Since I have multiple iterations of almost everything for the future casting project, I decided to make a folder in my google drive to organize and find each of the documents a bit better.

framing story + message: iteration no. 1
It’s 333 years into the future, in the city of Baku, located in and around the ruins of present day New York City. In the year -1 the leaders of Earth’s nations were at war with one another, themselves, and the people of their nations. Corruption plagued the governments of the world’s nations and the accumulation of decades of wrongdoings resulted in year zero’s catastrophe. Nearly every major city in the world was reduced to ruins and rubble, along with the citizen’s mental states. Due to the mass displacement of humanity the world was in chaos for a time, then, the people learned to live. With considerably less technology and networks than before the catastrophe, most people adapted to live off the land in the countrysides of America, however, some learned to live amongst the ruins of former cities, and use said city’s resources to trade and introduce back into the countrysides in peace. This is where we come to the city of Baku, and the tribe of people living there, nicknamed ‘scavs’ by the countrysiders. The scavs of Baku roam the city, endlessly looking for new technologies and objects to trade with the countrysiders surrounding Baku. Due to the abnormal conditions of Baku and the perpetual fog that has settled over the city, the scavs use an oculus to see, a kind of present day glass or goggle that was developed so the scavs could alter their vision to ‘see’ through the fog by sensing energies from their surroundings, the oculus using those energies to create a visible map of the environment. The message behind this is because of the universal mindset of capitalism and consumerism in western civilization, people are now only worth how much they can work and items are only worth anything if they can be used in some way by people. This creates an attitude that everything is replaceable, as we throw out objects when they break or have no use or no longer communicate with people that serve no purpose anymore. This attitude is no way to live and results in various health issues throughout the population whether it be mental or physical, slowly resulting in global tension and social ruin.

breakup letter to my phone
Dear Phone,
I know you aren’t on my personal inventory or related to my framing story but this seems very relevant to me at the moment. We spend way too much time together, and I think we need some time apart. I am on you all the time, on various social medias and you really distract me from doing things that actually matter. Spending all this time on social media is negatively affecting my mental health and although you're not the sole cause of its rapid decline this semester, I can’t help but feel like I’d be slightly better without you.
You make me too connected and so very disconnected all at once and frankly, it’s confusing me. You have me wishing I had people’s lives that I don’t even know and comparing myself to every person I see on my instagram feed. You’ve got me using apps to deliver food and spending more and more money on it for no reason except that it’s tempting (and the  fact that sometimes it’s hard for me to leave my room). You have me online shopping and obsessing over things I probably will never have the luxury to own, it’s honestly starting to seem like a joke to me. You have me waiting for people to text me back and you give me alerts on the latest way the world is falling apart and I really can’t take it anymore.
I feel disconnected, lazy, obsessive, ignorant, and upset from all the things I see when I unlock you. I sleep with you charging right next me and checking you is the first thing I do when I wake up and the last thing I do when I go to sleep. That has to be rotting my brain somehow. You are next to me during class and when I’m trying to do my homework and when I’m trying to finally take some time alone to read or draw or do something else that helps me feel a little happier.
In some ways, however, I need to thank you and acknowledge the good things that come from this (slightly toxic) relationship, so here's a quick list. You keep me on time, you allow me to see and talk to my family and my bestfriend - who are so so far away, you allow me to be more aware of things that are going on all over the world, you get me from place to place. Thank you for all of those things, but we gotta spend some time apart.
Respectfully,
Screw you.

Response to Speculative Everything ch. 7
I think this reading really connects with what we did in class today, reflecting on how people in the 1900s speculated on how life would be today, they could only put our world in terms of what they had -like the people FaceTiming on a handheld mirror like device. This conveys the same point in a different way, thru  sketches it pushes the idea that we are limited by what is available to us. The part where the author touches on the utopia also somewhat conveys this point by asking: What we would be, as humans, if we didn't even have the limits of our basic needs? For example, in this utopia everything is free, therefore no one would have to worry about their next meal or where they are going to sleep that night, so how much different would our world be if everyone was given fair chance of success and to reach their mind’s full potential.

Response to 10/26 speaker
I thought Zander’s talk was really cool. The most interesting part for me was his work with virtual reality and when he explored the differences between the animations in different video games. I thought it was really relevant to me because I’d like to go into some type of animation or 3d design, so his work with the MLB was really cool to me. It was also super new to me and informative to see how much work and collaboration it takes to make these 3d realities and animations.
