Kutaka’s slightly awkward pose is actually a reference to a specific statue of Mekhila, one of the Twelve Heavenly Generals, protective deities usually viewed as guardians of the “medicine Buddha” Bhaiṣajyaguru. They’re commonly associated with the Chinese zodiac in Japan, with Mekhila specifically being associated with the rooster, which is probably why ZUN decided to use this statue for pose reference purposes.
