My official 5e villain arc begins

Hello, I am a tabletop game designer. I became a tabletop game designer because 5e was so bad it fueled a writing rage-bender that has lasted between the spring of 2018 to the present, and I am still mad.

With the possible death of 5e and birth of 5.5/One/lmaoXD D&D (and the popular consensus around WotC generally turning sour), I believe that it is now a reasonable time for me to dance on 5e's grave.

This blog-chain will be needlessly hyperbolic, because I think it's funny. But I am making a real argument despite my hyperbolic language.

Each one of the blogs will be dedicated to a single aspect of 5e that makes me wish I got isekai'd in 2014 by a Ford Raptor.

The first topic: the title. Notice anywhere where it says "5th Edition"? Because I sure don't. I'm sure at the WotC thought they were geniuses. "We're going to do away with editions," they said in their greige offices lined Drizzt Do'Urden pinups, twinkle in their eyes. It'd be a shame if they ever exhausted all their marketshare with a single edition and wanted to re-release all the same slop over again with slightly different funny numbers, huh? Some short-term thinking if you ask me, pall-o.

First of all, 3rd edition is actually 2nd edition Dungeons and Dragons technically, because, legally speaking, Dungeons and Dragons is a legally distinct franchise from Advanced Dungeons and Dragons. Unless of course the legacy of Dungeons and Dragons, in which 3rd Edition is the 3rd of, is actually D&D White Box (1st), Dungeons and Dragons (Basic) (2nd), Dungeons and Dragons 3rd Edition. But why then leave out Greyhawk, the true second edition of White Box, out? In which Basic is actually the 3rd Edition, making 3rd edition the 4th edition. None of this makes sense, so I almost understand why they decided to say "fuck it" and just restart.

Then why, precious, is the next edition of Dungeons and Dragons also called Dungeons and Dragons? Please, help me. Did they get their marketing team from Xbox? Dungeons and Dragons 360 when?

Umberto Eco, who owned 50,000 books, had this to say about home libraries:
