Improvement 

For my blog, there are several things to improve.

 

First, the accuracy. My friend found out that there are some careless grammatical errors, such as the tense, I forgot to use past tense. Also, there are some spelling mistakes.

 

Secondly, the clarity, after my friend read, the blog is mostly clear, but still there are several sentences that are unclear, and I need to rewrite. Also, my heading is not shape enough, which she suggested me to bold and increase the font size.

 

Third, appropriacy, they think my blogs are informative and the language I use is appropriate for audiences, not too formal but suitable for blog.

Last, persuasiveness, my friend gave me my blog can give more examples and ask more rhetorical questions which can be more attractive. Also, they asked me to add more photos. 

 

After listening to my friend's advice, I made the following improvements. I corrected my grammar mistakes and spelling errors. I corrected some of my sentence structure and made it more clear. Also, I bold my heading. Lastly, I added more examples and added some pictures to attract my audience. Making this blog is fun. It helped me a lot in different ways, the writing, speaking also reading skills. This is such a great experience.

Have you ever thought that your data would be stolen by someone online? Have you ever thought of your personal data safe in the technical world? Have you ever thought of you being listened to by someone while you are using your phone? Nowadays, advance information brings us so many conveniences. It helps us do certain things, such as online booking, connecting with friends and family. In 2020, there will be up to 4000 complaints about cybercrime and the amount of money involved is up to HK$2.96 billon, which is a huge amount. So how can you be safe online?

First, change your passwords from time to time. Also, make sure your passwords are complicated which are not easy to guess. Second, don’t open any unsecured or unauthorised link. Last, do not give any personal details to the insecurity pages. Hope you guys are safe online.

In our social media post, we used rule of 3 and rhetorical questions at the very beginning which to raise the audience awareness and attention to our post. We also used logos to give the cybercrime statistics to let the audience know how serious the problem is. I think creating this post can let me learn how to write in a persuasive way. Also, I think our post can really attract people to be concerned about their data privacy and know how to be safe online, protecting their personal data. Writing a post can improve my writing skills and my persuasive skills as being an engineer. These skills are also useful. Sometimes we may be required to write a log sheet to report what we did, so writing skills are also important to us. This part of blog remind me from a book I read before: the circle. This book is about data privacy in social media. A girl worked in a social media company which can get all the customers data and do analysis. However, she found out that she start losing her data and spilling out other data. After she realised that she  started make a change and protect the whole world data.

Software review 

The BBC Learning English is really useful for learning English every day. In the app, there are many different programmes. In daily practice, there is everyday English, business English, learning with the news and learning with drama. It will teach the use of the words and provide some quizzes for you to test. Also, in the language skills part, there are pronunciation, grammar and vocabulary. This section can improve your basic knowledge of English. It is the same as the daily practice part. It will provide a quiz for you after each chapter which can help you to know how much you have learnt. 

 

I think the best thing about the app is I can learn English with news. As you know in the newspaper, there may be many difficult sentences which are hard to understand. In the app, it will tell you the meaning of the sentence and it will show you how you can use it in your daily life. 

 

This app is really good for people who are busy but want to improve their English. You can learn during your trip to school or work. I hope you all will enjoy using this app to learn English.

Video 

 am an aviation engineering student. In my video I talked about the importance of data privacy in the aviation industry. The digital literacy involved is data privacy and the persuasive message is to let more people know what the aviation industry data privacy is, why is it important to aviation and how to protect it.

 

Making this video, I learnt more about data privacy in the aviation industry. In the aviation industry, data privacy is not only important to airplanes, airlines. It is also important to passages. To protect the data privacy of the aviation industry, there are also some laws. I also learnt how to edit my video, such as trimming, adding effects, controlling the volume etc. I also learnt how to tell the concept to people more interesting rather than just reading aloud the script. Moreover, I also improved my English speaking skills. Reading more clearly and fluently. 

 

For the video taking part, I decided to separate into different parts which I can easily retake rather than retake the whole video. I think this is a good way to take videos as it doesn’t waste for retaking. And for the video editing part, as this is my first time making a video, so this may take a longer time than the video taking part. I used iMovie as the video editor. There are different buttons for different uses. At first, I didn’t know what their uses were respectively, so I searched online and watched some tutorial videos which taught me the basics working principle. However, for the content part, I learnt them by reading articles online and watching videos on YouTube. 

