Chapter 1: Blood Stains
Tumblr media
The obsidian walls of the throne room were blood-stained.
A body laid limp on the ground as a deep sadistic voice spoke, “I warned you, you old fool. I told you that I would be your demise if you refused me. But you refused to heed my warning. Now you pay the price. Pity, you and I could have ruled the universe together.” The limp body suddenly raised his head, revealing my grandfather, Hades.
He spoke with a raspy yet strong voice, “I would have never helped you. We both know that you’d have killed me anyways. Nothing would ever satisfy your hunger for control.”
The voice let out a deep chuckle and continued to speak, “Too bad you won’t be able to protect your grandchildren. They will be great additions to my army. All I need is your power. GIVE IT TO ME!”
“Chan eil eagal orm mo bheatha a thoirt seachad. Tha feum agam air laoch gus mo sholas a thoirt. Karma Nox!”
“NO! What did you do?!?!” With his last breath, Hades smiled one last time before he faded into dust.
I shot up in the dark bedroom with panicked breaths.
My grandfather’s last words still haunted my mind, I’m not afraid to give my life. I need a hero to take my light. The worst part about the dream was that it felt so real, I could have sworn that it was a vision. My thoughts suddenly halted as the alarm of escaped demons filled my ears. My nerves went on edge when a magical list with demon names appeared in front of me. Sigh… Damn chaotic demons won’t stop escaping Nox’ia. Don’t they know by now that Chaos cannot help them?
Getting up off my canopy made of broken spirituales lignum vines, I snapped my fingers, finding myself in leather armor tooled with demonic symbols and demon iron over the top to protect vital areas. Throwing my door open, I grab my quiver from the wall and strapped it to my waist while I strung up my bow. As I made my way to the balcony, I called out, “Plagg! Work!”
A loud screech came from above. Landing in front of me was Plagg, my father’s scathian. Resting my hand under his jaw, I stared into his midnight blue eyes and whispered, “Ní mór dúinn obair a dhéanamh.” Screeching happily, he turned around toward the edge of the balcony. I hopped onto his back, and we drove off, heading to one of the gates to Statera.  As we approached the gate, I watched Adrian, my twin brother, waving and pointing at the open portal. I flew past him into the portal, off to find 13 chaotic prison escapees.
Once we reached Statera, I was able to spot seven of the demons right off the bat. They were making pathetic attempts to hide among the trees. Can’t you at least make my job interesting? Drawing my bow, I aimed at one of the hiding chaotic demon and whispered, “Crìonadh airson a 'bheatha.” Releasing the string, a single arrow flew through all seven demons that I saw, then returned to my hand. I began to walk deeper into the woods to search for the rest of the prisoners.
Within a matter of minutes, I was able to locate and dispose of all the demons. All but one. Zelihr has always loved his games of hide and seek, especially ones where I’m chasing him. He takes every escape opportunity to make the game challenging for me, but he always makes one mistake. He never learns not to leave a trail for me to follow. A loud feminine scream echoes from my right, catching my attention. I head in the direction where the scream had came from, hoping that Zelhir didn’t start satisfying his bloodthirsty hunger. In no time, I found myself in front of a wooden house with shattered windows shattered. The smell of fresh blood rushed into my nose. Damn it. He got his hands on another magician. Dismounting Plagg, I tell him to, “Cumaibh faire airson Zelhir.” Keep watch for Zelhir.
I kicked the wooden door open, causing the hinges to break off and leave cracks in the wall. The sight of Selene Rosewood laying in a pool of her own blood met my sight. Her eyes were wide with fear. Poor girl never stood a chance against an ancient demon. As I knelt down next to her, blood stained my armor. Gently closing her eyes, I watched as her soul left her body. Bowing my head to her, I met her spirit’s gaze, whispering, “I’m sorry I wasn’t fast enough to save you from him. You are free to meet my brother at the gate of Nox’ia. He will take you to paradise.” With a smile, she nodded and mouthed thank you before fading away.
