nge episode 1 - summary

LIGHT SPOILERS

the premise of nge is the main character, shinji ikari, heads to tokyo-3 in the year 2015, after he was called by his father, who needed him. shinjis dad, gendo ikari, is the head of a branch of the united nations called NERV, created after the second impact to control and combat against the angels. after being picked up by the tactical field commanders of NERV, misato katsuragi, shinji heads to the headquarters of NERV. while he is there, an angel begins to attack the city. it is now when gendo orders shinji to get into eva-01 to pilot it and fight against the angel. shinji refuses, so gendo requests the pilot of unit-00, rei ayanami, to be brought out. shinji sees the terrible shape she is in from previous battles, and reluctantly agrees to pilot unit-01.
