VEROCHKA DOLOHOV really is the spitting image of KYLIE BUNBURY, right? For someone only TWENTY THREE years old, VERO has been forced to endure so much. Yeah, that PUREBLOOD has been scraping by at the sanctuary since MARCH, 2029, working as a COAST GUARD in the DIVISION OF PROTECTION. THEY identifies as NON-BINARY and are known to be HEADSTRONG and DISCIPLINED but also DOMINEERING and EMOTIONAL. Best of luck surviving through this.

youth & growing up!
vero is the middle dolohov sib and is endlessly, deeply loyal to their family. being the middle child in a family of five can be rather lonely at times, with mila and marlen ( their younger siblings ) being close as well as maksimilian and lyonechka ( their older siblings ) being close. they were always in the middle, a little too old to play with their two younger siblings, way too young to play with their older siblings. that is not to say they were alone, but there was a slight feeling of being left out at times. still, verochka loves their siblings growing up, and continues to do so as they grow older.
they spent the first thirteen years of their life in bulgaria and went to durmstrang for two years there, too. bulgaria is a place vero longs for a lot more than they would like to admit --- it’s a place of childhood memories and a world before all this. the dolohovs moved to the uk after vero’s second year at durmstrang, due to their father opening another boutique there ( he’s a fashion designer, someone who also created rather death eater/dark magic like clothing ). their mother transferred from the bulgarian ministry to the british one, where they worked in the dept. of myssteries as well.
vero’s father is the son of antonin dolohov, famous as hell de for all the wrong reasons. his beliefs are still part of the family and are ones that vero upholds quite seriously --- they have not seen any reason to rid themselves of their purist believes, even if they know that keeping them on the downlow can, at times, benefit them. ( but only sometimes. )
when they transferred to hogwarts for their third year, vero was sorted in hufflepuff. it was a rather big shock, in all honesty --- they had expected slytherin, or maybe gryffindor, but not hufflepuff. the soft house, the house known for kindness ; it made no sense to vero, at first, but once they rid themselves of the stereotypes regarding the house, they understood. vero is a very loyal person, someone who can be lethal when it comes to that part of themselves --- crossing someone they love is usually met with they rage. they’re not shy of working hard and they are a very dedicated individual, and above all, vero has very high ideals and very intricate thoughts on fairness. while i can assure you that they’re not a very morally good person, they do think about fairness a whole lot. the issue is just that their thoughts on what is fair and what is not are rather twisted.
as a student, vero was successful. they worked hard, kept their head down a lot of the time ( despite them being a rather short tempered person with an extrovert nature, vero did try to avoid picking fights as much as possible --- they failed quite often. still, considering the people they were surrounded with and their opinions of them, they did a really good job of not constantly getting into brawls. ). they had a family to do proud, a bunch of people to prove wrong and a hardworking nature inside themselves that would not allow them to just sit by idly and watch their educational career wash down the drain.
really loved practical subjects, preferred working with their hands rather than with their mind ( which was, in all honesty, sharp enough for them to be good at essays if they applied themselves ). excelled in transfiguration, dada and charms especially, and started considering a career as a hit-wix pretty early on.
post-grad & outbreak
due to their undeniable talent with a wand and their connection to the ministry ( their mother was a very loyal employee, after all ), vero got into hit-wix training pretty soon after graduation. while they didn’t always like the rules and regulations, or the way the ministry worked, they were happy to be there, to be getting ready for a career that fitted their talents and wishes for life.
[ sibling & parental death, grief tw ] their older siblings, parents and grandfather went in when the death eaters started building up again, but vero avoided that, due to their young age and graduation so recent. while vero supported the cause fully, they were glad to still have a few years before they were, most likely, invited to join as well ( and refusing was no option, once they were asked ). their family was also involved in the raising in the inferi. during this whole Ordeal, lyonechka died. later on, vero and their siblings witnessed their mother die at the hands of a horde of inferi. it’s something that has haunted vero ever since, even though they don’t want to admit it.
the death of their youngest sibling, marlen, however is the death that has continued to haunt them most. vero and their three remaining siblings had been moving around, traveling in order to avoid the inferi, searching for something. they had been separated from their father ( kazimir ) for a while, and it had been just them, the four of them, linked by grief and loss. it was during that time, that marlen became infected, but due to the glamour, they didn’t realise, not until marlen was coming for maks and mila asked if marlen had been checked for bites. it happened really quick after that --- vero thinks, quickly, grabs their wand and makes sure, in a mere split second, that this is not behaviour that fits their brother before shooting the curse that kills him.
it’s something they don’t know how to deal with. they saved one brother’s life by ending another, and it’s a concept that they cannot really comprehend. vero is filled with unresolved trauma and anger, mostly directed at themselves, and simply does not know what to do with all this. they wake up from nightmares in which their hands are covered with blood, dream of marlen looking at them with fear in his eyes, of maks dying because they were too slow. it was logical that it was them --- vero was a hitwix, was bred for this kind of action, but it feels wrong. everything feels wrong. end of tw’s ]
after this incident, mila and vero ended up separated from maks. this lead to the two of them swallowing their pride and heading towards the castle ---- there’s no use in being prideful and arrogant when it gets you killed, when it just causes you more loss. vero knows that.
arriving back at hogwarts was wrong. it didn’t feel right, but it was the best option ( as it turns out, even the best option is a shit one ). with their grandfather in the basement and their father recently escaped from the castle, vero feels incredibly out of place, but is at the same time enraged. vero didn’t know about anything that was happening until it was too late, doesn’t know about everything that went down at hogwarts when they weren’t there. truth is, they were kept as much in the dark as most others, and having arrived, raw with guilt and trauma, to be faced with the fact that their grandfather is a prisoner and their father a fugitive is just adding to their anger.
at the same time, they’re not doing much to diffuse any of the heat that is on them because of their family name. they can understand their suspicion -- even though they’re not here to start any shit --- but they’re not really enjoying it either. vero is angry, is firey hot, and due to the fact that they’re suppressing all the emotions that are trying to wash over them like a fatal wave, they are short tempered, mean, adding to the suspicion with narrowed eyes and short words.
everything just feels wrong, and vero just wants to leave. they don’t feel safe here, even though it’s the safest place they have been in a long time. maybe it’s because of their nightmares, or because there’s too many people here that get on their nerves, or because nothing is right. to them, this all feels like a temporary solution, like another place they and mila are just going to be at for a while until it’s time to move on and go to the next place. the fact that they think that this is temporary ( which it shouldnt be, because this is the best place to be -- they knows that, logically ) is the one thing that is keeping them slightly calm.
personality & tidbits !
fire heart. really short tempered, 24/7 annoyed, angry person. should probably just keep their mouth shut if they want to do themselves some good, but have a lot of trouble doing so.
identifies as non binary and uses they/them pronouns. it’s something they’ve been open about for a while now, too. is demiromantic and asexual but isn’t too open about that, nor do they really understand their sexuality thus far. vero has never really thought about it much, nor have they had any time/desire for sex/relationships.
leather jacket and black boots aesthetic.
can get into really long rants and honestly will not shut up if you get them going.
surprisingly enough not an angry drunk, but a dancy one.
when they’re your friend, they’re incredibly loyal, tbh. their loyalty goes deep, is a core part of their personality --- vero thinks being loyal is one of the most important things you can do as a person.
loves beyoncé. i don’t make the rules.
competitive asshole who will try to beat you in chess if they hear that you play ( not that into quidditch, but will spar with you, too )
idk man this is a mess!! jane’s intro ( here ) has some more detailed / better written info on the dolohov fam, btw!

