What Is ORV?
The number one question I get asked on this blog, now answered better than ever. Today I am going to formally introduce you to Omniscient Reader's Viewpoint
To start off this recommendation: ORV might very well be my favorite thing I've read. Ever. If I could only reread one thing for the rest of my life it'd be this webnovel.
My elevator pitch is this: something with the cosmic-scale goofy video game nonsense and intricate setting comparable to Homestuck in its prime, paired with the deft emotional poignancy and emotionally-driven fights of Mob Psycho 100, topped off with the sort of compassionate and heartwrenching metanarrative of Undertale.
ORV is a love letter to it's own readers. ORV revels in the joy of losing yourself in fiction, even when it's the kind of fiction that tends to be considered lowbrow or worthless. It's something that dances the delicate line between recognizing the difficult nature of using media as escapism without condemning it. I've rarely seen anything else that accomplishes everything it sets out to do in its narrative with such remarkable precision. Frankly if you're reading a tumblr media recommendation post in 2023, I can almost guarantee ORV has the kind of meat you're looking for in a narrative, whatever that may be.
The story follow the antics of protagonist Kim Dokja, a 28 year old office worker on an expiring contract, whose only real joy in life is reading his favorite massively long and massively boring webnovel. One day, the novelâs events - worldwide deathmatches aired for the entertainment of mysterious higher beings called âconstellationsâ - begin playing out in reality in a sort of reverse-isekai. Kim Dokja, the only longterm reader of this webnovel, finds himself uniquely poised to succeed based on the advantages given to him by his knowledge of future events, but the webnovelâs actual protagonist, Yoo Jonghyuk, is a violent monster who will stop at absolutely nothing to complete his goals, no matter the cost to anyone else. Kim Dokja finds himself in a delicate dance of guiding the events of the story to play out more favorably than the version he read while trying to avoid being massacred in the fallout, all while trying to see it through to the storyâs end.Â
Below the cut I'll go into a more in-depth (but non-spoilery) explanation of what exactly makes ORV so unique and worthwhile, and what you're in for if you choose to read it.
Clocking in at 550 chapters, and over 1.3 million words in English, ORV may seem incredibly daunting to dip your toes into, but I assure you it's worth every moment. I would read 1.3 million more words if they had them for me. Here are some things about ORV I consider to be selling points, not necessarily in any particular order:
The tone. Its funny, for starters. It is extremely funny, which is very high up on my media priority list. In ORV, there will be incredibly grim things that make you laugh, and incredibly cringe and silly anime bullshit that will hurt you as heavily as any other media youâve seen. I always love this kind of tonal whiplash when it's well executed, and ORV probably executes it better than anything else I've seen to date.
Itâs got fun and fascinating worldbuilding mechanics. the core concept being âreality now operates on the rules of a shitty novelâ means that the worldbuilding doesnât have to function logically, it functions thematically. Itâs explicitly stated in ORV canon that some of the internal rules governing this new reality are objectively really stupid and illogical, but they just have to roll with it because thatâs what was in the book, and i think itâs a really enjoyable way to do it. This may at first sound like a copout to excuse bad worldbuilding, but I promise it isnât. The worldbuilding is actually incredibly deeply thought out, but it doesnât exist for the sake of rational function, it exists for the sake of furthering orvâs thematic arcs. The rules by which this universe operate do a magnificent job of strengthening the core concepts the authors are exploring.
It plays with the trappings of isekai/litrpg in a really thoughtful way. These are genres I'm not super familiar with, so I can't comment on this point too heavily, but with my limited knowledge ORV feels a lot less of a deconstruction of it's genre and more of a celebration/interrogation of it. Despite that, it's still accessible to readers such as myself who are not super familiar with these genre conventions.
It deals with morality in a really wonderful and nuanced way. there are almost no characters in ORVâs extremely large cast who are just explicitly morally condemnable, and almost every conflict allows you to understand exactly why the antagonists believe theyâre in the right by opposing the actions of our protagonists. The central conflicts are never pure right and pure wrong; theyâre always about contrasting goals, conflicting worldviews, and different priorities between ends and means. this makes the conflicts all feel so much more dynamic and engaging than those where the only stakes are physical harm.
The characters interpersonal relationships are some of the most interesting I've ever seen. ORV is very slow burn and it takes a long time for a lot of these to come out of the woodwork, by design, but by god once they do they fucking hit. Similar to the plot conflicts, the interpersonal conflicts also almost never occur where thereâs one side clearly in the wrong. The characters are almost all genuinely attempting to do their best by each other, and the tension comes from the ways in which human communication is fundamentally imperfect and part of our feelings and intentions get lost in translation. itâs very heartwrenching and heartwarming to see unfold, in equal measure.
