I’m elated to tell you that my 9th studio album, and folklore’s sister record, will be out tonight at midnight eastern. It’s called evermore. To put it plainly, we just couldn’t stop writing songs. To try and put it more poetically, it feels like we were standing on the edge of the folklorian woods and had a choice: to turn and go back or to travel further into the forest of this music. We chose to wander deeper in. I’ve never done this before. In the past I’ve always treated albums as one-off eras and moved onto planning the next one after an album was released. There was something different with folklore. In making it, I felt less like I was departing and more like I was returning. I loved the escapism I found in these imaginary/not imaginary tales. I loved the ways you welcomed the dreamscapes and tragedies and epic tales of love lost and found into your lives. So I just kept writing them. And I loved creating these songs with Aaron Dessner, Jack Antonoff, WB, and Justin Vernon. We’ve also welcomed some new (and longtime) friends to our musical kitchen table this time around…

Aiming for happiness when you’ve been sad for such a long time, can be scary. You don’t remember what being happy, or even content, feel like. It’s ok to be scared of the unknown; most people are. You will feel joy someday, and then you’re going to panic because you’re not used to it. But each time, you’re getting closer to happiness, and sooner or later you’ll get familiar with that wonderful feeling, and you won’t be scared anymore.

But how can you lose someone who was never actually “yours”? Well, just trust that other person with your deepest personal secrets. Let them tell you that they will be different. That they will be there, even on the darkest nights (and trust me, there are dark nights - a lot). Then get ghosted and ignored.

As someone with anxiety. Please dont ghost people. Its abusive. It hurts. Eventually I will figure out how I hurt you and that hurts me even more. It makes me remember only pain when things would end up differently if you had just told me. I'd forgive you. I'd forgive myself. I'd change myself fir the better.

But ghosting doesnt help. It just hurts. And as an autistic, it happens a lot and it still hurts worse.

So if I upset you, please tell me. Just tell me.
