Letter to a stranger
I want someone to tell me the future and say that I made a good life and choices for myself. I want to know if I am the person that I was put here to be. I want someone to tell me if I really truly make their life better or worse. I want people to be honest and never knew what lying is.

3-Card Prompt
Narrative Share: 3-card Prompt story
A Neuroscientist named Dr.Larry Fredrickson is an eighty-five year old who wears thick black rimmed glasses and smells like old-fashioned lotion. Dr.Fredrickson works in a lab in a secret location that nobody but the government and of course his mother know about. All I know is that what he is working on is classified information which consists the use of microscopes; because his work can not be seen by the naked eye. Dr.fredrickson is creating an advanced brain model that will show his discovery of what causes brain flatulence aka brain farts. He has collected data and has done many tests. He soon realizes that he needs to report his discovery to the news so that the U.S. should know about his epiphany, He believes he has found what will cure the unwanted condition. Although his job is sophisticated and professional; He is not like any ordinary Doctor, he is comfortable in an environment where he works in an unconcealed, yet working for the government is in fact a confidential. when he is coming up with new research and plans he likes to be free of clothing to help get the brain juices flowing. His team of other neuroscientists also are all naked and think this is completely normal. When the president comes to see the new ideas and theories he walks in to the naked scientists and oddly joins the nakedness and surprisingly finds it quite normal too. On Dr. Fredrickson's day off he takes pleasure of waking up at six in the morning to travel to Walmart. When he arrives Dr.Larry Fredrickson strolls down every single aisle in the store just to make sure he doesn’t miss anything . When he’s alone he’s normally buying stuff that he doesn’t need and also buys a lot of cookies, M&Ms, old people clothes. his favorite store is Walmart because it has everything a man could need in one store. A man at his age doesn’t need much but being a neuroscientist he needs to have sugar and low prices clothes; such as plaid shirts and khakis and a place that is opened 24/7.

Reflection
I love my composition class, My teacher Mrs.Allegra made it amazing and fun! Out of all my teachers i had this semester I would have to say that she was my favorite. I can sense that she truly cares for her students and is willing to stay around and help us not lose our minds. She helped me personally become a better writer and helped me better understand where my weaknesses are and why I was doing poorly on some areas when I was in high school, but now after taking her class and understanding and using her tools I am going to use them throughout my college experience and outside college as well.

“The Third Life of Richard Miles”
This article was about a man named Richard Miles who was wrongly imprisoned for a dozen years. In 2012 Miles was paid 1.2 million from the government because of the falsely imprisonment. He now is a CEO of a company but it took a lot of hard work for him to get there with his known background. Miles has and will face many obstacles in his life but he has the support of his family to keep him strong and moving forward.
The overall article inspired me and helped me realize that we have our roller coaster life but it is just to see if we can survive. Life is a test and all we gotta do is keep moving forward and live the way we are meant to be. I also think that the police officers did not do their job correctly and should have done more investigating instead of arresting with no evidence. I am also extremely proud of Miles that he did not let prison tear him down but made him stronger. I may have not gone to prison but my biological dad has been in and out and it really does change who they are without meaning to.

