Updates!!!
For the past 3 weeks, I was able to (a) develop my website (with the amazing help of my thesis adviser and my brother), (b) launch the website, (c) open my Facebook page for the social media campaign, and (d) begin sending out Google forms for testing.
It was definitely a lot of work, and I had to take several crash courses for web development but I think it was worth it after seeing the site up and after getting good feedback on the website.
But the work is not yet done!!!!
There are several improvements I think I have to make before the exhibit and before I finally present it on my final defense.
The results of my testing so far (I’m still in the process of conducting it) gave a couple of insights on how I can improve my design solution:
The quiz results show that a handful of people still don’t have a full understanding of the problem. For every question, there is always at least one person who will choose the wrong answer. From this I thought that it’s either (a) my questions are too complex, or (b) the users didn’t actually go through reading the content of the site.
2 out of the 12 respondents so far expressed that the length of some sections were too long. When asked whether the length of the sections is reasonable, 38.5% answered 4 (the rest answering 5, being the highest). Understandably, this might be a shared sentiment among my stakeholders considering that a lot of them could be busy with schoolwork and would only really go through all the content if they are conducting a research on the topic. I shouldn’t expect them to be eager enough to read through all the content I put on the website.
Other respondents also mentioned that they wish the problem was visualized more through statistical data, or with an infographic showing how e-waste circulates in society. I’ll keep this in mind and try to make revisions on the site.
One respondent also said that the transfer button at the side was not noticeable as a button at first. To address this, I plan on adding a simple animation cue to differentiate the button from the other elements when someone hovers over it.
Apart from those major comments, there is good feedback on the content (usefulness, relevance, showing a clear and concise picture of the problem), the design, and the UX. I’ll just have to make certain adjustments to improve the website.
Meanwhile, I have to keep updating my Facebook page and it really is a huge task! I’ve been publishing posts with one liners on e-waste, mainly to direct them to the website—but to make a successful social media campaign, I realize I have to share content that is informative in itself without having to redirect them to the site. So I’m currently coming up with mini-infographics that can be shared on Facebook.
That’s it for now! I apologize for not being able to post for the past weeks wah

Website design inspiration (story section)
Found these two websites that I think are able to present their respective stories well with good overall design. I really like the smooth section-to-section transitions and how some parts are emphasized nicely. Also, the font pairings are beautiful :-(

[WEEK 3 UPDATE]
This will be where I’ll input my final content for the website. I used a sheet so it’ll be easier to copy entire sections. I based this off of my Content Plan (see previous post). The cells highlighted in yellow are the actual items—or paragraphs—i’ll be writing. The other ones are just to guide me on what subjects I have to tackle on each section.

[WEEK 3 UPDATE]
This is an outline of my website content to guide me in formulating the copy for the actual website. I also put some sub-section title ideas in this document as well. I think I’ll just be re-telling everything I was able to research and put in my paper last semester, but this time making it easier to digest.

Regional report on E-waste in Asia/useful info for me
“E-waste legislation is in a “transitory state” in China, Malaysia, the Philippines and Viet Nam, marked by limited enforcement, low public awareness of risks, and both formal and informal elements in collection and recycling infrastructures.”

thesis anxiety!!!!!
I’m really anxious about thesis now that there’s the real(est) pressure of executing all the ideas I came up with for the past few months. AND there’s the additional anxiety from me still being clueless about coding......... and I think that’s getting in the way of my brainstorming what my website will look like—because I keep thinking about whether I can actually code it and make it happen.
But of course before I get to designing, I have to be certain that my content is SOLID (at least) and that the UX is nice (you know, theoretical things before all the technical things). So I’m trying to do some reading on all of this to make up for my disadvantage HAHAHA
Hopefully I’ll be able to follow my gantt chart and finish sitemapping this weekend. Homaygad. 2nd week ko na ito ng pag-buwelo sa second sem thesis lol

This book is useful (and very well laid out/designed, may I add) I’ve been trying to come up with a visual way to present all the boring chunk of data I have.
