His face was bright red. She... liked his appearance? But why? He was ugly and everyone knew it! Maybe she was just being nice... Or even just being cruel. "I-I... I'm not cute... I-I'm hideous..." He looked down at his feet, fidgeting slightly, "I-I'm ugly and everyone knows it..."
When his face was revealed it was…well, cute. At least to her. “Ya don’ look bad, Mattie. I think ya look cute!” She smiled sweetly and ruffled his hair, perhaps childishly. She didn’t think he looked bad at all! “Why do ya think ya don’ look good?”

The boy let out a gasp as his face was revealed, his light blond locks falling messily on his shoulders. He stared at her for several uncomfortable moments, his blue-violet irises constricted from the shock as they stared through the clear lenses of his rounded glasses. "...Y-You just..."
“Not a sigh’ t’ see..? I betcha look fine.” Was he self-conscious? It seemed like it. Before he had time to stop her, she pulled the bag off his head. “See, ya look fine.”