Standing up, I noticed a trail of black blood drops leaving Selene’s body. I guess she managed to scrape him up before she lost the impossible fight. My eyes followed the blood trail, leading to a slightly cracked closet. I crept closer to the closet doors, and Zelhir suddenly flew out of the cabin. Bolting out the door after him, I heard his screech echo as my scathian tackled Zelhir down. My claws and fangs lengthened as I lifted his bloody face.
Gripping his face with my sharp nails, I scolded, “Zelhir, you belong in the deepest pits of hell for what you have done today! That girl was innocent and you killed her without reason. Pasxihasael and Kimuzhar will be ecstatic to have you for a permanent stay!” My eyes flashed a blood red as I looked deeper into his soul. “Karma, please spare me. Chaos made me do it,” he begged, hoping to take advantage of my magician side. With a sadistic dark laugh, I pulled him up, face to face with me.
“I have looked in your soul. I know you are nothing more than a selfish, chaotic beast who deserves to die at the hands of Hades. For the crimes you have commited today, I hereby sentence your soul to an eternity of suffering in the fires where Cerberus’ pups uses rebellious demons such as yourself for target practice!” A growl unexpectedly came from my throat as I finished stating his punishment that he would suffer until the end of days.
Drawing my bow, I aimed at his head, took a deep breath, and released my hand. His physical body collapsed, leaving only his anima standing. I watched as chains wrapped his soul. A fiery pit appeared beneath him, and the chains dragged him down as the fire portal vanished. I looked at plagg, who was wagging his tail, and said, “Dìnnear deiseil.” Dinner’s ready. I silently watched him happily devour Zelhir’s remains.
A loud foul-mouthed voice came from the cabin behind me. I turned around to see where the voice was coming from, but there was no one to be seen. I must be going crazy. Sigh... I guess I better start cleaning up this mess. Standing up, I entered the cabin and started to remove the blood. The voice started to curse even louder as I lifted Selene’s limp body. Okay, that voice is definitely not my imagination. Where the hell is that coming from? I gently placed Selene down in a rocking chair and began to look around the house for the origin of the voice.
After several minutes of searching, I went back to Selene’s body to take her outside to be buried. Just as I was about to walk out the front door, I heard the voice coming from the closet. Did Zelhir not go back to Nox’ia? I placed Selene back down and opened it claws ready to grab a fast demon. Instead, a magical parchment smacked me right in the face.
Letting out an annoyed groan, I said, “What the hell?!?!”
I took a good look at the parchment and noticed that it was a provisional acceptance letter for the Crystal River Academy of Magic. Oh crap. Time to go. Turning around to bolt for the gate of Nox’ia, I found myself face to face with a black-haired male with a disapproving look on his face. Before I could react, blackness consumed my eyesight. My heart plunged when I heard Plaggs cry for my help. I tried to mentally comfort Plaggs, but I could feel his panic that came on when they took me away. I’m so sorry, Plaggs. I forgot about the Druids.
***
When the blackness finally left, I found myself sitting in a solitary prison in a dungeon.
There was a celtic bind symbol on the ground, restricting every kind of magic that is known. Frustrated, I stood up off the floor, walked to the  door with a small barred window, and stared through the bars, looking for a tool to help me escape. I couldn't see anything in proximity of the door, but I did notice that the dungeon appeared to be gentle and quiet compared to the dungeons of Nox’ia. Above me, I could hear fast footsteps piling on top of itself. Is this a school dungeon? Looking down right on front of the door, I spotted my quiver. Heh. Can't believe I didn't check there first. Before I could reach for an arrow, loud steps echoed from the right. I backed up from the door, and listened closer.
Three pairs of footsteps approached the prison door. I saw the black-haired man through the bars, but I couldn't see the other two. I heard the door click. Before I could bolt out, a female redhead entered through and closed the door behind her. Damn! After a moment of silence, she spoke, “I'm Zilla. You are?”
I didn't answer her.
