mspfa recs [week of 6/15]
Holy moly we back!! but what yall been reading/writing/noting last week
happy 25th, micah somer has what I would call immaculate vibes. i think this comic is a prime example of how panel art can combo with the writing to really drill in specific tones; in this case, the way it's written and the generally more muted colors in the art lends itself well to how lo-fi it feels and I think that sort of shit is so goddamn cool. Also the protag got an insane fit and I love their design. They lowk filipino.
i've saved a ton of space for Edgestuck Chainbound because I think it has easily become my favorite adventure of all time after reading it. I think it's amazing cuz it's legitimately all killer and no filler: it sheds what would be a pretty usual mspfa intro to get straight into the actual game. the drama in this comic fucking rules and I think it's super refreshing to see. the characters have these inherent flaws that clash with the other people in the group and it ends up causing a crazy spiral effect that you read and go "This shit is so kino". I really like the characters, cass and mike especially are just insanely unique and the fact the author also establishes their history together as pretty close friends makes the moments that happen later 10x more interesting. ESCB's REALLY good with it's flashback usage: I feel like it takes some serious skill to have that many flashbacks and not only have them all contribute to the reader's overall knowledge of the relationships btwn these characters, but also have them written in a way where it doesn't feel like random junk filler. they help in establishing the "WHY" of some of the actions taken later in the story, and it never feels like any one event is the root cause: they stack with eachother and give a rich history to go from when shit eventually goes crazy mode. Also the art's nice, especially the backgrounds. Tl;dr it's KINO AS HELL (If you're wondering why i mention space concerns, it's because I write all of these primarily for the other-fanadventures channel in the Vast Error discord server and crosspost them to tumblr: i've been locked to 2000 characters for all of these posts LMAOO so I have to either do really light reviews of adventures, OR go crazy mode on 1-2 different adventures. Tragic but pressure breeds diamonds or whatever)

mspfa recs [week of 6/8]
Ay yo we back!! what yall been reading/writing/investigating last week.
This one is nameless but it's fuckin Awesome. I really like how it's written because on the first run through it seems like absolute gibberish, but re-reads make you realize that this shit super clear and it's awesome. It's unlike anything i've ever read on the site before, it's extremely unique in it's prose and I always like seeing different styles of writing on these sorta adventures
from description alone Cobalt Mirror immediately sounded like the coolest thing ever made and I'm happy to say it's delivering on that so far. I like how it already establishes a ton of intrigue with the troll and how he be doing shit: for example, he was the one to write his tag on da wall but How he do that if he an alien from another planet. It just got done with act 1 and shit getting Real rn.. it's real interesting and the pacing is pretty good, nothing feels too rushed or dragged out.
Echo Until Oblivion in terms of just general visuals is so fucking cool i gotta gush about it for a bit. It does a lot of really cool shit that I wish more adventures played with: primarily it's use of text alignment and how it plays in with what's happening in the story and characters is sick as hell. it ends up adding a ton to an already really interesting introduction, and when combined with it's amazing visuals and really slick writing (i LOVE how it uses 1st person perspective, it feels similar to this game called "The Drifter" i remember watching way back) I see this going fucking Crazy mode in the future. Also that intro panel's really nice.
Paperbound is like. Just click on this link and look at the 1st panel and you will quickly realize this is the Coolest shit ever made in any thing ever. No notes. Just kino cinema.

mspfa recs [week of 6/1]
Hey what up we back!! what yall been reading/writing/interrogating last week
Purified Paradise has a supa unique and cool story concept that i really like. it's this story about this little struggle between mutant trolls (most of which are kinda on this lil island for safety) and this unknown mysterious group who wants those mutants for presumably evil hell purposes. it's really nicely paced so far and i think if given time this one will end up being super fiyah
The Legendary Adventure of Hangman is kinda like another story I mentioned in the past, Shattered Mirrors, where the warnings are implying some really crazy shit to happen later in the story and I wanna see that super bad. what's here right now though is pretty nice, I think it's doing a nice job of establishing the norms of this setting and the art's actually super nice given how simplistic the bounds it's working with are. Kino
i absolutely love YIIK and it's writing. I think the introduction section is pretty nice but it gets ESPECIALLY good on panel 11 when they start butting heads with trolls. koal's just. Fucking amazing character man this 3 panel stretch is such a great read and I think you should read it just for that alone it's great
i found and read through All4Sburb: Moviemakers like, 5 minutes before I started typing this but it cannot go unmentioned cuz shit rocks. i think it can be hard to have characters feel like they have a legit in-depth history on top of being well written but this one has it really good from both angles for multiple characters so far, and I think there's this awesome chemistry already defined between diff members of the cast. even a smaller character like dene (duke's cousin) is awesome asf and it's a feat to make every character encountered a good one to read. it seemingly just got off a big break too so now's the best time to reading

