yorkshire.fossils Here’s one of our golden stones known as “cannon balls”. These rocks are naturally coated with a pyrite (fools gold) layer and so can be polished! It contains an Eleganticeras ammonite and is 185 million years old from Sandsend UK. Yorkshire is the only place in the world that these cannon balls can be found! The bottom half is yet to be polished, though we quite like it how it is.

Dawson-Pitamakin Pass Trail, Glacier National Park
One of the most amazing hikes I’ve ever done. This 19-mike loop in the Two Medicine region climbs up the Continental Divide, passes the beautiful No-Name Lake, and follows the ridge for several miles before descending into the woods to Oldman Lake and return to civilization.

Dirty thunderstorm
A dirty thunderstorm (also volcanic lightning, thunder volcano) is a weather phenomenon that is related to the production of lightning in a volcanic plume.
A study in the journal Science indicated that electrical charges are generated when rock fragments, ash, and ice particles in a volcanic plume collide and produce static charges, just as ice particles collide in regular thunderstorms.
Volcanic eruptions are sometimes accompanied by flashes of lightning. However, this lightning doesn’t descend from storm clouds in the sky. It is generated within the ash cloud spewing from the volcano, in a process called charge separation.
