4. Vertical tooth fracture: The tooth crack travels through the entire length of tooth and root and is often impossible to save. The tooth usually becomes painful and the fracture line might also result in a split tooth if not treated promptly.

Top 10 Dental Tips during traveling or vacation

Maintaining a good dental and oral care while traveling is much more than packing your toothbrush and toothpaste. While you take care of your overall health, here is the to-do list for the oral health before you hit your next vacation.

1. Get a dental check-up done before you leave:- A simple tooth cavity could have been just cured in time if you visit the dentist before you start your vacation, or it might be too late when you return back and the simple cavity had progressed into a deep one which then required a RCT. A stich in time saves nine !

2. Pack Properly:- The packing bag should have enough space for air circulation and must be contamination-free. Carry an extra toothbrush, tongue cleaner, tissues and a small bottle of mouthwash. A reel of floss and an interdental brush (substituting toothpicks) should also be there.

3. Keep it dry:- Let your toothbrush and tongue cleaner dry before you pack them. The moisture helps in retaining the bacteria.

4. Did you run out of toothpaste? :- Have you forgotten your toothpaste or ran out of it and cannot find one while traveling? Don’t let it stop from simply brushing your teeth with plain water.

5. Try disposable toothbrushes:- You would not need to worry about keeping them clean and dry if you have a supply of disposable toothbrushes while traveling.

6. Did you forget to carry a toothbrush? :- Rinsing vigorously with water to wash away the stuck food particles help in keeping your mouth clean. Toothpaste applied on a finger tip or clean cloth can also help.

Smokeless/Snuff/Chewing Tobacco & Smoking

Wearing down of teeth: Chewing tobacco leaves which have particles are abrasive to teeth. While chewing they mixes with saliva and form an abrasive paste is created that wears down the enamel of teeth over time. Tooth sensitivity to hot and cold increases due to erosion of enamel from the grit created by chewing tobacco leading to wearing down of teeth.

Oral Cancer: Smokeless tobacco (chewing/snuffing) causes cancers of the tongue, mouth, lip and pancreas. Like cigarettes, they increase the chances of oral cancer as it contains more than 28 cancer-inducing chemicals. Risk for cancer of the oesophagus, throat, colon and bladder also increases because the toxins in the tobacco when mixed with saliva can be swallowed.

10 Most Common Tooth Related/Dental Problems and its best Solutions

Nowadays, Tooth is one of the most caring organ that every one should to keep clean and healthy. If you have any problem related to tooth, you will suffer dental problem and if you avoid these problems then it become bigger and harm your tooth lifetime. So, never avoid the tooth problems.

In this blog, I am going to discuss some most common tooth problems and its best solutions.

1. Stained teeth:- Certain food, tobacco smoking, medicines or trauma to teeth cause staining or deposition of debris of their surface or discoloration of teeth. Failing to maintain a proper oral hygiene also adds to the problem.

Solution:- The tooth can be left as it is if it’s symptomless, but if it creates pain and swelling, surgical removal of the impacted tooth is important.

Solutions:- Twice brushing of teeth everyday and regular cleaning and polishing of teeth at a dental clinic in every 3 months to clean the deposits is crucial. Sometimes bleaching is also done to make teeth whiter.

3. Cavities/Caries:- The little black spots or holes that appear on the tooth surface are actually cavities or caries which further progress and cause tooth decay. They are formed when sticky food particles adhere to the tooth surface making home for bacteria that release acid to form cavities.

Solution: Over the counter painkiller medications can be given for symptomatic relief and proper diagnosis & treatment by a dentist is needed to cure the problem. No OTC medication can completely cure a dental related problem without getting it actually treated by a doctor.

4. Broken/Chipped Tooth:- Any trauma to the tooth surface causes chipping of enamel or more severely, an exposed pulpal chamber or a fractured tooth.

Solution: Rinsing the mouth after every meal, twice brushing of teeth, using fluoridated toothpaste are some of the ways to prevent tooth decay. Regular visit to a dentist for checkup helps in early detection of caries preventing further progress and pain. Pit & fissure sealants can also be applied as suggested by the dentist to prevent onset of caries.

5. Impacted Third Molar/ Wisdom Tooth:- Painful eruption od the wisdom tooth is a very common problem occurring in late teens or early twenties. Sometimes the tooth never comes out because it gets obstructed by the bone or soft tissue. It is most frequently accompanied by painful and swelled gums overlying the tooth surface.
