Expectations vs Reality of College Life

What was in your mind when you heard about college students? Diligent student, organization life, assignments, well it is true. Someone said that when you enter a college, that is when your life begins and that is the time when you will grow with your own will. So at that time I was having expectations about college life, a beautiful expectation. And here I am gonna share with you about some expectations and reality of becoming a college student based on my own experience. 

We are gonna talk about the expectations and then we are gonna go straight to the reality. 

Expectation number 1 : maybe many of you and me of course, think that college life will be a special time in our life. 

Reality : Well it is true that college life is a special moment in our life. Because in college, you can meet with another person outside your hometown, maybe you can make a friend with someone that has a different city with you or maybe a different province or even country. 

Expectation number 2 : we can choose our own schedule and our own subject.

Reality : It is true that you can manage your own schedule but sometimes there are some people that get overwhelmed by their own schedule since they have a part-time job, organizations, and other reasons. 

Expectation number 3 : hanging out with friends and maybe doing assignments together. 

Reality : of course you can do that if you have money and if you have time for it. Because in college you have to manage your money properly, especially if you are living alone without your family when you are suddenly forced to live alone. And you have to remember about your own schedule. 

Expectation number 4 : college life will be more exciting than high school, they said. 

Reality : college life will be more exciting than highschool. In some moments, yes college will be more exciting than highschool, but the assignments and homework will be more challenging than in high school, individual assignments, group projects, organizations tasks, you have to remember that. 

Expectation number 5 :you may be expecting daily outfits that you want to be fashionable in college. 

Reality : actually it depends on the person itself. If you can manage to prepare more early than you can go to university with your best style, but if you can’t manage your time well then say goodbye to your best outfit. Especially when you have to stay up late to work on assignment or organization tasks, that is the moment when you go to college without thinking about your outfit as long as you dress up properly. 

Final expectation (one of the most popular) : Independent, brave, and happy college student.

Reality : Feel homesick.

In conclusion, all people may have expectations on college life. But when expectations exist, reality will exist as well. In college you can manage your own schedule, you can have friends from different cities as you, and other expectations. Always remember that reality exists, college life may be fun but there are more challenging moments as well. It depends on how you overcome the college difficulties, how you prepare yourself to fight it.  Actually I suggest you just enjoy your college life, make friends, have a lot of experiences, be serious but don’t be too serious.
