Another light fanart lol - don't know why he's playing with yarn
#curiosity killed the cat#or in this case#curiosity led to the cat unintentionally staining their hands and grasping for straws to justify themself#then developing a god complex and betraying anyone who could possible help them#before dying in a bloody puddle#id say the yarn fits#light yagami#death note

Maturing is realizing that Light and L both losing was the best possible outcome Death Note could have had
#yesss#and it bothers me when the adaptations cut near and have L give the ‘youtr just a murderer’ speech#near deserved the win because he treated the case and light as they should be treated#L was too much like light and he needed to lose because of that#near wasnt interested in entertaining lights game like L was#he saw light as nothing more than a mass murderer#there was no room for him to respect his intellect#and thats why he shows so much borderline contempt for light#light had said that near tried to win too beautifully but thats exactly why him winning was the best outcome narrative wise#L has no issue sacrificing the lives of prisoners just like kira#L is slmeone ligjt can use to validate himself because of those similarities#but near doesnt allow him any chance to relieve himself#and it fits with the whole ending scene shoving in lighrs face that hes not a god and hes actually a mass murderer#death note#light yagami#l lawliet#near

lights final death panel was genuinely so perfect. him layed out bare in a bloody puddle. hes usually able to distance himself from his crimes by killing in less grotesque, hands on ways that dont show an excessive amount of blood yet his death scene has him covered in it - another thing that shoves the fact that hes a murderer in his face. he always kept a polite distance from his victims and kept their murders clean which almost made it seem less like murder but he wasnt granted that in his final moments and now hes being judged just as hed judged his victims. its so poetic.

i agree that L is smarter than light but the “hed lose without the death note” arguments to undermine light has always seemed so stupid to me. L is the best (top 3) detective in the world with like billions (?) of dollars at his disposal, access to all kinds of things like surveillance cams, highly skilled people to help him out (wedy and aiber), the task force, FBI, the ability to broadcast on international television, inmates, FBI files which led to him pinning down ray penber as kiras likely target, high tech security, etc. a lot of his deductions were made with information aquired using these resources and he would most likely not have reached them as quickly if he didnt have access to them. if L had won, i could argue that he wouldnt have won without these things but frankly whats the point in that?
while misa was helpful in the end, she also heavily incriminated him and gave him some disadvantages too and misas eyes werent even useful in killing L because she forgot his name. light was operating on the belief that misa was going to get herself caught and that was exactly what happened. rem threatened to kill him should he kill her but misa was a huge threat to him as someone unreliable who could give him away. she revealed the existence of shinigami and her making a broadcast before the last date on her diary entry gave away that she met kira in aoyama and gave L some nice circumstancial evidence that light had done a decent job avoiding atp as most of Ls suspicion came from profiling.
she would do things like see him in public even though he told her it could lead to both of them being killed and mogi ended up seeing her because of this. this also put some more suspicion on light because his relation to her was now made known and it didnt work in his favor when she was apprehended as the second kira. then rem wanted to kill him when misa was captured and he was assigned with the task of getting her out of some deep shit. the plan involved the task force getting their hands on the notebook which was what gave L much more information so he could start piecing together how light carried out his crimes.
in the end he needed to manipulate misa into a situation where rem would be forced to kill L to protect her but where it would also prolong her lifespan and kill rem in the process to avoid being killed himself so its not like the win was just handed to him. he even went through the trouble of having rem and ryuk switch ownership because he needed misa to make the eye deal again so rem would see her lifespan ticking down and he knew rem wouldnt let her make the deal. he planned for this whole trick all the way back before he erased his memory. id say misa gave him a lot of disadvantages that put him in a position where L was very close to figuring him out but was also the ultimate key in the end to disposing of L right before he latched onto them.
im not really sure who would win tbh. i cant see L coming up with murder notebooks and shinigami out of thin air and if it wasnt for misa then he wouldnt know about any of those things. lights pretty good at not leaving behind actual evidence but Ls also good at hiding his name so it really depends on how far you think they can get on their own. misa basically broke the stalemate
light wasn't smarter than L he just had the advantage of a deathnote, and misa and her shinigami eyes.
if he didn't have either of those L would've won
#light yagami#l lawliet#death note#misa amane#kinda sick of people hyperfixating on lighrs advantages but ignoring Ls loll#long post whoops#im bored

