I really love the idea of Pomni being the final boss and I really just wanted to pay homage to @sm-baby ‘s their wonderful carnival au! I tried to make her seem a bit scarier by turning her jester hat into a pair of horns but I’m not sure if the design entirely went through. Anyway! GOD isn't it delicious how Jax and P!Gangle would use the same excuse for their awful behavior (partly)

They can't feel physical pain in the digital realm, and even if they were disfigured in any way during an adveture Caine would just reset them. Jas has no problem pushing or tripping people, manhandling them, shoving them in the line of fire precisely because of this... and also because he's a dickhead. The fact that no permanent harm is being done would be a perfectly passable excuse on his end. As for the general terrorizing, well, he's not trying very hard to convince anyone he isn't a bad guy because of his actions, but look, they're all fine at the end of the day, right? Stop whining about it. Obviously everyone's just too sensitive and can't take a joke.

Puppeteer Gangle is not putting people's digital bodies in harm's way at all (if she can help it). Her form of control is entirely non-physical and thus she can deny the negative effects all she pleases; the damage she's doing is invisible, so it might as well not be there. And if it's there, it's not that bad. And if it's bad, you'll get used to it. Why not go back under if it's such a bother? She always welcomes you with open ribbons.

Outwardly you won't look any different even with time, there's no palpable deterioration save for that of your mind and senses, so she doesn't view it as torture. It might be a little unpleasant, sure, but she has her reasons. She's not being sadistic. Furthermore she can even argue that the subconsciousness of possession is a good thing and keeps them all safe, supported by the example of a more desperate victim like Ragatha. Though in the end, we all know what Gangle really cares about. It's building her dollhouse.

I can't help but imagine that Jax would eventually develop codependency for Gangle if nothing changes. Like, at some point, he just isn't able to will himself to do anything, so asks (or demands maybe) that Gangle take the ranges. Probably with a request for him to be a bit more aware of what's going on.

I was gonna draw my two cents on this, but for now...

Had the first bout of their parasite-host relationship before Ragatha's indoctrination gone on just a liiittle longer. A week or two more, let's say. I can see him having reluctantly begged her to put him under and help him get some fucking sleep for once (and then refused to mention it ever again).

Like can you imagine how maddening that time must've been for him. Half of every day spent locked in a borderline empty room, feeling like shit but never being able to go unconscious. Stuck thinking, stuck experiencing symptoms, stuck with his rage and frustration. (No wonder he tore up her furniture.) He can choose to move around and not feel right, or he can lie still staring at the ceiling with a chronic headache and malaise buzzing right under his skin.

So next time she gets back he makes a point of "apologizing" to her (he doesn't mean a damn word, but with how genuinely upset he sounds one would almost believe him) for whatever she might still be punishing him for and grabs her by the shoulders as he swallows back his pride and finally forces out a request that makes him feel so dirty in that moment yet nearly weeps with relief when she obliges and the manipulative ribbons slide into place and as soon as she has him possessed he's out like a light
