The White Desert: Egypt Loses an Emeral: The Natural Beauty
Nestled in the extensive landscapes of the Western Desert of Egypt rests one of Egypt’s most spectacular manifestations of landscape marvel- the White Desert or Sahara el Beyda. Farafra oasis lies approximately 45 km to the north of the Farafra depression and is a mixture of white chalk impressive rocks and boundless sand dunes which guarantees dreamlike atmosphere. The White Desert is famous with white, powdered limestone, which has been carved by time and weather into unusual shapes similar to mushrooms, animals and any other shapes that come to artist’s mind. These are formation of natural sculptures which are fabulous to behold particularly when that memorable moment of the sun-setting or rising and the sharp early-morning shadows over the desert give it a nice hue. A visit to the White Desert is, undoubtedly, a spiritual experience and, at the same time, it is adventurous. Out here, travelers get to experience the fascination of a real live desert through a walking desert tour or an off-road tour in a 4-by-four vehicle. For those who want even more extreme experience, the night stay in the tent in the middle of the desert is incredible chance to listen to silence and despair. ) the White Desert is also situated close to the Farafra Oasis, which has hot springs and a friendly population. Tourists can also avail the cultural sites, enjoy the local cuisine and understand history of the oasis. For anyone with even a passing interest in nature, photography or adventure, the White Desert will provide quite unlike any location found within Egypt, which should not be underestimated in terms of having something to offer anyone interested in the country.