im too late to participate in the poll :c but idgaf im writing out my take anyway.
good!light would definitely hate kira!light and vice versa. light can understand and somewhat respect some of kiras intentions. weve seen this in canon but he still thinks kira is wrong and disagrees with his methods.
he also has a personal issue against him as someone who was (along with his father) supposedly dragged into this by him. he is someone who heavily stood by his principles as shown in the yotsuba arc. he refused to take advantage of misa or endanger her even if it would capture a mass murderer and agreed with his father on capturing kira prematurely because he couldnt tolerate risking any more lives despite L warning that it might allow kira to get away. kira hurts innocent people as well as criminals and light would totally be against that. the more he got to know him, the more he would probably hate him but i think hed have some animosity from the start
now kira!light obviously hates those who go against him and try to tell him hes wrong so he wouldnt take positively to good!light but it runs much deeper than that. good!light embodies everything hes going against and everything he used to be. good!light is exactly WHY light needed to become kira. those strict principles are why he couldnt accept what he had done and needed to believe what he was doing was right. i can imagine hed resent good!light a little extra because good!light doesnt need to justify himself. its like a cracked doll who is determined to ignore the degradation looking at a picture of themself while pristine and contempt presenting itself as a cover for the bitter jealousy
now kira!light would also probably hate kira!light because his whole thing is that he kills murderers while being one himself. at least if he didnt know it was him, he would immediately hate his childishness and condemn him for acting selfishly (acting on ego) in ways that dont contribute overall to their goal. he justifies all his murders in whichever way he needs to (even if theyre not kills supported by his philosophy) but he wouldnt hold the same leniency with anyone else really. for example, misa tried to make the same excuse after killing the news people but light shot her down and (according to ohba) sees her as a bad person he only keeps around for her eyes because of that.
i was also thinking about what would happen if you put light in a room with someone else with a raging god complex because im so curious how things would turn out but i think the fact that they both have a viscous need to be the one true god/basically the winner would turn it into a bloodbath. those motherfuckers would rip each other apart. two lights sounds like a nightmare lol one already did enough damage.
i would think good!light and good!light would be fine. he doesnt have a god complex so be doesnt need to be THE best and theyd be on each others levels so he wouldnt have to worry about boredom.

Poll time. For research!
Was having a debate with a friend, and now we are in the need of external answers, see what the people think.
Bonus points if you reblog with an explanation of your answer.
#death note#light yagami#i was thinking about maybe two kira!lighrs validating each other#but its too tricky#i cant really think of a scenario in which things work out with them#light has too much ego and heavily repressed self hatred (funny combo lmao)#self reflection is NOT his thing but thats what having a double is best for#i dont think hed respond well to seeing his childishness from the outside#its a lot harder to overlook it when youre not the one doing it#seeing everything from an outside perspective would not be something he likes#his entire thing is avoidance and this makes that really hard#only of the few pros being that he would be able to rely on this dude and hed be on his level#but i feel like his mental state and how that impacts his interactions with this dude would affect him too much

i know im being dramatic but holy shit two black pages have never hit me so hard. seeing them after the double page spread of light covered in blood with unseeing eyes after so long of hearing his internal thoughts gave me chills. especially followed by the “all humans will, without exception, eventually die” “after they die, the place they go is mu (nothingness)” in rule format right after the black pages. im so used to being inside his head and hearing his thoughts and its almost like we still are but there isnt anything left in there because hes dead

yotsuba arc light hits 10x harder when you read the manga cause weve actually met this bright eyed kid before and being reminded of his naive and childlike appearance from the beginning comes like a punch in the gut. sometimes you dont even notice how much hes changed until he goes back to how he was

im actually so pissed that the anime production team decided to fuck around with the adaptation because the voice actors genuinely elevated the show so much and i wish they stuck closer to the manga because it wouldve been insane if it was just the manga combined with the voice acting and soundtrack omg. like im reading the manga rn and im at the warehouse scene and i like it better because its just generally more fleshed out and better composed but brad swailes weird little giggle as he says “soichiro yagami?” and during the speech is so perfect and i cant unhear it
#death note#light yagami#actually all of his deliveries in that scene#‘matsuda you idiot! who the hell do you think youre shooting at?!? dont screw with me!’#i also loved the way nears va said ‘no’ followed by ‘youre just a murderer’#the way it was delivered made it sound like he was talking to a dog almost#idk i think the demeaning infliction perfectly fits the scene#WHO ELSE COULDVE DONE IT#AND COME THIS FAR#WOULD THEY HAVE KEPT GOING???#so many good ones#and his growl before yelling at matsuda#perfection#i guess near was right to talk to him like a dog
