I'm taking AP US History and AP English Language this upcoming year and I'm a bit nervous at the workload. I may also have Dual Enrollment Psychology. My friends who have taken it all say I'll be fine, I just can't slack off. Any advice?
I completely agree with your friends. Slacking off is literally the biggest detriment of any AP student because you lose track of how much work you have and then you end up continuously falling behind. Just remain focused and keep up with your work and you should be absolutely fine!
Best of luck!!

did you take AP Chem? its my second week in the class and i understand absolutely nothing. super stressed. stoich is not my strong point ://
I did, and stoich was hard for me at first too, but try and try until you succeed was my mantra! It’s not that difficult once you get the hang of it, it’s just a matter of getting to that point. Buy an AP practice book (or 2) and use that as supplementary material alongside your class textbook or whatever else you’re using in class. Having extra examples and practice questions will definitely help you in getting more into the subject and getting the hang of it.
Best of luck!!!

is 4 APs as a junior a bad idea
Not at all! As long as you are willing to work hard and do all the work that is involved with being in that many AP classes then 4, or even 5, any year isn’t a bad idea. If they are subjects that you’re interested in it’ll be a great experience. But if you’re only taking them to look good on college applications and you think they’ll make you miserable, then it’s not worth the struggle and stress for sure.

What are your thoughts on self-studying any of these? My school doesn't offer them and they definitely play to my interests and future studies in college: AP Stats, AP Calc AB, AP Micro/Macro, AP Comparative Gov, (maybe) APUSH.
Okay. The only one I took was AP Calc A/B, but the advice I’m going to give is for any of these cause I believe it applies whether or not I’ve taken them.I do NOT recommend self-teaching and self-studying for any, especially not all, of these exams. HOWEVER, that doesn’t mean I’m right. Personally, I would not even remotely feel comfortable self-teaching/studying these to myself without having a classroom setting for more information and other students who I could work with to learn more.If you are really good at math, for instance, and really know your stuff about calc, maybe you can handle it. I’m awful t math and bombed calc, which is likely why I’d never recommend it to anyone. I still don’t recommend trying to take all these exams, regardless, because that’s way too many and you will likely feel super overwhelmed. Seeing as how your school doesn’t offer them, but you think they would help you, perhaps just pick one or two to focus on - those that may be the most useful - and it may be totally fine and will actually benefit you a lot. But also, see if any of your teachers at our school who teach related subjects would be able to give you some helpafter school every once in a while if you need it. And also see if any other students would be interested in taking them as well so you can work together. And of course, I always recommend getting review books and taking those practice tests! Whatever you decide anon, good luck!
Keep Calm and Study On!! :)

Do you have any recommendations for preparing AP Psychology?
Definitely get a Review book! From my experience, the review book (I used 5 steps to a 5) was very similar to the exam.I also believe there were diagrams on mine, so definitely study those. Psych is very information heavy, so do your reading and you will be way better off!

So I am going to be a sophomore and I am going to take my first AP classes. I'm starting off with AP psychology and AP government. Should I take more? Any tips?
In my opinion, taking 2 AP’s as a sophomore is probably a good start. Don’t start out with too many at once or you’ll probably want to cry.... constantly.
Take a gander through the blog. There’s a ton of really helpful tips that might help you out a lot.
Rule #1: Keep Calm and Study On!! :D
Good luck!!!!

Hi! So I am taking my first AP courses this year. I'm taking Bio, Psych, and Spanish. While I'm obviously nervous about all of them as this is my first time, I'm most worried about Bio. I understand genetics, evolution, and ecology really well, but I suck at anything having to do with cells and chemistry. Because of this, I'm not looking forward to first semester. Do you have any general study tips for learning units that just don't seem to click as well?
While I can’t speak to study tips regarding Bio specifically, since I didn’t take it at AP level, in general I have a few tricks I use to help me better grasp things that I’m just not getting.
For one, I reread chapters like there’s no tomorrow. I repeat it to myself to try to force myself to comprehend it.
I also take notes on sections, and rewrite them 2-3 times. That helps when it comes to memorizing key concepts.
For some subjects [this may help in bio] I do practice quizzes that I find online or in texts. Some textbooks have them, and all AP review books have them as well.
Finally, I ask for help. I ask friends to study with me and/or quiz me, and I ask teachers/professors for additional notes/guidance or tips because they know better than anyone what I should be learning and how to get me to understand it if I’m not from the get go.
Hopefully this helps you out.
Best of luck to you!!

How was AP world history? I took human geography but i know from what i heard that world is harder because of the pace. how did u handle it?
I never took AP World unfortunately [don’t even think my school offered it actually] so I can’t give any tips specific to that course. But a lot of my AP’s were really fast paced. The best general advice I can give to this is to keep up on all the work. Don’t procrastinate or slack off. And if you have to/have time stay after class/school to work with the teacher if you aren’t grasping things or doing well. But if you take notes in class, do the assignments and work at it, I’m sure you’ll be fine despite the pace!!

First of all: I love your blog!!!! Any tips for a first-time AP English and AP Sciencestudent?? Thank you so much :)
Thank you so much!!! :D
For AP English: READ. I don’t care what you read, just READ. Familiarize yourself with a good number of literary texts, and practice analyzing them. This will truly help you come time for the essay. Trust me. I didn’t enjoy reading Crime and Punishment all that much, but I pushed through, did all the assignments, paid attention in class, and that was the text I ended up writing about on the exam. Also, get a review book and practice the MC*. I have a harder time with MC of any kind, but specifically this because I prefer to write things out, so practice really does make perfect!
As for AP Science, let me know which one so I can give more specific advice!
In general though, pay attention in class, close attention. Take detailed notes. And if ou can get a review book early on, follow along with the units/chapters you’re doing in class, and talk to your teacher after class/school to discuss things if you’re having trouble, and ask them to explain it per the review, so it prepares you for the test.
*multiple choice
Hope this helped!!!

I'm so nervous, next year I'm taking calculus AB. ;.;
Trust me, it is not a breeze!I struggled a lot, and I can’t say honestly that I had a lot to show for all the struggle and hard work that I put in throughout the year.
However, if you enjoy a challenge and are willing to push yourself, you can still do well in the course.
I wish you the best of luck for that course and especially that exam.
May the odds be ever in your favor ;]

How hard would you say AP Calculus is? I had 3 C's and one B in Precalculus the entire year and didn't do great on tests and whatnot. Should I go ahead and take AP Calculus or switch to something easier like Stats??
Okay, speaking from my own experience, AP Calc was pretty difficult. I did really well in Honors Pre-Calc, A’s and B’s, so I thought I would do about the same in Calc. No. Calc brought in so many new concepts that were really difficult for me to grasp, and I ended up doing C work at best, and tanking the AP exam. If you’re not doing great in Precalc, I would definitely recommend switching to something simpler, or just taking a lower level Calc class, if offered.
Of course, this is also going to vary based on teacher (I wasn’t a fan of mine) but the same idea should apply. If you aren’t doing awesome in the entry-level, then the AP next level course is going to be a challenge. Also, keep in mind you can’t use a calculator on much of the exam, so that may be a downfall as well.
Good luck in whatever you choose!!!!

I was so shocked this year when I took my AP psych exam, the multiple choice was a breeze and the essays were ridiculously uncomplicated. I wish all exams were that straight forward
Haha, yes!!
That was my favorite of all the AP exams that I took. It was such a breeze for me too and it made me feel so accomplished to get a 5!I definitely agree. If all the exams were that straight forward, there would be a huge increase in average scores! haha