“Important things like how to kill a zombie?” He smiled. “Sorry. I know there are other important things to learn. Like maths and how to spell.” He slid a book someone had left on the table in front of him and read the title. It sounded incredibly boring which was perfect for him to fall asleep. “What are you teaching?”
“I hardly think we should be teaching kids those things,” said Ailyn, her tone half serious, half playful. “I suppose being able to spell properly doesn’t seem like the biggest priority, but they deserve a childhood as normal as possible, and learning boring grammar rules is part of that. I teach history, though, not English, though, which is actually pretty useful, to help them understand all this.”

“Research.” Estelle held up the Arithmancy book she’d found, as well as a book of runes. “Trying to calculate the optimal time of day to put things through the forge—not to mention the runes I’ve been inscribing on the weapons. Some of the muggles think it’s still just decorative, but a few have come around to believing it makes a difference. What about you?”
“That’s much more exciting than what I am doing,” said Ailyn. “She didn’t think so, not really --- she cared about her safety, sure, but her interest in all the things happening to ensure it was not bigger than her interest in her history books. “And very impressive, too. I’m preparing for some classes; I teach History. I got kind of wrapped up in it all, though --- the renaissance era is just horribly interesting.”

This time, he couldn’t contain his chuckle. “I think you’ll definitely survive. So…how’d you strain your muscle?”
“Well, I’m a runner, right? So I was just sprinting --- faster than Usain Bolt, I’m telling ya --- and I guess I made a few weird steps or something. Didn’t really notice in the moment, to be honest, adrenaline had me all hyped up --- those inferi are real scary, and everything. But yeah, I was just careless, probably. That’s usually the answer.”

