I'm so pissed off that Disney cancelled the Acolyte 😭 like it was a great show and it was diverse in so many ways and it got cancelled because the star wars rabid fans couldn't handle a main cast of mostly women of color and Asian men in non-stereotypical roles. I'm so mad at Disney for not even bothering to defend the cast that got harassed over it. Like. They knew it would happen because it always happens, they can't even bother to defend the people that work for them. Sorry I just needed to vent..
Hey!!! I'm so sorry that this has been in here for nearly 20 days. We get so many asks a day and I don't always have the spoons to reply/post.
I'm also in the star trek fandom and I recently found out something that makes me think we should copy the star trek fandom. Back in the 90s when Deep Space 9 came out ALOT of the trekkies hated it. I didn't have lots of white men like previous versions of star trek and basically there was lots of antiblackness in the hatred for DS9. So DS9 fans started calling themselves Niners to differentiate themselves from the racist trekkies.
I think that Acolyte fans should start calling ourselves Acolytes. To celebrate and distinguish ourselves from racist star wars fans. Like I'm having a really hard time making myself watch skeleton crew because it looks so white you know? I might watch it but its honestly such a betrayal that so many people that claimed to love all things star wars only celebrate when white people are at the center of star wars.
I'm trying to keep up with the efforts for renewing the show but honestly I need more help on @starwarsfandomh8speopleofcolor if you want to help us out please come off anon and come talk to us about joining over there!!! I really really need a second season in my life!!!

Just watched Attack of the Clones and noticed more parallels between Anakin Skywalker and Osha Aniseya.
(Long post ahead, with visuals!)
In AotC, Anakin's mother dies before she can tell him, "I love you," and Anakin descends down a path of destruction out of grief.
Osha force-chokes her father figure before he can say, "I love you," because she grieves his betrayal and the loss of her family.

Now these are very different forms of paternal love by Shmi and Sol, but I LOVE comparing and contrasting Anakin and Osha because these situations lead to different outcomes and reactions. Yet at the core, they have these strong emotions they hold inside. In the simplest form, they have both lost parents and both lost their mothers.
Both Osha and Anakin are born with the help of the Force, we know this. Anakin is born completely of the Force. Osha and Mae are born through their mother's magic augmented by the Force. Anakin didn't care for his home planet. He was born into slavery and trauma. But his mother loved him dearly. He left because he dreamt of better. To be a Jedi and return to free her too.
Osha came from a family that loved and protected her, but she longed for individuality and to explore the galaxy outside of their coven walls. Anakin finds his mother in her last moments, and the dark side takes over him. He seeks revenge and kills the Tusken camp out of rage.
Osha learns the man who raised her killed her mother. Her silent anger is simmering. She doesn't lash out the exact same way, she's in shock.
Their reactions work for both of them. Anakin had his emotions building inside of him. In his feelings of inadequacy, he tells Padme that he is used to fixing everything, but this is the one time he failed. Anakin thinks he lost his mother due to his own weakness and believes more power will prevent it in the future. However, he is also ashamed of how his anger manifests and the act he committed in the camp. Padme tells him, "To be angry is to be human." (And as I am typing this RotS is on and Palpatine tells him the same, that seeking revenge on Dooku is natural despite his unease). But because of his training, Anakin says, "I'm a Jedi. I know, I'm better than this."
Osha has power, but she doesn't realize it. Striking out at Qimir catches her off guard. Killing her master startles her to shock. She's not seeking power. Osha seeks an understanding of herself and to be understood. Just like Anakin, Osha believes she failed as a Jedi for showing her anger. For not being able to accept loss. Qimir pushes her to confront his realization, and similar to Padme, he tells her, "This anger, this pain. This is who you are."
Anakin and Osha descend to darkness in similar ways. They feel and emote in similar ways. The Jedi are not successful in teaching them how to healthily deal with their feelings. So these experiences mirror, but they are still distinct examples of Jedi that are seduced to the dark side.
To me, Anakin Skywalker and Osha Aniseya are incredibly compelling characters that are only strengthened when analyzed together. End.

Why I love The Acolyte Episode 2
"I find it hard to watch series because they often start slowly, but The Acolyte has the perfect pace. It introduces the characters and gradually unravels the story, allowing us to immerse ourselves in it step by step. It's truly refreshing, and yes, its different from all the other SW projects, but that doesn’t mean it’s bad—instead, it maintains the essence of what SW is while telling this story in a fresh and unique way!
I really love the soundtrack; it's different but still feels so SW. The characters, especially Qimir, we know or suspect he is The Stranger, and even though we have that suspicion, when it’s revealed in episode 5, it’s a complete surprise due to how they tell his story and how he surprises us in that episode. I’ll talk about him next week.
Qimir is adorable, a bit clumsy, funny, and just likable; I really enjoy his character. Osha and Mae, good heavens!! It’s so easy to distinguish them! Their movements, their acting, their gestures!! Amandla is a fabulous actress!! I believe they are two completely different characters and how each one acts in certain situations. One thing I particularly appreciate is when Osha and Qimir meet!! That chemistry, that passion!! How Qimir recognizes that it’s Osha and not Mae, while Sol can’t tell them apart!
An underrated fight is between Sol and Mae; I find it fascinating!! He is just defending himself while Mae angrily attacks the man who killed her mother! I love seeing the interaction between Mae and Qimir; it's very funny, and they have a fantastic sibling-like chemistry, unlike the connection between Osha and Qimir, which is very DIFFERENT!! That’s acting!! This episode captivates me!"

The Acolyte being cancelled was cowardly and sad
because it was one of the best live action Star Wars shows; taking whole new characters and adding to this universe is not easy, but it did really well
and I'll also say, it did not need to be perfect for it to be renewed

wait wait wait, so we had: a gorgeously diverse, complicated story about the folly of the Jedi, set against the backdrop of truly fascinating Force witch lore and a potential deep-dive into the real fallout of suppressing emotion, complete with totally rad lightsaber fights, grayscale characters all around, and the coolest fucking helmet in the history of the franchise, all tucked into the world of Star Wars, which makes money simply by existing--and they cancelled it?? i am going to explode