Following from that, itâs a narrative that really meaningfully prioritizes non-romantic relationships over romantic ones as the central focus. Orv is about love, but not about romance. Obviously thereâs shipbait and the ot3 is real and good and my friend but if youâre looking for deep complex platonic, (found or otherwise) familial, and antagonistic relationships that never get ruined with forced romantic arcs, we got em baby!
The pacing is unlike anything iâve ever seen before. from a purely technical standpoint, it is genuinely a fascinating case study in how to execute a narrative that is almost constantly escalating without exception. there is very little downtime or breathing room in orv, which is insane for something that clocks in at over a million words, and somehow, it still works. iâve never felt more like a frog in a pot of slowly boiling water than i did when i was reading orv and i canât believe they pulled it off. itâs so interesting to read something like that.
It is a tragedy without resorting to cynicism and a very adult narrative thatâs really steeped in childlike wonder. Iâm a big fan of cartoons made for children. Cartoons made for children are some of my favorite things to watch, but of course childrenâs media will always be simplified and not very relatable to an adult audience. ORV is very much a serious and heavy adult narrative, and a deeply tragic one at that, but it never delves into torture porn. Itâs a very compassionate piece of media overall, that holds a lot of reverence and sympathy for the ânaiveâ optimism of children that gets stripped down over time. if you, like me, feel more like a grown up child than an adult some days, I think itâll hit for you.
It is extremely cathartic and meaningful. I am not exaggerating at all when I say that reading it gave me the closest thing I have ever felt to any sort of spiritual breakthrough. It helped unfuck my head a ton during some very grim times and i think the perspective it offers on the value of human life and our relationship to storytelling is a really really good one.
And if my word isn't enough, here's some reviews from satisfied customers. With that, I'll leave the rest to you, and hope you one day reach the end of the story.

i feel like in iwaio it wouldve been iwaizumi who fell in love first. like he prob had some inkling that he might have been inlove since they were children and kept quiet abt it bc u know how oikawa is, completely absorbed w volleyball,, it was prob not until they were in college that oikawa realised that he was in love w iwa and iwas response wouldve been smth like âfinally, ive been waiting for you, numbskullâ
Who was the first to fall in love
Bokuaka: everybody thinks that it was Bokuto, but it was really Akaashi
Kagehina: obviously Kageyama like look at him so sweet so gay
Iwaoi: Oikawa!!! Those arms are supafine, iwa
Kiyoyachi: I think it's kind of said in the thing that Yachi thought Kiyoko was hot immediately, and Yachi saw Kiyoko first? Maybe???
Ukatake: Ukai thought Takeda was amazing, then Takeda saw the beauty that was Ukai
Kuroken: Kuroo was following Kenma around for ages, in love, before Kenma realized that he actually liked the nerdy, fabuloso, wonderful boy
Tsukiyama: I would really like it to be Tsukki, but probably it was Yams
Asanoya: Nishinoya

hello !! i hope u are well!! do u possibly have any kurodai fic recs owo
Hello!! I am well!!Do you know how scared i am of this ask because I currently have 100+ kurodai fav fics and counting as days go by and itâs impossible for me to choose a few since they are all so so wonderful for my soul? ; w ;Â
But iâm still gonna try and rec you some and seriously, please visit those fic writers for more kurodai bliss. Ok, here goes without any specific order (i did not include smut since i donât know your preferences):
4 times Sawamura Daichi didnât realize he was being flirted with by @vikingpotetoOblivious Daichi is a thing, tho Bokuto was unconsciously trying to help poor Kuroo out. Kuroo is so smooth at 6 am. Bokuto and Oikawaâs friendship is precious.
70% water, 100% interesting by @spring-emeraldA bunch of nerds playing a game where you have to deliver the lamest pick-up line to a stranger your friend will decide on.Nervous, awkward and messy Kuroo delivering the lamest pick-up line? yes. 100% love it.
Initially yours by @spring-emeraldSoulmate au where people get the first initials of their soulmate. A lot of false assumptions that are really hilarious and that final moment when they meet was such a great moment!!
Words canât espresso how much you mean to me by @amaanogawaTired uni student Daichi treats himself some expensive coffee. Barista Kuroo was already making it so obvious but the boy is oblivious. I enjoy bad puns so needless to say, i really liked this.
Wherever you go, whatever it takes by @amaanogawaApocalypse au (imma just spoil it to you that no one dies). The world is infested by human cannibals and Daichi and Kuroo are probably the last two survivors barely hanging there. Beautifully written and if this ainât true love then idk what is.
