You don't know what's going on, only that you're getting increasingly upset over the late nights and early mornings. Your lover is acting as normal, giving you forehead kisses before you can fully wake up and cradling you in his arms when you're already falling asleep.

Quest is overworked. But tonight you're not having it. Enough is enough. He's surprised to see you awake, a happy smile blooming across his face and enough to make your anger wilt to nothing--almost nothing.

"We need to talk."

"About what?" he says, bags down and arms outstretched.

You don't cave in, arms folded. "Us. You're never home anymore, just working all day and sometimes even the weekend. I don't--," and your voice falters, "I don't understand."

His smile barely falters as he takes you in his arms, anyway squeezing you tight into his broad chest. "I'm so sorry."

"If you're sorry then come home... please."

"I miss you too," he whispers.

"So why? Did something happen?"

"No, angel, nothing happened."

He sighs before letting you go and delicately outlining your jaw with his fingers. Quest is warm, that damned smile on his face despite the situation.

"Then tell me why..."

He hesitates before speaking. "I've been saving up for a gift."

"But all I need is you, Quest!"

His grin widens and his fingers fall away. "...Just one more week, okay? I promise after that I won't ever do something to upset you like this again. If I knew how much this was hurting you I would've tried another way."

Quest means it. He stares at you earnestly and you know you've lost.

"...Fine."

A week passes and, just as promised, Quest is back on his normal schedule. In fact, he's taking two weeks off just to make up for lost time. It's bewildering all the plans he's made and you catch on that he had been planning for this the entire time. Sight-seeing, planetarium and aquarium dates, a peculiar couples dance class, and now a secluded table at a fancy restaurant you know needs reservations months in advance.

"You made it sound like it'd be one gift," you smile. "Thank you for this."

"It is."

As you push away your dessert plate, Quest stands up and walks over to your side of the booth. You think he's helping you down but he waves you to stay seated. He clears his throat.

"Ever since we've met, I feel like I become the best version of myself every single day."

You're stunned into silence at the declaration, but he doesn't give you a chance to recover. "And every day with you, I feel like is the happiest day of my life. You are everything to me, a real, true angel in my life. You are e-everything I love and..."

He trails off and exhales. Quest is nervous. "Sorry. I had a whole speech prepared but that's what it comes down to. I love you."

"I love you, too, Quest..."

And then he goes down on one knee. You gasp. "Are you... proposing to me?"

He just smiles again at that, affection shining in his eyes. "When you told me 'All I need is you'... I felt the same. All I need is you, too."

Quest's hand slides out a box from his pocket, opening to reveal a glittering ring with bits of your favorite color shining through.

"Please... will you marry me?"