Assimilation is not that Bad...
Assimilation is not that Bad
Cultural tradition in the Latino community is decreasing generation after generation; values, behavior and language are fading away. Research shows that Latino families that children that were sculpted by their native culture are now experiencing the American culture and many diverse people who don’t practice their religion and other long-established customs that were passed down from generation to generation. In order to achieve lasting success in this country, it is important for the Latino community to embrace American values, opportunities and while preserving their native language.
We have chosen to come to a new country and must embrace the values such as individualism and freedom of religion, so that we can be accepted into the American culture. César Vargas is a Latino who moved to America with his mom to have a better life and growing up with challenges. Vargas comments that Latinos have made it through the challenge of the history of assimilation “most of all, it shows the hardships that many Latinos continue to see in their everyday lives as we struggle to "fit" in to a society which, while increasingly accepting, still presents its difficulties plainly.” (Vargas) Learning the culture is not going to easy it's going to be challenging since there is a lot more to think about for children who are moving to a new country with different and diverse communities. We have to understand and be open-minded to the new generation and choose what will be the good path to go through.
Peer influence, can impact that the Latino community would be torn in two because they see their peers are experiencing different situations and are part of many diverse communities that the Latino people want to experience the same and want to discover and explore the opportunities. Andrew Solomon explained how kids don't share the same minority and other statuses, one of his novel Far from the Tree: Horizontal Identity. Andrew Solomon uses the term “horizontal identities,” to encompass all the “recessive genes, random mutations, prenatal influences or values and preferences that a child does not share with his progenitors.” (Solomon). Solomon expressed how the children that grow up and experience different things that the parents did not experience does not mean that they should not embrace the way of life that they come to know and the generation they grew up in. He also writes about his own experience how he wish he was accepted and wish he was when he was younger, “I wish I'd been accepted sooner and better. When I was younger, not being accepted made me enraged, but now, I am not inclined to dismantle my history.”. Kids who are coming from all over to America and learning the American customs and coming to like them and wanting to be a part of the culture and still be accepted by their parents.
Language the biggest issue in terms of identity is adherence to Spanish language. It is important to embrace English open in public. Richard Rodriguez, an American writer, who is known for his novel “Hunger of Memory” has experienced the challenges of being a Mexican-American and being bilingual. A quote from his novel expresses his point of view of having both Spanish and English,  “A family member would say something to me and I would feel myself specially recognized. My parents would say something to me and I would feel embraced by the sounds of their words” (Rodriguez). Rodriguez expresses how speaking Spanish to his family is familiar and is comfortable. He speaks in English to others because that’s what is familiar with the non-native Spanish speakers. Rodriguez comments that “the(Rodriguez), he is stating that knowing multiple languages separates us from the “gringo society” and give us uniqueness but also keeps us from assimilation. Though non Spanish speaking people cannot translate or understand someone's’ language does not mean that they should discontinue their two cultures that they adopted.
Some may say that you cannot forget where you come from and that bilingualism is a good thing, studies have shown that people who are bilingual are smarter. The studies have shown that “It can have a profound effect on your brain, improving cognitive skills not related to language and even shielding against dementia in old age.”(Bhattacharjee). Researchers found that an bilingual persons mind is more active and tend to translate words even when speaking in one language at the moment. Scientists have studied that bilingualism “...forces the brain to resolve internal conflict, giving the mind a workout that strengthens its cognitive muscles.”(Bhattacharjee). Though knowing two or more languages will produce more opportunities for people.
I’m not saying that we should forget the culture but that - in order to succeed in the U.S. - we must embrace and adopt American culture. Adopting the Larger American culture can produce more opportunities because of the two or more cultures that we could be a part of. America now want more bilingual and diverse people who can more than an average American can. Bilingual people tend to be smarter, proven in studies by scientists which is an amazing advantage but mastery of English is an essential part of bilingualism.
In conclusion I am both Latino and American. I was raised in a catholic family and home, though growing up I began to question who I was and who I wanted to be. This caused a lot of disagreement arguments with my family which is never fun to deal with. I define myself as Mexican-American, because I grew up with both American and “Mexican” traditions. I have experienced the many experiences and can connect to the authors of the stories I found because I am torn between following my Latino traditions or adapting to the American traditions. Though my family is old-fashioned they are slowly learning how to accept the new changes generation after generation.

Fears of college and general..
I cope with fear is by either pushing myself or not doing it at all at that very moment, then soon regretting being terrified to do something. I was excited by anxious to come to college because I knew it was a huge transition but didn’t know how it would work. Now that I’ve been in school for a couple days longer than a month, I notice the things that I need to adjust so I can have a painless time at college. Although I seem like it’s no big deal transitioning I do have some fears still about college. My greatest fear about college is not passing my classes with an A+ or a high passing B. My degree requires me to have straight A’s or high B’s to be eligible to pass to the next step for the nursing program because it is a competitive major, which worries me because it is a lot of pressure and I will be a busy bee, but I plan to get more involved if I need help on a subject or even when I just want practice. I also want to take good notes and learn from my EDUC class that will make my college experience painless as possible for myself

Letter from my Father..
Dear Mija,
I regret deeply that I was hungover the day you were born. I’m ashamed of myself for not being in your life to teach you the things I experienced and never wanted you to ever go through. I’m apologize for moving on and forgetting about you, and also never making an effort. I’m sorry for not showing up to your school events starting when you were young. I’m sorry that I turned into drugs and alcohol, then becoming a monster because of it. I know you ran away from me and my problems and didn’t want to accept my hugging arms afterwards. I’m sorry that I gained your trust, then destroying that same bridge of connection and love over and over again when all you did was give me unconditional love. I regret not keeping my promise to you and myself to stay sober and help myself. I’m sorry that I talk as I will keep your brothers and family away from you when you tell me you had enough of me and my problems. I know that I treated you the way your grandfather treated me even though I swore to myself that I was not going to be the way he was to me and with that up bringing I tended to drag everybody down with me but you and whoever is around and blamed them for the way that I let myself turn out to be. I know that I was not the Father, shoulder, and bodyguard that you wanted and deserved. I wish that I could make it up to you, but I cant. I understand that I have negatively effected your life Emotionally since you were young, I want you to know that was never my intention. I know that you will be something great and will be successful because of your mother.
Sincerely,
John Z.

My Name...
I was born and raised with the last name Zuniga. I never had the interest into finding the meaning of my last name or the origin, so I moved forward in life and always writing the last name that I have grown to know and present myself with. My dad is the type of person to praise the Zuniga last name, as where I am opposite by saying “It’s just a name to put on a paper and that i will end up not having when i get married. I recently found out that my last name originates’’ from a native American background and how many great benefits and opportunities can come from being Native. My biological father found out that he is 65% native, I have not yet tested for my percentage. I can not wait till i do and learn about my history and ancestors before me.