Xia gave a nervous laugh; Roxanne was bold, boisterous maybe, in a lot of ways Xia wasn’t, and while it was nice, it could be intimidating. “Yeah, I, right, no, it’s okay! I just—I know it’s probably tiring, having people asking you for stuff all the time, and having to go out there on top of it, and so—” She nodded, “Yes, thank you—if it’s not too much trouble. And we can stop and get something for your muscle, maybe?” Xia laughed, “Even if it’s just a snack instead of a visit to Pomfrey.”
She shook her head. “Oh, no, no, it’s real cool, actually! I like getting people stuff, and it gives me a bit of direction. I wouldn’t know what else to get otherwise, and that usually leads to me getting all kinds of crap that no one wants, but me.” Roxanne tended to be easily distracted, even on runs. It was not something she was very proud of, but sometimes it lead to her bringing in some interesting things, that could not be denied. “Of course not! I’ve got to keep this leg moving, even if I don’t want to. And a snack sounds brill, let’s do it!”

“Be the hero Hogwarts deserves, McGeezy, and give us all a bit of peace and quiet from him, yeah?” Dorian spoke up, looking up from where he’d been—embarrassingly, maybe—-trying to master some sixth year charms with his formally non-dominant, now only arm. “What’s he doing? Terrorizing the muggles again? I told him I’d sent the Baron after him last time.”
“You’d think in a time as tumultuous and stressful as this, people would start addressing me properly,” she said, tone sharp, even though she wasn’t half as annoyed as she was appearing to be. “I’ll most definitely try, though I doubt I will be successful this time. If only he would use all that energy on the inferi.” Minerva paused to observe the other for a moment, but decided not to comment on what he’d been doing before, not just yet.

Liam let out a laugh and then cleared his throat, remembering he was in the presence of McGonagall. The poltergeists had more than once sent him into defense mode with their moaning, his body assuming inferi were nearby. “I fully support that idea, Professor. If I knew how to help, I’d lend a hand.”
“I’m afraid you wouldn’t be able to,” she replied, a soft sigh spilling past her lips. How she wished that someone would come with a breakthrough when it came to Poltergeists right now. With current circumstances that, however, seemed rather unlikely. “There’s not much any of us can do but attempt to endure it. Or send the Bloody Baron his way, I suppose.”

auguste pulled up short as he passed minerva. he couldn’t quite tell if the council member was speaking to him or to herself. it seemed more likely that she was simply speaking to herself, given that auguste was just passing by. however, the stress in her voice brought up a strange sympathy in him. auguste didn’t generally find himself speaking with the elder woman very often but whenever he did ocassionally speak with her he found it hard to hold on to his usual bitter attitude towards those who had the fortune to be born with magic. “i gather peeves has been a busy one today.” he said finally. auguste was not particularly found of the poltergeist either of the castle ghosts he was the most headache inducing, especially as he had taken to hiding auguste’s lab notes when auguste wasn’t around which meant going on a scavenger hunt in order to find them.
Minerva didn’t mean to talk to herself, but it happened, from time to time --- with so much on her mind and so much happening around her, it was hard for her not to slip up. The thoughts swirling in her head were often too loud for her to just keep quiet. “More busy than usual, yes,” she said, head shaking in annoyance. She really could not use having to deal with Peeves on top of everything, but here she was nonetheless. Somethings never changed, it seemed; younger inhabitants still tried to sneak alcohol to their rooms, there were still people out after curfew and Peeves was still on his lifelong mission to ruin everyone’s life. “You would think he’d tire one day, but alas. He has plenty of energy to spare, it appears.”

Jo came to a quick stop at the very irritated voice that interrupted her thoughts. She was on her way back toward her room to read a little bit - which was a perk of being in a place like this. There was a lot to read. But she didn’t want to aggravate Minerva McGonagall further. Although Jo didn’t know much about this place or the people in it, even after her time here, she had come to the conclusion that Minerva McGonagall was not a person to cross. “Is it possible to kill a poltergeist?” That didn’t seem likely, but she didn’t know very much about poltergeists.
She shook her head. It was, tragically, to kill or ban poltergeists --- if it wasn’t, she would have killed Peeves decades ago, if someone else would not have done it before her. He was simply part of the castle, and while he’d caused some good moments ( mostly during Umbridge’s reign ), he was one of the bigger disadvantages. “I’m afraid not. If it was, we’d not be standing here,” she said, her fingers rubbing her temples. “There quite interesting ... beings, though. In theory, only, though.”

