I feel like a lot of TCOMC adaptations miss the point by making Morcerf cheat on Mercedes or be a bad father. Because in the book, the main reasons why Morcerf is a bad person are

He had Dantes imprisoned because he wanted to marry Mercedes.

He did some deeply awful colonialist stuff, resulting in the deaths of dozens, and the orphaning and enslavement of a young girl.

The whole point of his character is that a person can be a loving husband and father, AND have committed atrocities. So many adaptations ignore that nuance in favour of making him a clear-cut villain.

the first time i saw this scene i laughed for a good ten minutes. terrence is simply BRILLIANT here. what a beautiful masterful delivery of lines and the acting is superb. oh my GOD i love him so much
