FMP 250 Word Reflection
Making this film has been a long journey that started in summer of 2022 and is still continuing to this day. It has been my most ambitious effort at making a film yet as I embraced further the role of a director and came into contact with a lot of people outside the university for voice acting, music and the poster. This production has been a first for a lot of things for me, including stop motion with puppets. I was incredibly nervous at first and my animation was a bit clunky but over the course of a month and a half, I have observed a slight improvement over my puppet animation skills. It has been an incredibly demanding production so far where I had to do things as fast as possible with no time left to procrastinate or overthink. That way I managed to learn a lot in a very short amount of time, work with a broad range of different materials (plaster, small metals, copper, porcelain) and really hone in my communication skills with the people that have been offering help. I hope that I will be able to apply these skills again in the short term future

Music by Jack Coombes and Theodora Angelidou. Some scenes need to be better composited in and the last scenes with the green screen will use footage of clouds treated with painted film.

This is my festival pack data sheet so far. The publicity images are missing because I haven't colour graded or composited my film properly yet.

This is what I got so far for the submission version of the portfolio. I will keep adding things to it as I go along so for the 19th of May it's a complete portfolio that is ready for print

These are two different versions of the business card. I have carved the design on linoleum so the final version will be a more graphic linocut print.

This is the last shot from the bathroom, after Paulie hears the voices of his mum being angry at him. I will be compositing a dark blurry wall when Paulie runs at the edge of the set to imply that he is running out the door of the bathroom and runs into the dancefloor. I will be following this post with a test I did of the same shot where I use a newly discovered effect.
I also want to note that this shot was originally much slower in the animatic and Paulie was just walking slowly towards the door however I thought I could make it more dynamic by making him run away and have the camera follow him. I was really pleased with how natural it felt to animate this scene as when I first started shooting in the beginning of last week it felt very challenging to be animating a puppet and the camera at the same time (this is my first time animating puppets too) but I feel like I have gotten better and I can start shooting the more challenging scenes now.

I know I haven't posted in ages but I have been really busy animating! This week I finished animating all of the bathroom scene and I am moving on to the club. This still was captured using Tilt Focus lens. I have found myself switching between different type of lenses all the time (I avoid using zoom lens and I instead opt for a selection of standard 3 - A Telephoto 70-100mm lens, an 85mm one and a 30mm one. Sometimes I also have a fourth option of a more special one if I'm aiming for something very stylistic such as 8mm fish eye or probe lens)