Picture me by your side by @x-lazart-xKuroo and Daichi are roommates (g a s p, they are roommates), and Kuroo purposely sends pics of Daichi to the pinning Terushima because itâs fun watching the punk be jealous but Kuroo ends up falling for his roommate? Absolutely genius, Kuroo.
Hey babe, are you garbage âcause i wanna take you out by @pepperfield12 amazing, funny, fluffy oneshots from different prompts/aus and iâm so sold out for the singer au *cries*Â
Iâve got a crush on you by @kythenKuroo pinning so hard since high school, then ends up at uni with Daichi. Will that boi ever confess cuz heâs barely functional when Daichiâs crashing at his place.
Let me stay by your side by @kythenDaichi has a crush on Kuroo, but Kuroo doesnât know that and managed to fracture his arm, so Daichi has to take care of him. The tension, the fluff, the cuteâŚ..slight smut at the end.
Marry me is not a question by @thatishogwashKuroo is a thief who wants nothing more than to marry Daichi, a pirate. Meanwhile, Kuroo also angered the Grand King, Oikawa, whoâs trying to murder them. The story is hilarious and if one day iâm getting married, i need Terushima to be the one delivering the speech.Â
A difference of opinion by @thatishogwash  Daichi is a prince married off to the king of another kingdom to save his own kingdom. This is a long story, but so worth it with the variety of characters and events happening around the pairing.
Thereâs no separating you from me by @stacysmashFreshman uni student Daichi gets assigned to be Kurooâs roommate. Thinking itâd be awkward to be friends with Kuroo when volleyball isnât involved, they strangely get along so well that most people would think that theyâre dating since friends donât usually behave like that toward each other. Slow building, but oh god the emotions are so powerful.
I love youâŚnice to meet you by @stacysmashâSoulmate au. When you reach 16 yo, you start having dreams of your soulmate, but you never really get to see their face properly. When the dreams happen less, that means youâll soon meet them. Daichi didnât have any dreams at first, thinking he didnât have any soulmate. And then it happened.I muffled my screams in my pillow and kicked the air while reading.
Gimme that, gimme that ice cream by @roronoaxdDaichi is lactose intolerant but the dude behind the counter was cute so he panicked and ordered ice cream. And he went back and did it several times.Â
Unlocking your heart by PastlesHow Kuroo keeps leaving his phone unattended and comes back with a surprise everytime he unlocks it will forever be a mystery and everyone knows he has a crush on Daichi.
These are just a few and i know there are writers and fics i havenât discovered yet but iâm slowly catching upâŚâŚ..

Not⌠exactly what I planned to draw after last chapter. The cause of this shitpost must be the European heat wave. It is seriously tiring me out. That Midnight at the end is me.
Shoto loves soba, almost to unhealthy levels. He is going to marry that soba. The bastard only likes cold soba tho. If he comes to like hot soba one day that will be his real character development. I canât wait to see the day.

BNHA Fic Recommendations
This post will be dedicated to Tododeku fics, my other posts are as follows:
Kiribaku
Momojirou
Kamisero
Rarepairs
Not Ship Oriented Fics
Ratings
G (hugging, cuddling, flirting, pining, hand holding)
PG (a smooch, mentions/hints of abuse, trauma, blood or violence, drinking, and making out)Â
PG-13 (full on making out, imminent hickey territory, descriptions of abuse or outright abuse/violence). These characters are children, so if you, an adult, are looking for nsfw fics, of children, pls perish. If you are not an adult, know that I am an adult (legally at least) & you will not find that content here.Â
None of these fics have major character deaths of any sort.Â
Also, please note: These are my recommendations, meaning I have read these and liked them enough to want to reread them and share them. The ships above are all ships I support and search for content for, they are ships I ship. I do not have recommendations for Izuchako, Todomomo, Kacchako, Katsudeku or other ships, this is because I do not ship them.Â
Click on the title!
1) Saltwater Room by Reapers | Words: 28,793 (6 chapters) | Rated PG (only because mentions of drinking, nothing more than smooching here)
Summary: Aged up characters, college au, midoriya and todoroki are friends & roommates. Midoriya is invited by Iida, his ex, to a fun (& free) beach weekend. Only problem is Uraraka, Midoriyaâs other ex, will be there⌠and may or may not be currently dating Iida. Of course Midoriya says its fine and nothing is awkward between the three of them, but really, who wants to show up to a weekend getaway at their exâs house single? He tells Todoroki he can come along if he pretends to be his boyfriend⌠little does Midoriya know Todoroki feels some typa way about Midoriya. Mutual pining although they are both oblivious thots. Mostly from Todorokiâs pov.
