Amsterdam tram stop

This is the standard "bench" at Amsterdam tram stops. It isn't just impossible to "sit" on it, but it's completely useless if you're taller or shorter than average (like, for example, if you're a child).

The Mosquito anti-teen repellent

Mr. Stapleton invented The Mosquito anti-teen repellent out of a need to keep loitering teenagers away from storefronts. It operates by emitting high-frequency tone(s) that are outside the normal hearing range of adults.

No bark collar

The Dogtra No Bark collar uses mid-high range power and has a variable intensity dial to accommodate your pets. With seven different intensity setting, the YS-500 can be used on timid as well as stubborn pets to control barking.
Intensity of what, exactly? It's explained in the manual:
This product has been specifically designed to prevent your dog from barking excessively. It automatically emits electrical stimulation in response to the dog’s barking.

Thumbcuffs

Nasty variation on the classic handcuffs, thumbcuffs hurt more and they're probably even cheaper to make. On top the classic metal model, below the new and improved plastic version. (Special thanks to EC)

Razor wire

Probably the most obvious anti-human design, the Razor wire (or barbed tape) replaced the classic barbed wire in the late 60es. This is design at its nastiest: "The multiple blades of a razor wire fence are designed to inflict serious cuts on anyone attempting to climb through and therefore have a strong psychological deterrent effect. Razor wire contains a core hardened steel strip that is often under tension, so if cut, it strikes the cutter." (from Wikipedia)

Designed to displease
Design is more and more employed to displease humans, from barbed wire to anti-homeless benches. Here's where we collect pictures of objects and the names of the designers that distinguish themselves in this particular area. Future plans include an annual prize for "the most effectively evil and unpleasant design of the year".