 

In the future, we can import some videos on airplanes which can teach people more about data privacy, how to protect their personal data, what they need to be careful about on the internet. This can also enhance my knowledge of my major. 

 

However, making videos also helped me with my speaking skills and my body language. While making my video, I practiced many times to make my video better. Moreover, it taught me how to use the iMovie application. It was a meaningful experience for me.

Analysis of someone else’s video

I am an engineering student, to have a better career life, I watched a video which talking about the aviation industry in the next 100 years.

 

Started in 2020, COVID-19 has affected many industries, especially in aviation. The fights were suspended. Will the aviation industry be affected in the future or will they have a better future, let’s see. 

 

In the past 40 years, engineers chose to prioritise making travelling by air more convenient, efficient, and available to the masses. However, by the end of 2010, the engineer found a way to achieve net zero for the aviation industry which to reach a state of zero greenhouse gas emissions. Huge industry players such as airbus, Boeing and Nasa etc. are exploring sustainable propulsion technology – fuelling aircraft with renewable energy sources. For example, solar and wind power. In addition, they also aim to make the airplane lighter. 

 

As the time goes by, there is an expectation that the number of passengers in 2037 will be double to 2919 4.6 billion. However, in early 2020 the COVID-19 halted the aviation industry. There was the worst downturn in the entire history of aviation. The global passenger traffic has reduced to levels last seen in 1999. Luckily, the COVID-19 didn’t distract the people doing the research. In 2020, the airbus revealed three concepts for the world’s first zero emission commercial aircraft and enter service by 2035.

 

The main concern of the engineers is can they reach the goal of the Paris climate agreement on time and when can they really get to zero emissions. Although we don’t know about the future, the engineers believe if the aviation industry partners and government work together, they can utilise all the possible short and long term solutions and reach the goal by 2050.

 

This video told me more about the future of my major. I am also going to make a video about the importance of data privacy in the aviation industry. Though this video is not related to my topic but still this can enhance my knowledge of the aviation industry future.

Visualising data  

My group is studying the ocean plastics waste in our world, and we were interested in finding out how the rich countries contribute by exporting their waste overseas. 

In Our World in Data, we found 3 charts, which show the ocean plastic waste exported from all around the world high in come countries and the imported in lower-middle countries. 

From 2007 to 2010, the plastic waste export from high income countries and the world kept increasing. Then, from 2010 - 2015, the data fluctuated between 10.47 million t to 13.1 million for high income countries and 14.82 million t to 12.62 million in the world. However, this phenomenon changed from 2015, the plastic waste exports kept decreasing from 12.43 million t to 2021 3.96 million t in high income countries. For the waste in the world, decreased from 2015 13.75 million t to 2021 4.45 million t.  

And for the plastic waste import, we chose the lower-middle income countries, Vietnam, and Indonesia. For Vietnam from 20017 to 2021, the plastic waste import kept increasing from 80,043 t to328,875 t. In Indonesia, the kept increasing from 2007 312 t to 2018 320,519 t. However, it started going down from 2018 till 2021 164,522 t. For the total in lower-middle income countries, the data between 2007 to 2016 were unstable. They go up and down but in total they have a slight increase. However, starting from 2016 the plastics waste import has a huge increase from 495,606 t till 2019 1.04 million t. And starting from 2019 the import decreases quickly to 2021 410,177 t.

 

We found out that the ocean plastic waste has started to decrease in the last few years. However, high income countries are reducing their plastic waste by importing the waste to some lower income countries or lower-middle income countries. Therefore, the imports of plastic waste in lower income countries and lower-middle income countries were high in the past. In these few years, many countries, especially higher income countries, started promoting environmental protection, encouraging people to follow the 4R rule: reuse, reduce, recycle, replace. The result can reduce plastic waste. 

From this survey, we learnt how to read the data and do the analysis. We also know more about the plastic wastes in our world.

Podcast 

I chose the topic of the data privacy and security and introduced the news of Blackpink’s Jennie and BTS V, which their personal photos were published by the hacker. I also talked about how to protect our personal datas and what are my comments about the news. 

 

I have learnt how to make a podcast from finding the topics till publishing the podcast. I also learnt more about data privacy and security. 