2) Summer Stars by PitViperOfDoom | Words: 61,213 (13 chapters) | Rated PG-13 (mentions of child abuse past and present, abuse, violence, blood, fighting)
Summary: HOLY SHIT. If you read any long tododeku fic on here, make it this one. Todoroki centric but shifts perspectives. Focuses on the abuse Todoroki has endured/continues to endure under Endeavor. Its really really good (which of course translates to really really fuckin sad), you WILL cry. Rather than have Todoroki be forced to stay with Endeavor for summer break, Midoriya invites Todoroki to stay with him and his mom for a few weeks. Inko is a fucking angel and I love her, I would die for her.
3) Hot Hot Leg by Yenso | Words: 3,926 (1 chapter) | Rated G
Summary: Wow talk about a meme fic, its honestly fucking hilarious though and super in character, I donât want to give anything away butâŚ. consider todorokiâs quirkâs cooking applicationsâŚ. lmao
4) Sweet Nothings by Spanano | Words: 5,388 (1 chapter) | Rated PG-13 (for mentions of abuse and blood)
Summary: This is not even really a tododeku fic, its todoroki centric and sad af. Pro heroes spar with the students at school and you can only guess who shouto is paired with⌠:(
5) Put Our Heads Together by Periapsis | Words: 2,808 (1 chapter) | Rated PG-13 (for violence, fighting, blood)
Summary: A series of small bits and pieces where Midoriya & Todoroki bump heads either with one another or with objects by accident because they are both clutzes. Last few are connected and the end is hella hella cute/fluffy
6) Dandelion Butter and Wishing Weeds by Ohhotlamb (bc who else lmao) | Words: 2,141 (1 chapter) | Rated G
Summary: So so soooooo cute and pure, so much fluff. Todoroki is a pining mess. Flowery/aesthetique af
7) Tea at Midnight (Part 1 of the Sweater Weather Sieries) by crispykrimi | Words: 2,000 (part 1 of a series (10 in total so far???) | Rated PG
Summary: Todoroki getting used to living w/ people other than endeavor. Todoroki & Midoriya have tea together in the dorms and its adorable. Also some grade A kirishima x todoroki broship, manly men discuss crushes with their friends. Also Iâm not about to describe each part of the series just know its all cute and it goes places and Todoroki loves this one sweater of Midoriyaâs a lot. Also some v background kiribaku and momojirou, grade A todoroki x momo broship throughout the series too, def recommending reading the whole thing & not just this part.
8) Teenage Rebellion by Celestialfics | Words: 2,338 (1 chapter) | Rated G
Summary: So pure, so adorable, so cliche, 110% living for it. They bump into momojirou at the piercing station at the mallâŚ. so h*ckin cute wowÂ
9) Hero, Sing Swiftly Me to Sleep (Part 1 of Sing Swiftly Series) by Whatacasstastrophe | Words: 7,434 (part ½ sing swiftly series) | Rated G
Summary: Um they build forts n shit??? Watch each other play pokemon?? Again some quality kirishima x todoroki broship?? Dance on couches to get rid of nightmares & get caught in the moonlight?? Genderfluid todoroki?? Me crying in the corner??!
10) Blurred Focus, In This Light (Part 2 of Sing Swiftly Series) by Whatacasstastrophe | Words: 3,607 (part 2/2 sing swiftly series) | Rated G
Summary: Again, soft and adorable. Trans midoriya, artist midoriya. Study dates, cuties.
11) I Wonât Just Buy You A Rose (Part 1 of Flowers In Our Eyes Series) by Aknightley | Words: 13,474 (part ½ flowers in our eyes series) | Rated PG
Summary: A seriously adorable flowershop AU. Really really good writing & in character, they do have quirks, 2nd years, Izuku meets All Might in a different way.
12) Time Left to Be Lazy (Part 2 of Flowers in Our Eyes Series) By Aknightley | Words: 7,823 (part 2/2 of flowers in our eyes series) | Rated PG
Summary: Izuku getting used to having a quirk, continuing Tododeku, Midoriya making friends.
13) Spring Cleaning by PitViperOfDoom | Words: 2,947 (part 1/6 (so far?) of the send endeavor to the shadow realm series) | Rated PG (for mentions of child abuse, is completely platonic)
Summary: Midoriya is the best boy on the planet?? takes place post sports festival arc. Midoriya is disgusted by what he learns of endeavor and heâll be damned if there is nothing he can do about it, even if what he can actually do only seems miniscule in the grand scope of things.
