A new REVOLUTION in payment solutions: Flutterwave
Tumblr media
Some say technology has negatively affected society, most say it has been of massive help to the human race. But it is no doubt that an important milestone in the era of technology, is the emergence of online payment solutions.
Money transactions have been going on for years, even as far back as the bible, as to when Abraham bought the famous cave of Machpelah in the land of the Hittite, for the burial site of his lovely wife Sarah (Genesis 14: 12-16). Over the years, these transactions have grown from different forms and modes, from the age-long trade by barter style, to notes, precious metals, cheques, and now the presently dominant digital payment.
While the western part of the world has accepted this digitization, some parts of Africa are yet to fully utilize this easy and efficient means of transaction, due to one reason or the other. Luckily for Africa, Flutterwave noticed this gap and have embarked on the journey of transforming the way payments are being sent and received.
So what or who is Flutterwave? Flutterwave is an API for payment platforms, they act as an aggregator for businesses that makes use of online payment services. The company was founded in 2016 by Iyinoluwa Aboyeji and Olugbenga Agboola with a team of top engineers, experienced ex-bankers, and seasoned entrepreneurs who worked tirelessly to make this a reality.
Flutterwave's introduction has been welcomed with a sigh of relief as payment services and merchants across Africa can integrate their API into their platforms, irrespective of the local currency. This makes it easier for local businesses to thrive, and also for foreign businesses to easily enter the African market. Top companies like Uber, Facebook, Jumia, flywire, Arik air, markethub and lots more are proud users of the Flutterwave payment API.

With 2 of their products currently in full operations, Flutterwave has led the Fintech space towards making a change in  Africa. Their products include, 1) Rave, which is a payment platform that allows business merchants to receive payments from cards, banks, and USSD globally.
2) GetBarter: This provides its users the ease of paying utility bills like airtime purchase, internet subscription, cable TV, electricity and many others. This platform also provides the transfer of money and the collection of loans.
Tumblr media
Since its inception in 2016, the Flutterwave API has processed over $2.6 billion worth of transactions in 100 million-plus transactions. In 2017, they raised $10 million in a Series A round of funding from top key investors, while their total investments were raised to $20 million in 2018 by more investors like global payments solution company Mastercard, Fintech Collective, CRE Ventures, and some others.
It is with full confidence that one can say that the progress journey for businesses in Africa has just gotten an extra boost for the years to come.