 

While making my podcast, I learnt how to edit my recording by using Audacity. First, I needed to find a music for my introduction and add it after editing, such as how to fade out it, cut it into a proper duration. Then, I tried several times to read the script, like the intonation, tone, and speed etc. During the editing, I also faced some problems, such as I did not know how to replace my recording. I searched online, watched some tutorials on YouTube. Also, I did not know what music is suitable for a podcast, so I tried listening to some podcasts and getting some ideas. 

 

Knowing how to make a podcast has taught me a lot. Although I am an engineer student, a podcast may also be useful to me. It helped me train my speaking as I need to keep recording different parts till I am satisfied with that. Also, listening to podcasts also trains my listening. Moreover, before recording, I was required to write a script. It also improved my writing skills.

However, learning one more skill can also make myself have better preparation in the future which may be needed in one day.

 

Besides the technical skills, during making this podcast I learnt more about data privacy and security such as how to protect our data properly and figure out if the website or applications are safe. Also, what are the effects of if the data been stolen by hackers? These are useful and important in our daily life as nowadays we always upload our personal data onto the internet such as iCloud, Google etc. As the internet is more common, if we do not protect our data properly. It will be very dangerous. 

 

I am very pleased that I have such a chance to make a podcast by myself and learn more about data privacy and security. I hope I can have more chances to make podcasts and learn more about data privacy and security, and one day I can teach people using my knowledge and experience.

The original image

This image shows two of my favourite singers. This image was taken by my friend Anson Yan in 2022 mirror concert. It is from her tumblr account (ansonycl) where she always post photos taken by her. The original photo was so dark and the two people were so small. Also the people not sharp enough which make the photo look dark and not clear.   

The improved image 

I used photoshop to improve the photo. In the improved version, I increased the exposure, contrast, whites and blacks. Also I decreased the highlight and shadows which to make the photo look lighter. To make the photo look sharper, I increased the sharpen also reduced the luminance noise and the colour noise. Moreover, to make the photo look more clear, I increased the texture and dehaze. At last, I cropped the photo which to remove the extra area and focus on the two main characters only. 

Overall, the photo after editing it become lighter and sharper, also the the photo look more clear.

Reflection

This is not my first time manipulating image but this is the first time I using other photo to do manipulation. This time I try some more function then before. Before that, I used to only increase light to make it lighter, but I tried more function like contrast, exposure. Actually, this photo also means a lot to me. As the photographer is my friend and it was the first time we watch concert together. After manipulation the image really improved a lot. The image became more clear, sharply and lighter. It can keep as a good memory to record our first concert. 

However, manipulation image have pros which to improve the images and make it look better. Some of the KOL also try to make themselves look more pretty and fit to increase their followers but there are cons. Some of the criminals manipulate image to make the fake news which to scam others and get money from the victims. Also, some of the editors just manipulate the image without giving the photographer credit. Moreover, some of them even destroy the original image by manipulation which make the image lose its feature. 

Therefore, manipulation image is a good way to improve the image but there are also some cons.

Hello, I am Yan Cheuk Lam and everyone call me Anson or Cheuk Lam. In the coming story, it is all about me.

I born in Hong Kong. In my growth, I spent most of the time with my family in Hong Kong Island. When I was small, I lived with my grandparents in Causeway Bay. Our flat was not too big, but it’s enough for us. However, after I got into primary school I moved to Chai Wan and lived with my parents. My parents worked hard to provide me a better life, I also want to give them a better life and let them enjoyed their entire life which no need to worry about me and have fun.

Beside my parents, I also have two dogs, Chocolate and Toffee. They are toy poodle in brown colour. They are my birthday present by my grandmother when I was 11 years old. I enjoy playing with them in my free times.

In my free times, I love hanging out with my friends. I also loving playing badminton, swimming, cycling, and running. Moreover, I loving playing piano and listening to musics.

At school, I was good at mathematics and science but I was worst in language so after DSE I went to HKCC studied for aircraft services engineering. And now I am studying aviation engineering in PolyU. In addition I am taking a HKAR-147 course. 

I am good at calculus, playing sports and musical instruments. In a team, I am the group leader as I am good at communicating with others and I am also good at solving problems. Moreover, I also love making people happy and I loving eating too so I always post my daily life on my page to share happy to others. 

After graduate I want to become an aviation engineer or a pilot. I want to give my parents a better life and let them being proud of me. I also want to travel around the world with my family and friends.