14) In Which Midoriya Izuku is a Fucking Savage by PitViperOfDoom | Words: 805 (part 2/6 of the send endeavor to the shadow realm series) | Rated G
Summary: Midoriya is a good friendâŚ. and a fucking savage. Pure crack.

tododeku fic recs
this is for @lionessalluraÂ
tbh this is a lot less than i expected but like apparently the rest of the tododeku fic recs i have saved are of mostly midoriya pining but my rambling will make up for it so ¯\_(ă)_/ÂŻ
but me, iâd rather be with you by velvetcrowbars [28k words] - idk if you like the fake dating trope, but that is a personal fave of mine and this one is just fucking great. basically this takes place when everyone is a pro hero and todoroki and midoriya get back in touch and the media thinks theyâre an item. anyway its fun and i love it
Hitsuzen by Methoxyethane [10k words] - basically todoroki and midoriya are having their first date and todoroki is Realizing Things. things like how it was inevitable that he would fall in love with midoriya, its great and its cute
yours, mine, ours by cityboys [45k words] - this is without a doubt, the best tododeku fic ive ever read in my life. this is actually a dual narrative story so thereâs also momojirou going on at the same time as the tododeku and its fucking great. basically momo and todoroki are childhood friends and they fall in love with jirou and midoriya respectively and its very cute. honestly, this author fucking saved my life, everything they write is beautiful and i love
falling, falling, falling by celestialfics [1k words] - this is a 5 + 1 fic and idk how you feel about those fics but this one was rlly cute. basically its the five times todoroki wants to kiss midoriya but doesnt and the one time midoriya takes matters into his own hands and god its so good.Â
that is just the way by celestialfics [6k words] - this is a fic where todoroki and midoriya have a sleepover and todoroki is pining throughout the whole thing. its very cute and sweet and a fun read
donât care if the world knows by aknightley [8k words] - this is another 5 + 1 fic and this one actually has spoilers for the manga (from up to chapter 99), so if you havenât read the manga then dont read this. basically its from the point of view of the other characters as they notice todoroki pine for midoriya real hard. its great.
sore must be the storm by Pouler (poulerslashes) [10k words] - so this one is a hurt/comfort fic which ik isnt what your looking for, but its still good so maybe give it a try. this takes place after a fight and midoriya and todoroki are stuck under a building and they talk things out before theyre saved.Â
im sorry about all the long fics, its just those are my fave types of fics. anyways, i hoped this helped!!

Cryogenic
Shouto Todoroki was clumsy.
It took his classmates months to fully realize this. Most likely, it was due to their initial meeting at U.A., where Todoroki had presented himself as an unbeatable powerhouse, athletic beyond compare, and outright terrifying in his calm and cool composure in the face of adversity. Later, his classmates realized that cool intimidation was just social ineptitude in a hat. Later they realized Todorokiâs powers were beatable by high-profile villains or else by Midoriya yelling and breaking his arms. Later they realized Shouto Todoroki wasnât much different from anyone else.
Maybe that was when they realized that on top of all Todorokiâs accolades, accomplishments, and acclaims, he held a talent like no other for dropping stuff.Â
The first time it became an issue was during morning exercise, when the Class 1-A kids had been paired off and given a baseball to toss back and forth. All Might had given some spiel about the virtues of coordination, teamwork, and the gentle handling of precious objectsâsomething that sounded more like it was intended for an egg-toss, and quite possibly that All Might had accidentally crushed the eggs, and switched to baseballs in substitute. None of the kids thought too hard about it. It was too early for metaphors, or for wondering what All Might might have done with a dozen squashed eggs.
At the end of the speech, All Might proposed a competition: the pair who could rack up the highest number of consecutive back-and-forths would win. The prize would be⌠âsomethingâ as All Might put it, ad-libbing the entire eggless exercise. Excited murmuring sparked through the early morning air. All Might gave the signal to start.

âCome kill me someday, all right? Thatâs the only way you can save me now.â
Oh boy, a dramatic line from my own damn fic. Is that ego-filled self-promotion? Idfk someone kick me. ANYWAYS, this is a scene from my Villain!Deku fic, Pulling the Wires, which Iâm pretty happy with tbh! It inspired me to actually put effort into my art, which, yâknow, is a bonus too. So yea, if u wanna read it go ahead my dude. Itâs gonna have a shit ton of angst and Iâm gonna attempt to write slow burn tododeku. I say attempt because god knows Iâm an impatient motherfucker LMAO. Also Deku has a mix of his parentsâ quirks 3Ⲡ(psychokinesis that only works on fire)
