i want to know everything that makes you happy. i want to watch your eyes light up and your lips curl into a smile as you discuss your favourite things. i want to spend hours listening to you as you talk passionately about the things you love the most

Not all toxic people are cruel and uncaring. Some of them love us dearly. Many of them have good intentions. Most are toxic to our being simply because their needs and way of existing in the world force us to compromise ourselves and our happiness. They aren’t inherently bad people, but they aren’t the right people for us. And as hard as it is, we have to let them go. Life is hard enough without being around people who bring you down, and as much as you care, you can’t destroy yourself for the sake of someone else. You have to make your wellbeing a priority. Whether that means breaking up with someone you care about, loving a family member from a distance, letting go of a friend, or removing yourself from a situation that feels painful — you have every right to leave and create a safer space for yourself.

How do we forgive our Fathers? Maybe in a dream Do we forgive our Fathers for leaving us too often? Or forever when we were little? Maybe for scaring us with unexpected rage Or making us nervous Because there never seemed to be any rage there at all. Do we forgive our Fathers for marrying or not marrying our Mothers? For Divorcing or not divorcing our Mothers? And shall we forgive them for their excesses of warmth or coldness? Shall we forgive them for pushing or leaning For shutting doors For speaking through walls Or never speaking Or never being silent? Do we forgive our Fathers in our age or in theirs Or in their deaths Saying it to them or not saying it? If we forgive our Fathers what is left?
