Lateral Surveillance
This is surveillance we do of other people which can be are friends and family members. Lateral surveillance is easer to do today than every before thanks to social media. With the help of Twitter, Facebook, Snapchat, and Instagram you can keep informed about all the events in a persons like as look if they are active on social media. Lateral surveillance desensitises people from government/commercial surveillance because it makes us use to people watching us. For example on Twitter the whole world can see your tweets so what different does it come if McDonalds and Trudeau can see them too.

Fan Fiction
Fan fiction is fan created stories and images that are based off media texts such as television shows and books. Fan fiction is becoming very popular with the success of 50 Shades of Grey which started off as Twilight fan fiction as well as Amazon selling fan fiction stories on their website and app. I use to create fan fiction in grade 3. In grade 3 I got my hands on a Dragon Ball Z book filled with characters from the show and what I would do is trace the pictures in the book and colour the characters black. My roommate does something similar with Dragon Ball Z characters but he doesn't just track the pictures he full out draws black versions of the characters and gives them new names.

Crowd Sourcing
Crowd sourcing is something I use often. Crowd sourcing is when people pool together their knowledge on a specific topic. I frequently use Wikipedia to get more information on anime shows I watch because they are so large and have hundreds of episodes. I also use it before I watch a show to get a feeling of the show so I know if I will like it or not. Crowd sourcing in this scene as it is fans that upload the information about these shows and who are better experts of a show besides the fans that watch it religiously.

Fan Activism
Fan activism is the result of fans coming together to see chances in a particular aspect of the media industry. An example of fan activism is Fans4Writers. This group of fans came together with writers to strike during the 2007 Writers Guild of America strike. Fans4Writers solicited financial support for its activities, which included bringing food to picket lines and skywriting messages of support at the Rose Bowl. This support by the fans lead to many chances in the writing industry and the signing of a new contract that was more favorable with writers.

My Definition of a fan
A fan is a person that is emotional connected to a media a text such as a movie, television, or video game. Fans actively take part in consuming these texts and can show their enthusiasm in a variety of ways, such as by promoting the object of their interest on social media. In today’s society fans are actively participating in the creation of media in which they are fans of. This can be anything from fan fiction to fans sending in videos that they hope will be showed in the next episode of a TV show they watch.

In class activity Conversion
When I was growing up there was two really popular shows that would air at 4pm Monday to Friday and they were called Yu-Gi-Oh and Beyblade. I watched these shows almost everyday because if you missed it there was no way to watch it again and the only way to know what happened was to ask your friend at school. My social capital was high when it came to these two shows because as I said before I hardly ever missed an episode do to the fact that during the time it air my mom wouldn't be home so I could do what ever I wanted. I became that kid that knew some much about Yu-Gi-Oh and Beyblade and I would get to school early so I could meet up with my friends so we could talk about yesterdays episode as well as have a Beyblade battle.

In class activity Appropriation
My Reflection: The first big piece of technology was the PlayStation 2. I wanted the PlayStation because a lot of my friends had it and the commercials made it look so cool. So I asked my mom to get it for me for Christmas and being the awesome mother she is she got it for me.
My lecture neighbour Thomas: “I really wanted the blue ipod nao so I could use it while I was skiing. My mom got it for me for Christmas and I used it for what I wanted it for.”

In class activity Objectification
For me a television in the living room is a must. If the living room doesn’t have a television, it is an incomplete living room and it feels awkward when one isn't there. However in my opinion television in the washroom is out of place but in my experiences it was useful because if you are at a sports bar you never miss a second of the game even when you go to the bathroom.
My neighbor in lecture Thomas doesn't believe a television belongs in the living room. He told me during the activity that in his home there is no television in the living room because every one in his house has one in there room. He also told me that the living room is a place were him and his family get together and talk, play board games and do other activates like that.
I believe we have different views because are family dynamics are different. He comes from a home with a full family where I only live with my mother. In my home television is like another person so your not lonely where as in Thomas’ home they don't need television for that because they have a bigger family.

High Holiday
One of the most notable high holidays in my life time was when Obama was first elected President and inaugurated on January 20, 2009. At the time I was in school and my teacher stopped the class from the work we were doing to play a live stream of Obama being sworn in. When the ceremony was over she went around and asked the class why it was so significant, I was only in grade 8 but I knew the answer. After taking the answers from a few students my teacher went ahead and gave us a brief history lesson on black people and human rights. This high holiday was a great example of how high holidays can bring people together in a mediated environment to look at how we are doing as a whole in society because a huge step was made that day in the direction of equality.

Is Justin Trudeau Ready
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gLX7F44Htsw
The link above leads to a Conservative attack ad stating that Justin Trudeau is not ready to be Prime Minster of Canada. The goal of this ad is to change the opinion of citizens that want to vote Liberal. Now to say that this ad was effective is arguable considering the outcome of the election. But in my experience I do know it had an effect on my mother. I know this because I had a conversation with her about who she wanted to vote for and she told me she wasn’t sure about Trudeau because of what they are saying about him on the TV. My mother just like a lot of Caribbean women around her age are very susceptible to what they see on TV. What this means is that these women are easily effected by media messages. It is an example of how television can shape peoples ideas about topics such as politics and it happens simply because many people see television as a trusted sources of information.

Lamar Odom’s story
http://perezhilton.com/category/lamar-odom/#.ViadDH7nuUk
http://www.cnn.com/2015/10/19/us/lamar-odom-condition/
The two links posted above are about Lamar Odom being found unconscious in a brothel. This topic has been very popular on social media for the last couple of weeks. Now these two links are clear examples of Framing in terms of the theory Agenda Setting. One focuses on  Khloe Kardashian while the other focuses on the owner of the brothel. Both talk very little about how Lamar Odom is really doing and the fact that he is a two time NBA Champion. The result of this is many people tuning in to hear about this story think that Lamar Odom is just Khole Kardashian’s drugged up ex-husband. This is because framing has the apply to focus on a certain part of any particular story while leaving out other parts of the story. Framing then has the able to shape audience audience on topics such as politics and more.

Audience interaction reflection
Last week for Thanks Giving my family got together to watch the Blue Jays game. All the men in the house gathered at the downstairs living room to get away from to women and to watch the game on a brand new 80inch television set. Now I’m not a fan of baseball but I do find gratifications from watching it and that is being with my family and having a good time. On the other hand the gratification my brother is receiving from the game is different from my own because he is a huge baseball fan and so the gratification he is receiving is the enjoyment of watching the game he loves. All of us in the living room at that time are audience members of the Blue Jays game but at the same time each person can be receiving their own gratification. This is an example of how several people can but audience members of one think but each person can use it for something different.

Audience’s in the US election
http://www.worldstarhiphop.com/videos/video.php?v=wshh7SnYMA1mx5462YMJ
The link that has been posted leads to a video of Donald Trump allowing a woman to come on stage and show her appreciation for his campaign. By allowing the woman who is just another member of the audience to come on stage and be apart of his speech Donald Trump breaks the fourth wall in similar ways that is being done on television shows like Don’t Forget the Lyrics. This type of audience interaction is also similar as to what has been discussed about Elizabeth audiences and the way they would come on stage and be rowdy. In today’s media the fourth wall is being broken more often and audience members are often being encourage to apart of the contented being shown.