mspfa recs [week of 5/25]
Happy pride month we back!! what yall been reading/writing/implementing last week
Nu Mäs is just super unique and probably one the coolest comics i've seen in vibe on the site. it's meant to be a visual accompaniment to an album called "Cannibal Crackers" by Koala Bear, which I had no idea even existed but giving the first track (Dying At The Chinese Restaurant) a listen it sounds sick. there's just something so slick about the vibe nu mas has: the muted color palette w/ mostly greys and blacks, the sharp angular art style (a style I didn't even know the author, derptree, had on lock like that) with crazy good body construction, the atmosphere being absolutely perfect in this weird uncanny valley of normal and unsettling, and all of it works with the story which has already been super engaging. really excited to see where this one goes
i absolutely love Dead Hand Dealt on the basis that it is just so very clearly a work of love and passion for da craft between a bunch of people who fw eachother. i usually find that it can be a bit difficult to write a group of friends in a story that actually FEELS natural if you're just writing it from scratch because there's just so much that goes into da chemistry and shit that can be impossible to write on your own. DHD doesn't struggle with that at all cuz it's just very clearly rooted in real ass vibes. i also like that it's easy to tell WHEN different people are working on different panels: there's a very clear art style variance between panels which imo elevates the reading experience because it's a fun game of telling what panels were done by who. i dont think it's trying to take itself too seriously and it's just overall really, REALLY fun to read.
this last one might be a bit of a schemazze, but Chronicles of The Bloodless is just. I got no words you just gotta read this. It's so fucking cool. No notes. Just read it.

mspfa recs [week of 5/18]
Happy summer!!! we back… what yall been reading/writing/perceiving last week
Fuck Around And Find Out contrary to what the name may suggest is actually a pretty chill and lighthearted comic. it's of that category of stories where shit just kinda happens and it keeps on flowing and i just like reading it for dat… writing's also kino asf and even the first bit of like real dialogue between 2 characters got OMEGA flavor and i fw it heavy. it also got objects which i was honestly unaware of the massive overlap between osc people and homestuck fans but I think it makes more sense after giving it some more thought
Earl's Alternian Shenanigans is uh, something. i think it's equivalent to a niche indie band where immediately on the first panel you will either get immediately offput by it or see the gold lying just underneath the crazy ass theme for earl and unearth real kino. on some real shit though this comic has some really awesome character interactions. despite there only being 2 real characters (earl and tylore) there is just this beautiful chemistry between them (supported by the writing style which is somehow just perfect for this story) that makes it fuckin. Kino peak. Nothing else to say. I like it.
Better Than Sburb in terms of general aesthetic, vibe, etc is just so goddamn cool. the visual identity of this stands head and shoulders above a good bit of other stuff i've seen: in general artstyle, paneling, it's reminiscent of something i cannot quite put my brain on rn but it reminds me of SOMETHING and that something is sick as hell. it's also just a super unique take on stuff happening during/after sburb: instead of it being this game of destiny only these randos will ever play, it's shown as this game like fuckin everyone has played and gone through. my only gripe is that the robot with thick thighs was a fnaf jumpscare but otherwise this shit rocks

mspfa recs [week of 5/11]
hey hey hey we back… what yall been reading/writing/doing last week :railway_track:
im a really big fan of Pilot and it's general visual identity. there's this super cool use of texture on the main character amy that really makes them pop, the use of both drawn characters on top of static dithered images leads to really cool shots, it's just overall supa unique and I think it's worth mentioning
i already know Paper Crane is going to go triple platinum just from this small intro alone. it sets up the world the story takes place in amazingly, establishing all the history really needed to understand the backstory of the main character and how they got there. it's got that little graph paper overlay that kinda reminds me of the first few xkcd comics which is a super nice touch. i hope madd keeps on working because the concept is already really cool and it has a ton of room for doing cool shit
after putting it off for a while i caught up with Degstuck, the furthest along of any recs of here with the prologue being fully done. and holy fuck the prologue is AMAZING. the ending section with storm by GY!BE while being a bit rough due to technical MSPFA audio stuff is amazing to read, but the rest of it doesn't slack either. it's a really nice mix of these cute light hearted sections like one with an aura farming drone named benjamin and then more emotional sections like da interactions between xiefae and fazida that's just. really nice written there's some really crazy versatility in this work and i fucking love it. Deg heads RISE UP
[UNIDENTIFIED PLAYER HAS JOINED] is just really cool conceptually and I also think it has a lot of potential to go crazy mode. i've rarely seen anyone try out writing stuff for solo sburb gameplay (probably because it's a diff skillset writing-wise to pull it off) and the description is implying a lot more stuff under the surface that will happen. i did see this was the author's first work on the site and im hoping they don't geet too ambition and burn out (or they go nutty mode and manage it by being the GOAT).
there's also one extra one i wanted to mention that is really cute but the images are fucked rn and it's Well shit, it's not like that crazy but it was just a nice read and that shit got omega soul. i hope the author is able to find out wtf going on with the images tho cuz as of 18/5/2025 6:54 PM MST the images were being fucky on the 2 browsers i tried (chrome and firefox)