As he realized who he’d bumped into, he blinked and tried to gather a proper response. “Nothing, Miss Luna… Just a brotherly quarrel is all.” He murmured. “I do apologize. He just… Well he left quite the upstart in my room and I…” Blinking for a moment, he realized how ridiculous he sounded. Blubbering on and all. “Regardless, he’s got me all geared up.”
Luna looked at her son with her eyebrows creased. “You’re talking quite strangely,” she remarked, her words still as bluntly honest as they had always been. At the mention of him and Lysander having a fight, she didn’t worry, however. “He’d benefit from leaning some cleaning charms, wouldn’t he? If you need me to talk to him sternly, just let me know. I will at least try.”

“It is a monstrosity, isn’t it?” Val’s tone was despondent, “That doctor or whatever she fancies herself said it’d help keep me from reinjuring it while it’s still sensitive—-as if Madame Pomfrey didn’t heal it completely anyway! I think Pomfrey’s just humoring her—-at my expense. It’s all very suspicious.” Maybe Scorpius Malfoy had more pull within the infirmary than she thought.
“It really is. There’s no nice way to put it, I’m afraid,” she said, pulling a bit of a face at the sight of the boot. “It honestly just looks inconvenient and ugly to me, and while on most people, it wouldn’t be the biggest issue, you have actual taste. It’s a shame that it’s being covered up.” Ailyn let out a soft chuckle. “Probably. I’d feel rather useless if I were a muggle doctor, to be honest --- magic just seems more effective when it comes to these things.”

Estelle’s eyes stung—-a product of a day spent near the makeshift forge, helping imbue new weapons and armor with defensive charms and protections—and she blinked, eyes bleary as she fought off a yawn. She’d been looking for nearly twenty minutes, and had finally found the arithmancy text she was looking for when Ailyn spoke. “Time flies when you’re having fun?” She offered—though most days, fun in this case was synonymous for fighting for survival.
“Absolutely,” she said, glad to not be the only person still roaming the library. While she didn’t mind solitude these days, it could get a little eerie among all the books, with the place so deafenly quiet. Besides, she liked the thought of others staying up to read. “What’re you doing here at this hour, then?”

“The library exists in a time vacuum,” Liam said as he sat down across from Ailyn. “Time doesn’t exist until you remember time exists.” He wasn’t sure what he was saying. He was exhausted but too on edge to sleep, and he thought maybe reading a book would make him pass out. He looked across at what Aiyln was doing. “That looks like homework. Did you forget we live in the apocalypse now?” He smiled.
“That is the truest thing I have ever heard. It’s quite strange, really, how time slips away here. I don’t dislike it, though,” she said. Books had always played a rather fundamental role in Ailyn’s life, it seemed --- they’d been her way to success, her way to escape. Their pages felt like a home, even now. “It is, actually. Not for me, though, but for the kids. We can hardly stop teaching them important things now, can we?”

Thea couldn’t sleep. It didn’t happen much these days; she had always had a very good ability to sleep whenever she needed to and that served her well these days. But sometimes she couldn’t sleep, and when that happened, she found herself wandering the halls. She’d detoured into the library in search of a book that might lull her to sleep when she spotted a familiar figure. “What are you doing up at this time of night?”
“I suppose I could ask you the same,” she said, looking up to find Anthea standing there. Ailyn let her lips curl in a smirk, turned on her chair slightly, leaning sideways against the back. “I was preparing for a class and I just lost track of time, I suppose. It’s kind of like back in the day.” Fingers trailed her notes as she thought back to the days where the need to prove her worth had been so high --- nowadays she’d prefer to stay in the shadows, than shine.

“I’m sorry—I’m sorry!” Xia hovered in the doorway, almost antsy in her movements. “I was just—Dorian said that—-well, I asked, if someone could, I asked for some… markers, or crayons, for the kids, and he said you’d found some during your last run so I—-but if it’s a bad time, I can come back later.” She ought to have exited with at least a bit of grace, but she’d never been good at leaving someone when they seemed to need help. “Did you—need anything?”
Roxanne felt her cheeks grow red and hot when she heard Xia’s question. “Shit, sorry, I was just joking,” she said, sitting up. “You know how it goes, you start complaining a bit and before you know it, you’re out there yelling the strangest stuff.” She wasn’t sure how relatable it was, really, but she didn’t spend too much thinking about it, got up in stead. “Crayons? I’ve got them, yeah, I’ll get them with you, if you want me to?”
