When I was 5...

When I was five I went to go see Disney on Ice and the Little Einsteins were there.

I fell in love with the “leader guy with a wand” and I wanted to be just like him.

I got this baton that night. I brought the baton everywhere with me. I waved every time there was music. I wanted to wave the baton forever.

As the years went on I forgot about the baton and pursued sports and other extra circulars.

Fast forward to my first year of marching band. I played the clarinet and I loved it, but I wasn’t the healthiest kid. I left band camp in an ambulance, had a life-threatening asthma attack at one competition, and a seizure at another. I was afraid I was going to have to quit.

Freshman year, I begged my doctor to let me march again. I swore up and down that I wouldn’t play any other sport and would take all my medication if I could march. She agreed.

I went to band camp. I was going to play the tenor sax, but got sent home the second day because I couldn’t breathe. I tried everything: medication, shots, I even wore a mask to camp. 

At the end of the week I went to my band director in tears. I told him that I didn’t think I could do it. That I would hold the band back. I didn’t want to quit, but I wanted the band to succeed

He convinced me to come the next week and try to march. I did. I ended up just watching the band rehearse because I didn’t have the oxygen to march and play at the same time. 

While I sat out the Visual Tech taught me to conduct. I practiced all day. When the Drum Major conducted, so did I. He went and talked to my Band Director without my knowledge that night.

The next morning I came to camp, ready to give up. If I couldn’t march and play at the same time, how could I be in the band.

The band director called me up onto the scaffolding. He asked me if I would like to become the assistant Drum Major for the band. He told me the band had grown, and that now they needed another Drum Major.

I was ecstatic!

So now, 10 years after I decided that I wanted to be “the leader guy with a stick” I am the Assistant Drum Major to the highschool band. 

I have come full circle, and I could not be happier.

Ok guys, it’s first time I drew smth THAT big, so need to say I was pretty tired coloring this picture (and I failed with it, haha). Anyway it was a nice experience for me and I don’t regret it. Hope you will like it!

Argen magiced her hair away for the summer, cuz nobody likes a constantly damp neck aaand I really wanted to see her in the ICONIc Bisexual haircut. so I drew this after a half-assed sketch where i just tacked it onto an old sketch, so please if you want to write a response for ur apprentice or just ignore that and enjoy the new look for a while.

ever since i downloaded my first word document i have been obsessed with files

In Japanese, they don’t say “moon,” they say “tsuki,” which literally translates to “moon,” and I think that’s how language works.

sometimes i forget how many times i’ve picked myself off the floor, how many times i’ve washed away smudgy makeup and put myself to bed. how many times i’ve said no to something unhealthy. said yes to something good. how many times i’ve treated myself with kindness and patience. i forget how many times i’ve tended to wounds and made peace with my own anger. if i was taking care of a body that was not my own, i’d believe i was doing everything i could. so here’s to remembering that i’m doing the best i can.
