the thing is that serena gets what is essentially an ending worth for a villain. people will refuse to see it that way because she isn't chained to a commander as a handmaid. but she is forever a refugee, stripped of her voice: she can play no part in any thing ever again. at the core of her, serena wanted power, and the marriage and baby came with it because of her christian upbringing, to be the epitome of a good christian woman. but now that fell away and all she has is a baby, and she's trying to convince herself that it's fine and it's enough because she has a baby and that's all she's ever wanted, right? but her life is empty. there is no june, there is no rita, there is no group of women to fight for.
#she is alone and at the mercy of the people she tried to enslave#people say the parallel shot with the window is supposed to be like shes the same kinda prisoner that june was now but i disagree#i think the parallel shot was the answer to what june was thinking in the beginning#serena put june there infront of the window at the beginning and june put serena infront of that window at the end#june was physically alone but had allies and friends just beyond her reach#serena is physically crowded by other refugees but none of them are people she can call on and she is emotionally alone#i think the ending for serena was good simply because shes in purgatory now :)#neither the fires of hell nore the grace of god’s presence in heaven. nothing. u get nothing but this cot and the baby u murdered for#now sit in it#handmaids tale

cause like no he would not. we all know that he would not. he has always gone along with gilead in the end. as a driver, in the war, as a guardian, and then a commander. you cannot convince me that he would ever choose differently. BUT
Serena Joy is the one who says this to June. she looks so upset while she says it too. it sounds SO personal as she says it. honestly i’m not sure if i think she means to but i resolutely believe she’s talking about herself here.
