For those of us who can’t be on the lines with them in Baltimore, this is extremely important. We have to hit them in their pockets, even if it’s the smallest fraction of their sales. It seems like such a small thing and it is somehow always difficult to come between people in their food (see: Chick Fil-A), but it matters, These people chose to donate some of their goods. They chose that donation to go to an institution that beat the shit out of a man until his spine broke. They chose not to donate these goods to hungry children. Hit them where it hurts, even if it’s just a light tap. Keep doing it until it’s hard to ignore. I will not be stepping foot in Whole Foods and Five Guys again.

All Baltimore City public schools were closed on Tuesday in response to violent protests breaking out across the city in response to Freddie Gray’s death. About 84 percent of students in city’s public schools receive free or reduced-price lunches, according to the school district’s website. The closings mean that these students were unable to access these lunches, and churches and community centers have been scrambling to fill the gap.
But Whole Foods and Five Guys provided free food for National Guard soldiers rather than thousands of high-need children.

HAPPENENING NOW (4/28/15): The streets of Baltimore are under siege… by local police. I feel like I’m back in Ferguson 2014. Authorities call for an illegal curfew and martial law. Protesters peacefully demonstrate against it. Police fire tear gas and rubber bullets, unprovoked, into the crowd. #staywoke #farfromover
