I think one of the best and unintentionally funniest worldbuilding aspects in Star Wars is the reasoning of why did Bail and Breha adopt Leia instead of having their own children. Leia is first established as the princess of Alderaan before she is written to be Luke's sister. So now we need to figure out how she got to Alderaan. She was adopted because she needed to be hidden and separated from her brother. Bail was placed there to be one of the only people who knew so there would be a reason why it was them who got her. They specifically wanted a daughter. Why? Because Alderaan is a matriarchal society, so they needed a princess. Why didn't the Queen and her husband have biological children? Because they can't. Why? Because the Queen can't have kids. Why? Because she got injured as a teenager and got her internal organs replaced and her body can't handle a pregnancy. How did she get injured so badly? She fell off of a mountain. How did that happen? She was climbing it. Why was the future Queen climbing a mountain in the first place? Because she needed to go through three challenges in order to inherit the throne and one of them required her to go through something physically impressive. Why? Because before that they just held a Battle Royale for all the heirs and the one left alive got the throne and they at some point figured out that maybe they shouldn't be doing that, actually. Oh, okay.

I can't say how much of this was intended, but the more I examine it, the clearer it gets that a bunch of random nonsense combined to make Revan the ultimate queer power fantasy.
First, there's the romance options, which originally included female characters romancing Juhani, but Lucasfilm ordered that cut and Juhani got put in a literal closet. This was 2003, that was pushing the limits, and even with the cuts made, the intentions came through. Revan remains pretty flirty with both Bastila and Carth regardless of gender, and it didn't take many changes to mod same-sex relationship options in for them both.
Then there's Revan's gender, which was deliberately concealed for the sake of building up a plot twist, and I haven't seen anything else quite like it because it led to textual indications of Revan being nonbinary or transitioning. Even characters in the games have mixed information. In the second game, Atton refers to Revan as a woman by default. The Revanite leader in SWTOR points out people remain uncertain of Revan's gender. Even when playing as a woman, Canderous will at one point refer to Revan as a man. That one is obviously a mistake in the script since all other dialogue avoids gendering Revan, but it's noticeable and it all offers room for interpretation.
You don't become the most famous person in the universe while accidentally leaving people to guess your pronouns. That's something you do on purpose. As part of the buildup towards the reveal, Darth Revan's character design is intended to conceal their gender, and the big reveal cutscene that shows their face uses the same body for men and women.
While the morality of the situation is unusual considering Revan is pretty damn evil and needs to be stopped, the story is about their identity being suppressed by their culture's authority figures. This includes making them forget their name, which despite some contradicting sources, Revan may have chosen for themself after defying that authority. Then their true self gradually, inevitably reemerges, more and more people recognize Revan including their sweet robot son whom they love, and they use their own name again. Finally, you get the androgynous robes back on the Star Forge. It should be no surprise this resonates with certain people.
