I've been on a train for a while today, and all I could think about was Hans Capon's hobbies and interests. Like, we see Henry enjoying alchemy, blacksmithing, scholarly pursuits, etc etc. Hans has his iconic archery and his shit poetry, but he's also seen reading a lot and enjoys hearing/sharing stories.

I think Hans loves storytelling as an art form. He'd get all excited getting to read the latest fables cosied up with some wine by the fire. He'd be a patron of theatre and write his own books and plays. He's so full of idealism and whimsy for the world and would love drama and gossip if he was in one of the bigger cities.

In an ideal world, I think he'd have a forest cabin retreat where he'd hunt by day and write by night, and Henry would plant a little herb garden and make his decoctions. Then they'd go to Prague together, and Hans would drag Henry to all the latest performances, and Henry would enter the tourny and admire the master blacksmith crafts.

Anyway...I just want these boys to have a nice time.

I had a KCD thought this morning about THEMES so I want to share!

There is a lot of compelling points for Hansry as the main ship for the games; the parallels with Istvan and Erik, Hans being into Henry regardless of pursuit, the shear amount of hours spent developing their friendship and Henrys dedication to Hans as friend and protector, the whole Lancelot/Galehaut comparison, etc, etc.

Something that Id like to discuss is the parallels of 'forbidden romances' and 'rebellion against reglious law'.

First, the forbidden romance runs in Henrys family so deep he keeps encountering new iterations of it! His mother and Radzig are the first example, forbidden by status. Radzig could not accept a peasant wife and bastard child into his house despite his own longing. So, they created a strange but happy enough family unit with the introduction of Martin and being in the protective shadow of the Kobyla house.

Next, Martin himself. He has a romance forbidden by religious divide. Sam and his mother were hidden away in a whole other city and still maintain the 'stain' of it to this day and Martin never got to know he had a biological son.

So, all of Henry's parents have been involved in forbidden romances for various reasons. Now, to me, it makes sense that Henry would also find himself in this position with Hans. A romance both forbidden by status AND religion. Him and Hans must now face the same challenges Henry's parents have done before if they wish to love and survive.

Except, things are changing in Bohemia and the Holy Roman Empire. Religious ideals are shifting, popes are splitting into different powerhouses and figures like Hus are starting to ask questions.

Henry has never been one to follow the rules or settle when there's a challenge. Hans is an idealist with enough recklessness to see them realised or die trying.

Will they ever be able to have a public relationship? No. But is it more interesting for a rebellious and forbidden love to happen during a great tide of change? Yes, very much so.

Marking my return with something special. This started out as a kind of brain rot with thoughts of Henry’s hand beneath Hans’ back pulling him closer. It was initially going to be an in bed piece but then REM’s Nightswimming came on Spotify and I knew what I had to do.
