the first meeting

life is normal. it's scripted. it's functional. then one day, you meet them, and... Oh. you fix your posture, you're a little nervous, and it's totally possible you're just projecting -- but this could be something. and the only thing that makes this different from the hundreds of other times you had that exact same thought only to be disappointed is... this is the time that counts. things change. you were looking for someone whose very existence re-contextualized yours. which is not to say that you were incomplete, but... aren't we all? isn't that the essence of being a being who changes? and what completes us if not the love of something or someone beyond us? sure it's still new, and anything could happen from here, but there's something in your shared brain chemistry that makes it feel like good things are in motion. how exciting!

“Ha… so I’m a mango…” Haru couldn’t begin to understand, but that did conjure up a memory from the back recesses of her mind. ‘I did make a mango costume all those years ago, I wonder if I could fit into it?’ It didn’t matter if she was in middle school or highschool, she still made costumes. Even now she found herself making costumes when she had some free time to indulge in old past times. “That can certainly be arranged.” She was unabashed in considering wearing a mango costume just for a good laugh. If she’s going to be called a mango, might as well dress the part.

Haru blinks in shock for a moment before she bursts into a small fit of giggles. That was something she could expect to hear from Lambo whenever he would boldly claim he would defeat Reborn once and for all, or that he’d make Gokudera grovel at his feet. “As inviting as the suggestion is, I don’t think I’d be able to beat any of them in battle, I’m afraid.”

Just as she was reminiscing about a particular cow child, Haru reached out and pat the top of Fran’s head, an old habit of hers that she never quite broke herself out of. Even if Lambo was currently taller than her, she’d still reach up and pat his head. “Maybe if I continue working hard, I’ll be able to beat them up, hm?” She giggled again, humoring the thought.

While it did frustrate her that they continued to keep some things from her, she could understand why they felt the need to do so. “I’m fine with making slow and steady efforts. You can find me under the definition of ‘stubborn.’” 

Fran huffed, feigning offence as he crossed his arms, and leaned into Haru’s hand. He wasn’t above getting head pats. Even as an 18 year old, he loved getting the attention of those older than him - Granted the attention he often aimed for was in the form of getting stabbed or getting into verbal fights, but still.

He sort of missed when he was barely chest height. He got headpats more often back then.

A small, barely there chuckle escaped him, thinking on the words of his master as the mention of being ‘stubborn’.

“ Mukuro-sama always says the Vongola are the most stubborn of all Mafioso, so it makes sense for La Mangue-san to be the same way, “

“ But she should still get stronger. Master also says the best way to convince the meathead mafia that you are worth their respect is to be strong, stronger than the average, 

Then again, maybe La mangue-san is a bit too old to get that powerful now. “

you want the uncontrollable giggles, lighthearted kisses on noses, cheeks and foreheads. dancing to bad radio music in your underwear at 11am after a movie night that ended too late. it’s the same song you screamed along to in the car when you looked at them and realized for the first time that you fell in love with your best friend and you see it in their eyes that they feel the same. you’ve decided that life is too short to spend it loving what doesn’t make you happy.
