2) Does your apprentice get flustered over anything? What make them flustered? Do they turn red? Stumble over words?  

Liuyin doesn’t get flustered-- at least, not visibly. Being flirted with by someone they like means their chest gets really warm and fuzzy, extremely flustered means they’re basically halfway to blushing.

Catulla gets flustered very easily, for any manner of reasons including flirtation, embarrassment, etc, leading to her stuttering, trying to make herself scarce, and turning very pink.

6) Do they have a personality shift depending upon certain people? Who does it change for and how so?

Liuyin keeps a fairly standard personality with everyone they meet-- polite, but not sycophantic, poised but not arrogant. However, there’s some space for variations, as those who inspire scorn from them are more likely to get a stiffer silence, more decorum in place of genuine warmth, etc.

Catulla has very differing personalities-- with her family, she’s shy and small and quiet, keeping her existence barely-known. At court, she blossoms more, letting her passion about art and architecture do the talking for her. And of course, with her romantic interest, she keeps a softer, less abrasive personality, perhaps a bit more vulnerable, her inner self, open.

10) What does their living space look like? Is the shop messy or clean?

Liuyin’s inner space is clean enough-- at least, there’s a method and a system to any vestiges of messiness. It helps that most of the shop is in white, which gives a slight illusion of cleanliness, though they’re moderately messy. Their own rooms are basically a canopied bed for privacy and a nest of blankets and pillows. Unlike most chinese-style beds, these are soft. (No but really, traditional chinese beds-- if you try to flop down on one, i guarantee you’re gonna be seeing god)

Catulla’s living spaces and working spaces are a riot of different colors; paint stains or just half-finished paintings lying about, even some doodles or paintings on the walls. It’s a sort of chaos that upon closer inspection is rather easy to navigate through, but first impressions are most definitely “damn, you live like this?” She sometimes straight up just sleeps on the tarp where she’s been painting.

Could I ask 22 and 25 for the apprentice asks?

22) Does your apprentice have a familiar? What is it and what’s their name? Do they talk to the apprentice? What’s their personality like?

Liuyin had a familiar before their death-- a silver butterfly. Presuming that the familiar died and wasn’t resurrected with Liuyin; this explains why Liuyin’s personal gate manifests with butterflies “leading” characters around. The butterfly’s name was Shanbo, in a reference to Liang Shanbo and Zhu Yingtai, aka the butterfly lovers. They were a bit of a “flighty” presence, no pun intended, matching Liuyin’s own personality.

25) What is the easiest way to annoy your apprentice? How do they react to being annoyed?

Two things Liuyin loathes are boredom and insincerity; at least one of these are quite easy to come by in the company of people at the palace outside of their friends. Liuyin tries to react to annoyances by turning even more silent-- their silence is considered “stony”; or just stop talking to said annoyance altogether, choosing to ignore them and basically keep their responses and encouragements to a minimum. They don’t do “flying off the handles” but you definitely can tell when they’d rather be somewhere else.

Catulla can be somewhat temperamental, like her brother, though her fits of temper mostly occur in the wake of someone trying to denigrate her or someone trying to interrupt her artistic headspace-- you know, the usual, someone asking to see their works in progress, looking over her shoulder, asking if she could paint them for free or something, which Lucio was surprisingly good with Not Doing because her job is to get paid to paint stuff he wants, which is part of why she likes him so much. Her reactions to this are mostly just *painting/drawing/sculpting harder* while snapping out something like “leave me the hell alone�� and if pushed, she’ll say something along the lines of, “I’m sure the Count, my employer, wouldn’t appreciate his court painter being harassed like this” or “I’m sure my brother, the Consul, and the gens Claudia patricians wouldn’t be fond of the fact that someone is trying to degrade one of their family.”

20) (NSFW) Does your character have any kinks? What are they? Have they ever been acted upon?

Liuyin: Liuyin’s not particularly kinky, but they’re willing to try everything out at least once or twice-- they can’t stand anything to do with either giving or receiving physical “punishment” in bed however. Things like sensory deprivation/blindfolds are their favorite. Once they get together with their partner, this is a regular occurrence once a week at least.

Catulla: Catulla has rarely gotten laid, perhaps two or three times at most, and it’s not what you would call “all the way” experience in any of her encounters. She’s a service switch/top (???? please correct me if like, I’m saying this wrong)/she likes to be the person “servicing” her partner.

23) Describe you apprentices’ humor.

Liuyin: Liuyin’s humor consists mostly of saying something quite outrageous involving magic with a straight face and watching as the other person completely freaks out or catches on later-- an example in The Holy Fool is Liuyin teling Julian they’re not staying to watch the autopsy because they need to purify the surroundings to make sure the spirit of the dead fetus doesn’t latch onto him and consume his firstborn child in the womb. Expressly untrue because they’d already laid the spirit to rest before it was taken, they just wanted to watch him squirm a little.

Catulla: Catulla’s humor is very spontaneous-- they quip, but they’re not by any stretch of the imagination some sort of MCU character. They mostly go for chuckling with other peoples’ jokes rather than their own, and when they do quip, it’s borderline mean/nihilistic humor.

I’ve always pictured Liuyin’s original arcana before being resurrected as The Fool as being the Death Arcana, and in the reversed ending, they’d use the same ritual the Devil is using to merge realms, but instead to become the Death Arcana itself by bringing what’s left of that Arcana over into the human world and absorbing it, breaking Valdemar’s chains/power, and effectively botching the ritual under the assumption that they could only send over one arcana a time, to the extent that the Devil is sealed back into the Arcana realm, which has the consequence of taking Liuyin along with it, as they’re now an Arcana as well.

However, all is not lost, as Liuyin, as an Arcana, is still able to speak through the tarot deck-- when the Arcana deck is used once more, everyone notices that the animal skull that Death originally was has now become a white-veiled and white-robed youth who looks just like Liuyin.

In Catulla’s reversed route, she would probably have, instead of growing into her own person, wallowed in her insecurities and one-sided affection for Lucio, to the extent that she thinks by going over to his side, she could either 1, help him become a better person, which in her state of mind/current mental health status she’s not equipped to do, or 2, get him to leave everyone else alone at the very least, as atonement for her abandonment of Julian and Nadia during the plague. While she hasn’t made deals with the Devil, she might have started doing so in her reversed ending-- or at the very least, made one.

If Lucio is exiled, she’ll probably make a final one that effectively Dorian-Grays them before leaving, which means that she’ll become a demon in the future with the weight of her deal, and leaves an open-ended question of whether or not she and Lucio can be redeemed or not, and if so, when and how it happens.

As they unravel dark secrets around their pasts, they must race against the clock to prevent the Devil’s Court from enacting their nefarious plans to find the Holy Fool, a figure preserved in the city’s folklore whose blood is said to hold the secret to life itself.
