I write things, lmao. If you're in need of beta reader, feel free to message me (politely of course) and I will be more than happy to do so. This will also serve as my dumpster for all things Hetalia. FF.Net: Charly Mae AO3: Charly_Mae

Normally, the human brain edits out blinks. But not yours. When you blink you catch a microsecond glimpse of another place. Sometimes beautiful, sometimes horrific.

Some of the best writing advice I ever got was if you’re stuck on a scene or a line, the problem is actually about 10 lines back and that’s saved me from writer’s block so many times.

There’s probably a German compound word for that feeling you get at 2am when you’re single in your mid twenties and the creeping doubt that you’ve somehow missed your only chance at love because you didn’t meet someone in college and now it’s too late

WHEN YOU FIND A FIC
AND IT’S JUST MMM BOI
BC IT’S GOT GOOD GRAMMAR AND SPELLING
AND THE PLOT MAKES SENSE
AND THE CHARACTERS ARE WELL WRITTEN
AND YOU CAN HEAR THEM SAYING THE LINES IN YOUR HEAD
AND IT’S NOT A ONE SHOT
IT HAS CHAPTERS
AND JUST THE LITTLE THINGS IN IT THAT MAKES IT SUCH A DISTINCT STANDOUT
YOU KNOW WHAT I FUCKING MEAN

list of favorite things as a fanfic author:
When someone is really freaking mad at me for inducing an emotional response from them
when readers give me a background of how/when they read my writing
when readers give me a background of why they shouldn’t have been reading my writing (usually while at work)
when readers quote my work back to me in comments
the frickin’ real heroes here, the ones who comment on every chapter of an ongoing multi-chapter fic

@fanfic writers and writers in general
PLEASE STOP USING “THE BLACK MAN” TO DESCRIBE BLACK MALE CHARACTERS
WE KNOW THEY’RE BLACK. WE KNOW. YOU DON’T NEED TO TELL US YOU CAN’T THINK OF ANY OTHER DEFINING FEATURE OF THEIR RICH AND INTERESTING CHARACTER.
There are very few instances you need to say “the black man”:
If being described to or by police, they usually say if the character is Caucasian or African American, etc
If it is literally the first time they are being seen or described
If their racial or cultural identity is significant to the narrative (“he was a proud black man in a city that didn’t respect him” etc etc)
You can use other descriptions. “the brown eyed man” “the black haired man” “the curly haired man” “the bald man” “the big man” “the small man”
You can identify a character by traits that aren’t the colour of their skin
This also applies to other nonwhite characters like Asians, as well as female characters, though my complaint is solely based on my own experience and how often I have to wince every time a black male character in a fic gets called “the black man”
