my johnlock song today.
If you run from fear take caution There's nowhere to hide There is meaning in our every movement that keeps us alive Stop and look, it's all around us They live in my memory today The heaven of my heart is their place To earn your way in, you will always remain Time is an enemy and friend There is love here, it's all around us There is hope and it lives within us Time is love and love is the time it takes to know someone so well If you love me say it now, say it now, say it now If you love me say it now and mean it If you love me say it now and mean it If you love me say it now and mean it If you love me say it now and mean it! If you love me say it now, and mean it If you love me say it now, and mean it If you love me say it now and mean it If you love me say it now and mean it If you love me say it now and mean it If you love me say it now and mean it For you may never get another chance.   - Briana Marela, All Around Us

Quote
Ultimately, we are granted a small suggestion of a future, a rolling sequence in “The Final Problem” that shows John and Sherlock rebuilding their home, getting back to work, greeting friends, and caring for Rosie together.  This glimpse is a positive step on the path that can lead us to back to what matters. But for a series that purposely invokes the words of Oscar Wilde and is founded upon what is termed “the greatest love story never told,” and since it is a show that has the capacity to do justice to both, Sherlock needs to take the leap.  As John himself would implore, “Do you have the first idea how lucky you are?”  This production has the golden opportunity to give us—to give the characters—what no one ever has had the guts or the wisdom to do before. It is time for the Sherlock team to heed its own words— Do better. And get the hell on with it.

why johnlock will not be canon in this adaption, and further discussion on their intentions.
First, read this quote by Gatiss that no one wants to cite. “The whole notion, the idea of them possibly being a couple is inspired by the joke in the Billy Wilder film The Private Life of Sherlock Holmes, our favorite version. And we thought that was a good idea to run with that. In the 21st century it wouldn’t be an issue. People would just assume. Maybe we’ve done it too many times I don’t know. That’s all it is.  He explicitly says he is not interested. Doesn’t mean he couldn’t be. Doesn’t mean there’s anything wrong with it. I’m a gay man. This is not an issue. But we’ve explicitly said this is not going to happen – there is no game plan – no matter how much we lie about other things, that this show is going to culminate in Martin and Benedict going off into the sunset together. They are not going to do it. And if people want to write whatever they like and have a great time extrapolating that’s absolutely fine. But there is no hidden or exposed agenda. We’re not trying to fuck with people’s heads. Not trying to insult anybody or make any kind of issue out of it, there’s nothing there. It’s just our show and that’s what these characters are like. If people want to do that on websites absolutely fine. But there’s nothing there.” (SDCC2016)
Now, tell me how you can read that and pretend it (and other quotes just like it) don’t exist? This is the real explanation. They wanted to depict Holmes and Watson in a world where it was OKAY to be gay. Where it was just a thing that people could infer because it’s a world where being gay, or queer, or “whatever you are” is fully acceptable.
So they created that world. People (characters) assumed they were romantically involved. The stage, this modern world, was set up in a way that it could happen. A world where no one would begrudge them for it, lock them up, or make fun of them for it. A world where a gay relationship was as legitimate as any other.
But this is where it starts to hurt, right? As someone who wanted them to be involved romantically, and as someone who can admit that the writers never did.
They never had us in mind when it came to the sexuality of these characters. Never. To them it WAS always about the legend, about the adventures. But they did want to put them in a space where it was okay, on a world level, to be queer. Where it was believable.
But they never had intentions of a Johnlock end game. They likely didn’t expect how passionately people would fall in love with their relationship as a romantic one, how smart and sensitive everyone would be to the details, how psychotic a choice few would become. They didn’t realize that they were accidentally setting this show up as a huge queerbaiting mess in the end that would break hearts. They thought they were doing the right thing by queer people. Do you really think Gatiss would let gay people get shit on in his adaption? No! He was just ignorant.
They fucked up. They really fucked up.  How could they not know, right?
They lived in their own bubble and produced art we didn’t like from it.
They did what THEY loved because it was THEIR episode and maybe their last one. They thought they were pulling out all the stops by referencing all the films they loved, whipping out whole new characters and explanations, staying true to their own interpretation they probably had brewing since boyhood... I half-believe that Mary was such a big influence in this adaption because everyone involved liked Amanda and let their real life relationships guide the writing. It was their world... and they thought it was enough.
It wasn’t, for me. It probably wasn’t for you, either. The final season left fans with so many questions. Beyond the plot holes, sloppy writing and sets, and all the other things we can complain about, I wanted to believe that John and Sherlock would finally get the gay representation people have been pining for since the original canon was created. That the relationship we saw building before our eyes was more than a “it could be”. Well they didn’t, and it wasn’t. And maybe we’re supposed to be thankful that Moftiss at least set up a world where it could have been perfectly acceptable.
But like Sherlock said, “I know it’s fine”.
We already knew it was fine. It was the rest of the world that had to be convinced.
And were they convinced? Do “casuals” or “straight people” or whatever you want to call the “other” believe they could be gay, maybe that they should be gay, and that it was fine, if they were?
Maybe that’s the more important question.  And I’d like to know what anyone thinks about it.

Especially the last part.
I understand that people are enjoying themselves and that’s fine but also please think logically before spreading info as solid ‘evidence’ that something’s fucky as a) you now have a responsibility to protect vulnerable people from getting their hopes up and being crushed again and b) there are so many things that could easily have been edited by anyone to add to the ‘evidence’ pile. Also like of course the ATY twitter account will engage in this because they likely think it’s funny and it adds to their promo and more people will tune in to watch it like, c’mon. also the timeslot for the episode is only one hour. also they’re not going to air a secret episode that noone will know to watch if they don’t somehow promo it.

i think you’re more interested in conspiracy than love at this point.
y’all are acting like a junkie who needs a fix.
i wonder when the commitment to love turned into some sad obsession with the game itself. like moftiss, you’re falling prey to your own bubble of “this is how it must be and it’s mine!”... please... there is no 4th episode... my heart is cleaved in two. don’t make this “secret episode” as laughable an idea as the one we got last sunday.

To ask people to ‘put aside their doubts’ and believe one more time is not the right or fair thing to do here. Don’t do that. You’re actively engaging in promoting the hurt and grief of vulnerable lgbt people, whether you intend to or not. This situation does not need to become any more painful, and at this point is absolutely not about putting emotions aside to look at ‘hard facts’ that aren’t hard facts at all.

What was it that John couldn’t tell his therapist? What was in The Note to Sherlock? Why the entire conversation about Sherlocks love life if they would never revisit it?
Why…?

THERE IS NO S4E4
guys. there is no extra episode. it would be cost prohibitive, stupid, and frankly no one would go through the trouble of creating a fake TV show to hide its existence on next sunday’s tv roster. so please, STOP BREAKING MY HEART and the hearts of everyone else who is still so vulnerable after all of this. please...

it’s not okay.
this feeling is horrible. there’s nothing that can make it okay right now. and reading everyone’s differing and many times ignorant opinions is making it even worse. what a failure they have created.
