Christmas as a cultural icon is starting to get really dystopian in a climate sense, december has historically been a time of year in which there would be snow in a significant portion of europe and north america, and the fact that its not even icy this time of year and all the christmas songs and decorations reference a time of year that will likely never exist in the same way again in my life time is so strange.

look, I know I've talked about this essay (?) before but like,
If you ever needed a good demonstration of the quote "Any sufficiently advanced technology is indistinguishable from magic", have I got an exercise for you.
Somebody made a small article explaining the basics of atomic theory but it's written in Anglish. Anglish is basically a made-up version of English where they remove any elements (words, prefixes, etc) that were originally borrowed from romance languages like french and latin, as well as greek and other foreign loanwords, keeping only those of germanic origin.
What happens is an english which is for the most part intelligible, but since a lot everyday english, and especially the scientific vocabulary, has has heavy latin and greek influence, they have to make up new words from the existing germanic-english vocabulary. For me it kind of reads super viking-ey.
Anyway when you read this article on atomic theory, in Anglish called Uncleftish Beholding, you get this text which kind of reads like a fantasy novel. Like in my mind it feels like it recontextualizes advanced scientific concepts to explain it to a viking audience from ancient times.
Even though you're familiar with the scientific ideas, because it bypasses the normal language we use for these concepts, you get a chance to examine these ideas as if you were a visitor from another civilization - and guess what, it does feel like it's about magic. It has a mythical quality to it, like it feels like a book about magic written during viking times. For me this has the same vibe as reading deep magic lore from a Robert Jordan book.

I’m not saying I wouldn’t have liked more time or depth from Obi-Wan, and he does come off a little bit like comic relief sometimes (but hes honestly pretty snarky in all the prequels as well). A major part of of Obi-Wan’s character arc is realizing how he failed Anakin by not giving him the kind of support he needed, and being a council member, falling to the same hubris that brought down the Jedi Order.
I personally don’t feel that Obi-Wan is presented in a way that colours my perspective of him negatively - he’s just not put on a pedestal as a shining example of the perfect Jedi, which I would say is nuanced characterization (plus acknowledging the comic relief bits existing as part of “this is marketed as a children’s cartoon and is generally pretty dark so we need to break some tension”). Audience perspective is subjective - Obi Wan’s actions could be perceived as negative, neutral, or justified depending on who is watching. That’s the great thing about stories imo.
I also don’t agree that they should have had more time together - the whole point of Anakin’s arc in TCW is that he’s no longer Obi-Wan’s padawan, he is a Jedi Knight and this is the point in his life where he gets to be more independent. This lets him develop his personality beyond “whiny teenager that’s mad Obi Wan is always telling him what to do”. Ahsoka’s purpose is to help with that maturing process, because being away from Obi and having his own padawan, helps him truly learn the lessons Obi was trying to teach him all along. I also think the Satine arc is important and in character - it shows Anakin a bit more of Obi’s flaws and again, knocks him off his pedestal. It also gives context for why Obi turned a blind eye to Ani and Padme despite being aware they had feelings for each other.
So in response to the sort of personal tone of the question - does Dave Filoni not like Obi-Wan? No, I don’t think that’s the case. I think you just disagree with him about aspects of the character. I do think Dave enjoyed spending time expanding on characters that weren’t explored as much in the films, AND I think his characterization of Obi-Wan was intentional, not to make us dislike him, but to add nuance to the overall story. If you go back and watch The Phantom Menace, I think the groundwork for all his arcs in TCW is already there in the character writing.
Real question here: does Dave Filoni not like Obi Wan or something?
I mean as fans there’s probably no way we’d ever actually know, but I feel like he has to not care about him as much as Anakin and Ahsoka at the very least.
He got the worst storylines in TCW and the most shallow character development (which he didn’t even really need imo, at least not in the way it was presented, but that’s a whole separate post). And there’s also his relationship with Ahsoka not ever being taken seriously even though realistically it should’ve been way deeper than it was.
Maybe I’m reading into things way too much, but every time Dave Filoni has been behind a portrayal of Obi Wan, it just always comes off like he’s being sidelined or his importance is being downplayed. Anyone who has read Obi Wan’s canon novels or just has a decent understanding of him as a character knows there’s way more to him than the canon shows let you see. Not to mention that there is a lot of TCW which is just blatantly out of character but, again, that’s a completely different and very, very long post.

Honestly I think it’s just because Anakin is the main character (so obviously he gets most screen time) and Dave wanted to focus his writing on developing the character he created (Ahsoka) - who helps progress Anakins character development. Or characters like Maul who had no character development in the films, whereas we saw pretty significant changes in Obi-Wan between four films. And I do think Obi-Wan gets some pretty good arcs in TCW, particularly the Satine arc - but a lot of his moments are spent showing how he’s often forced to mediate between Anakin and the council - again he’s there as a foil to Anakin, he’s not the main character.
Real question here: does Dave Filoni not like Obi Wan or something?