mspfa recs [week of 5/4]
kumusta we back… what yall been reading/writing/sharing last week. lots of cool shit this week
24 people play Sburb is intriguing just because of the title alone. Big casts are already really hard to balance out and having 23 other shmucks that have to enter seems like it's going to be a nightmare to write and plan out. Other than that though I really like the author's take on the tried-and-true homestuck introduction: you've got some really interesting takes on the strife specubi (UIkind), some nice animation, all that good shit. i will be tuned in. for an additional fun fact, this is a re-do of this author's first comic, 48 people play sburb.
I absolutely love TODAY, YOU WILL DIE because it tackles a concept i've really taken a liking to without it feeling like it's drawn out for the sake of being drawn out. the premise is really simple, it's just the last moments of someone on earth right before the meteor hits earth in homestuck, without any chance of going into sburb and surviving. it's a really human interpretation on it: a lot of the things that happen in the story end up just being up to the reader on how it plays out. we learn about mile's friends but we only really get to see one while the other is only shown as a doodle in the thoughts of mile. while i think it might be a bit short (11 panels, you can get it done in like 3-5 minutes) it's just a super engaging read all throughout, and i hope more people take this sort of concept and do some cool shit
Hoodstuck is probably one of the most absurd, unserious things i have read so far on mspfa and it's awesome. it's primo slice-of-life content, wth the plot basically just being an observation of lil john york's life. there's this level of quality to the art, animation and even general story that I do not think this comic warranted but it's super nice to have anyways. really fun read all around

MSPFA recs [week of 4/27]
ayyy we back… what yall been reading/writing last week. always be trying to find new stuff out there
i can really appreciate good looking CSS and Rootbound is a prime example of that kinda stuff. super clean, really easy to read, put dat shit in a museum, etc. just in general this shit is beautiful as hell to look at and it elevates the reading experience tenfold. that not to say the story slacking, i really like how it establishes the meteor threat early and how that leads into the reason for them playing the game, also there's a legit alien that's homies with the main character. shit is cool!
i got really high hopes for Shattered Mirrors because while it's still very much early on in it's life, there's this tag on it, "gore/body horror", that has me super excited to see what the author got in store. this beginning section is super cute though i love all the characters established and it's just lit as hell. cant wait to peep the horror these characters will most definitely experience like 30-40 pages from now
for being a first adventure MACHIVOX SQUADRON is a really fun read. it's not super deep (atleast at this point) like other stories but it makes up for it with the character interactions which are pretty damn good. each member of the cast is distinct in personality, which i feel can be a problem with bigger casts when you're trying to do longer stories so it's nice to see something like this. i hope this author does a ton of great things in the future cuz they def got potential
i would keep an eye out for Bluhstuck because this comic got a lil mini-walkaround within the first 15 panels. That already a good sign of things to come imo. but other than that I just really like the clean ass art, especially those backgrounds cuz oh my days it's real nice to look at. the main storyline hasn't really gotten started yet but i'm interested to see what happens then

MSPFA recs [week of 4/20]
yo what up. i've been doing these sorta posts for a bit on the vast error discord server (in other-fanadventures) but I think having another place to put them for archival might actually be pretty cool and awesome cuz discord got bought out by Evil Corp. so if some of the wording implies some past recommendations that's why LMAO feel free to drop ur own recommendations/self promo in the notes or whatever they called. it been a billion years since I used tumblr
didn't recommend this earlier because it was dead for a bit but Housebound is back and this shit is so goddamn cool. Click on da first panel and see how crazy the vibes are in this comic. It's super different stylistically from a lot of other stuff i've read and it's cool to see this kinda storyline placed in the 1950s
Bind is probably one the most surprisingly good things I've read this week. i think with character focused stories it can be really hard to get it right because you have to balance so many characters at once while still progressing the plot, and while it's not perfect it's still a really nice read. i went out of my way to finish it this morning before writing this and it starts getting supa cool further in, and I hope to see karb do more
I really like Earth C Rising as it has a really interesting interpretation of the events after Homestuck. rose ends up being an author who writes (what most think are) fictional stories about her time playing the game and the main character is someone who's pretty interested in it and eventually begins on their path to playin tha game too and exploring the mysteries behind her books. things like da explanation for how trolls be co-existing on the new Earth C and how there's just a whole cult around Rose and her myths are kino asf. i think once this gets fleshed out more with more panels this could be one the greatest things eva made
Pentstuck is p good, but it's here because holy shit it has such a kino replication of the homestuck style. me and my art homie were Conversing about dat shit, Labbing Homestuck Tech. this prolly one of the best comics you could do HS art studies on because it's still simplistic while having more subtle details (e.g in the elbows) that really help in making the style go crazy mode. also helps that the writing just good too
if u fw this lmk
