Vivian let the idea sit for a moment, nodding along to her thoughts as her fingers drummed against her side. “Not gonna lie, it looks inviting..” Her words diffed off, her eyes moving from the ocean back to Apollo, an apologetic smile spread across her lips. “And cold. We run in now and no one’s gonna let us forget we did.”
He knew his next suggestion was wholly inappropriate, but he couldn’t stop himself. Perhaps it was just the feeling of the evening, and a bit of playfulness creeping onto him from the atmosphere. “If they’re gonna talk about it, might as well give them something to talk about. Strip down buck naked and run in, then see what they have to say.” his grin was undeniably teasing, but there was a certain seriousness to his eyes. It didn’t bother him at all. “Can’t be that bad, right? Go big or go home.”

“No need for worry. It causes wrinkles and nobody wants those,” she spoke, wrinkling her nose. “But seriously, I’m perfectly fine. I like to think I have a decent head on my shoulders, so I know better than to get trashed first thing at any party. Right,” she agreed with a nod, making small waves with the water by trailing her hands through it. Nova had to admit that his answer to her question was not what she had been expecting. She didn’t even have to ask what he meant by become one with each other because the answer was relatively obvious. “I feel like that’s a severe understatement,” she replied after a beat of silence, referring to his statement about the parties not being as tame as the bonfire. Her laugh echoed his, and there was no judgement in it. “Now everything you said at the cafe makes so much more sense,” she admitted and another laugh followed her words.
“I try not to, but I guess it’s just instinct. Sometimes a guy’s gotta take care of people. Must just be something I was born with. I’m a mother hen, what can I say?” he shrugged and chuckled, licking his lips. While he certainly was the type to look out for people, he wasn’t always particularly overbearing. Really, he just wanted to see people turn out happy and safe. “Yeah, well,” he waved a hand, ducking his head slightly. He wasn’t ashamed of what he did, or the decisions he made to get there. But Apollo knew people, and he knew he’d be judged if he was completely honest. Even here in California, where you could do practically anything, being in a perceived sex cult, was a little extreme. “Don’t let that fool you, though. I can be pretty boring.”

“Fair.” He concurred thoughtfully. It’s a small relief when Landon realizes he isn’t being approached by a complete stranger, though his familiarity with Apollo certainly changed his approach to the situation. “I’m here to offer something a little more…stimulating .” He countered a moment later, the words coming out in the form of a deep tease, his mouth now turned up into a loose, malicious grin. “You know, since it’s too dark out here to build sandcastles.”
“I reckon you’re right about that,” Apollo offered a crooked smile of his own, eyes narrowed almost playfully. Although he was kind and flirted with nearly everyone, there was always something that came along easier when he was flirting with another guy. Perhaps it was just more exciting for him. “There’s plenty of kinds of stimulation,” he pointed out, taking a long drag from the cigarette. “Which kind are you offering?”

”Once you’ve seen a beach, you’ve seen them all.” Vivian replied simply, her hand rose as if to brush the details aside. “Maybe.” She shrugged, fully aware of how she must’ve been coming off. “Maybe not. But at least the alcohol makes me think I’m having a good time. A girl never gets tired of playing pretend.” Her eyes lingered on Apollo before the ocean took her attention. The stars were hitting the water in a way that was almost mesmerizing. “What am I supposed to do? Sit down and talk politics?”
“Hey, drink away, if you can find it.” He shrugged. He didn’t care either way what most people did. As far as he was concerned, people were going to do whatever they pleased, however they pleased, and there was no need for him to stand in the way. Apollo hummed, watching as her eyes shifted towards the water, and he turned as well. “You could. Could go for a swim, too. That’s what I planned on doing. Night swims are a whole lot better, if you ask me.”

“Well, that’s a relief,” she smiled to herself, “I think I might try it. It’s a little bit… yeah.” Shaking her head, she knew she was blushing even through the darkening evening. “You, uh, wanna go… with me?”
Apollo couldn’t help but tease her a little, shifting to stand and brush some of the sand off of his trunks. “Scared to go alone?” he chuckled, wiggling his eyebrows. It was all in good fun, honestly. He didn’t mind accompanying her at all. “Seriously, though. I don’t mind at all.”

“And what can I do for you?” Landon asked the individual approaching him, his words both casual and suggestive. Of course in a setting like this, mild intoxication would ensue. But his presence at the bonfire was, more than anything, a business venture. Inebriated adults always made bad decisions. “The bar is that way, but if you’re looking for something a little more fun, just say the word.”
Apollo was nowhere near inebriated, but he was sure he’d recognized the dark-haired male. He approached carefully, cigarette dangling from his lips as he offered a smile. “I actually don’t drink much,” he shrugged, blowing a plume of smoke to the side. He couldn’t help but chuckle at the proposition, shaking his head slightly. “What are you offering, is the question.”

preachermichael:
( @anothcrapollo )
michael stared blankly out into the sea, a bit a ways from the bonfire. the heat had been too much and the dancing flames had begun mocking him. that along with being around so much alcohol (and probably other substance as well) had required a quieter, darker retreat along the beach, once that only allowed for the sound of the waves to calm his mind. however, he was sure he heard steps and for the third time he looked fervently over his shoulder, spotting the barista he’d oddly approached the other day. “god, no …” he whispered, terrified of making a fool of himself.
Apollo had wandered out of the water and back to where he’d tossed his things, hidden in the dark. He’d plucked a cigarette from the pile and lit it up, placing his hearing aids back in carefully after toweling off with his shirt. He hadn’t expected anyone else to wander too far away from the bonfire, but he was somewhat surprised to see the preacher he’d run into the other day. The younger male waved a hand in greeting, offering a smile as he blew smoke from the corner of his mouth.
