Floki’s Journey (3D Art)
Tumblr media
Floki’s Journey is a viking-themed RPG I developed with Prakash Chitty, Yvonne Campbell and Nicholas Ooi in Bachelor of Design (Games) at RMIT. I was responsible for the 3D art direction (The backgrounds for the combat scenes, the models from which were used in the exploration parts by other group members) and combat design. Maya was used for modelling.
Floki’s Journey has it’s own website here: http://flokisjourney.tumblr.com/

URBN NNJA (”Urban Ninja”)
URBN NNJA is a simple platformer game I made with Game Maker for my VCE Media project in year 12. It was the first time I had used Game Maker.
To make it stand out as a 2D platformer gameplay-wise, I simply made the movement speed extremely fast, but left the environments open and the obstacles sparse, so that it would be challenging and reflex-demanding without feeling cheap. If the player dies, they instantly restart the game from the beginning. The window size is deliberately fixed to 480x432 (Gameboy resolution multiplied by 3) to create the illusion of the game appearing substantial, though “in a small package”.
URBN NNJA may be downloaded here.

Bachelor of Design (Games) Exegesis
At the end of Bachelor of Design (Games), we were tasked with writing an exegesis - a thesis that outlined our creativity in terms of games.
In the first sentence, I stated that “The most prominent influence on my game design is hip-hop production and its producers.” My assessor, Christian McCrea, who was known for his extremely conservative assessment and feedback, said he found my exegesis “extremely exciting”, taking care to mention that he meant that “with no sarcasm”.

Random........swf
Random........swf is a Flash* animation I made when I was 12 years old.
It depicts a character resembling myself being horrified by a strange parallelist version of himself, and several surreal occurrences, such as a cow being stuck in a tree (below), all to the tune of “Spanish Flea” by Herb Alpert.
*Today known as Adobe Animate.
Random........swf may be downloaded here. It requires Flash Player Projector to open.

Floki’s Journey, Game Design
For our final project in Bachelor of Design Games, we devised a Viking-themed RPG that utilized the “Chain-Reaction Game”, a common flash game, (play an example at this link) as a means of determining outcomes in the same way that Puzzle Quest utilized match-three gameplay.
When our assessor, Christian McCrea, read these gameplay storyboards, he told us: “I thought your game looked like garbage until I read that.”

Learning to draw, 2014-15.
Most are from a Drawing Elective I did at uni. I had never drawn anything other than stick figures before then.
Shortly after it was over, I showed a my drawing folio to a friend in a Vietnamese restaurant, and a waitress passing by, unprompted, complimented it and asked to see more.

Untitled.swf
Untitled.swf is a brief point and click adventure game I made for part-time TAFE when I was 15 years old.
There are three “vignettes” possible by clicking on the markers, including a drag and drop minigame where one could place objects and houses throughout the scene.
I wanted to create a detailed animated scene that one could idly watch go by. The assignment it was made for specified that it had to reflect our personalities. I’m sure whatever interpretation you come up with will be correct.
Untitled.swf may be downloaded here. It requires Flash Player Projector to open.

The Journey of Music
The Journey of Music is a mockumentary on the history of music by Michael Akobi, who is a Melbourne-based comedy musician. I developed animated graphics and titles for it with Flash in 2014. The Journey of Music was accepted for consideration in the Sundance Movie Festival of 2014.
