she felt absolutely no guilt about popping the floatie--well, not an overwhelming amount of guilt. the only way that she’d expect to feel a shit-ton of remorse at all was if popping said floatie would have badly effected herself. “sadly, i don’t have an instagram account, being as i’m the last person alive to own a flip phone, so the extent of me smashing anything would have to be figuratively.” she gave a small frown, though it was probably easily readable.

vic watched the inflatable donut deflate, frowning a little, but not too much. it was only a floatie, but it had been her ticket into the water without getting her ankle wet. then again, she couldn’t exactly complain about not being able to get in the water to an actual cripple, who would never be able to get in the water again. she shrugged. “that thing? it’s cool, i already took a pic with it for insta. if you really wanna make it up to me, smash that ‘like.’”

when the opposite female didn’t seem to take the floatie being popped to heart, felicity felt grateful. a hint of a smile played on her lips and the brunette glanced down to her lap, almost letting a chuckle fall free from her lips. “it is frightening; i should call this thing The Bone Crusher. i’m sure it’d feel as though your foot would have been run over by a car’s tire.”

peyton’s mouth dropped as she watched the poor girl maim her raft. well, it wasn’t hers, but she sure as shit was planning on using it before the family who left it there came back to reclaim it. “i’m afraid to see what that thing would do to feet,” she said, smirking in a quick recovery.

Even if Felicity hadn’t been the one to pop the floatie, it was inevitably going to end up popped sometime during the day because of one sole reason: teenagers are animals. Truthfully, she hadn’t felt bad for what she’d done and definitely wouldn’t be replacing it, most people believed Felicity out of pity. Truth-be-told, she probably would never be seeing the owner of the now deflated floatie after the day was over, so after another apology to the stranger, Felicity began wheeling away. The sound of a familiar female’s voice had caused a sudden smile to play on Felicity’s lips, albeit a rather faked one, as she’d flipped the brakes of the wheelchair on.
After giving a look of partial sadness, she’d wrinkled her nose. “I feel bad enough as it is,” lie. “that was probably more mean than my accidental popping of said floatie ever could be.” Though it was said in a joking manner, Felicity had been truthful.

Anyone smart knows you don’t bring floaties to a public pool. They hog up all the space for starters, and you’re too busy sprawled on your back to notice anyone giving you the stink eye. Second of all, you’re pretty much asking to be pushed off of the damn thing if you’re lying there dry. There are other reasons too, but Trista doesn’t have all day to think on them. It’s just not cool, and that’s why she makes no effort to hide her delight when the damn thing pops right under its owner’s ass.
“That was mean,” rather than berating the girl, Trista’s voice curls around the word as if she’s savouring candy. Where she’s sitting at the bottom of her lounger, the umbrella above keeps her in the shade. “It’s fine. I know for a fact she spends plenty of time on her back.”

“No sir--not that it’d matter, anyway; even if I did dip my feet in the water, it isn’t as though I would be able to feel it.” This act Felicity was putting on began to get easier and easier as time progressed, though oftentimes she forgot it was a cruel facade and acted as if she truly was parlayed. It’d made her visibly upset, though all that upset Felicity was the fact that she was perfectly healthy and, if the situation had been different, she could have swam. This was all her doing, but somehow she found her sudden “popularity” to be worth the fake injury. “I own both separately, but getting them into one contraption--well, I hadn’t thought it was actually, like, a thing.” There’d been a pause and Felicity gave a partial smile, gaze not quite meeting the male’s. “You’re right. I am pretty miserable in this heat--I knew it was going to be warm, but this heat almost makes me want to wheel myself into the pool freely.” It wouldn’t have happened, being this dangerously close to the water had made Felicity second guess herself. She’d seen plenty of movies, most of which involved a not quite paralyzed individual being pushed into a pool, only to find out that they could swim perfectly. “Come on. You’re you--I’d assume anyone here would play a pool game with you if you were to use your manners.”
Tumblr media
“You can’t even dip your feet in? Damn, you’re in a bit of a pickle because of that car accident,” he frowned, resting his arms on the pool’s edge as he looked up at her. “You should invest in one of those spray bottle and fan hybrids to keep yourself cool. I can’t imagine how miserable you must be in this unbearable heat.” He felt awful for the girl and wished he could help out somehow, but any help would require getting in her personal business and physically carrying her to the pool’s edge – probably not a good idea. “You’re probably right, but playing pool games alone aren’t as fun,” he chuckled.

It was fucking hot, practically scorching her legs that were covered by dark jeans,  that much Felicity was fully aware of. She had been tentative--attending the small gathering of students from her high school as a now paralyzed individual was probably the worst idea known to her. Watching others swim and splash around, staying cool, it’d seemed unfair. Then again, it was Felicity who’d put herself into this predicament. As she’d felt the pressure of someone stumble over her, probably because of her wheelchair, her cheeks instantly felt as if they had been fire. “Are you okay?” Felicity asked softly, not bothering to backtrack and reply to him not seeing her--she was much lower than any of the other students, not seeing her seemed to be a given. “That happens more than anyone would believe.”

If the sun could be any bigger and brighter, Ollie was certain that no one would be out at the pool, like almost all of them were, spending summer in all its glory. It gave him reason enough to need to squint to look around, as he made his way to the edge of the pool, not having taken a dive in yet. Oliver retreated a couple of steps backwards to reach a good distance that would give him a good, calculated thrust into a cannonball, but only to walk into someone behind him. And even worse, stumble over. “Shit ! … Didn’t see you there,” he nervously admitted, not even bothering to look at whom he was talking to while he revived from his graceful fall.

“Are you positive? It’d be no trouble at all to go to town and buy you a new one.” A hand brushed through light, mousy brown hair before Felicity’s gaze flickered to the object; she’d had enough practice with this chair that Felicity knew how to control it fine enough. She gave a small smile, though she’d kept her eyes off of the floatie and off of Rachel. “I think it does make you look like a frog, but I’d presume it’d still be as refreshing? You know, being in the water and all.”
Tumblr media
“Ugh, it’s - ok…” I wasn’t as if Rachel even could get annoyed at her, really. That would involve having to think of how much effort it must have taken for Felicity to control her chair, and of how shitty she clearly felt for having accidentally run over the floatie. And Rachel didn’t want to think of that. “No problem… I mean, yeah, ‘suppose I do! Doesn’t it kinda make you look like a frog, though?”

The moment that the wheelchair was set into motion, Felicity’s hands fell onto her lap effortlessly. It seemed strange how little she’d lost and how much she’d gained by being paralyzed that she couldn’t help but wonder how long this would last. All good things will end, after all, and Felicity couldn’t keep the act up forever. No one seemed to notice Felicity before she’d became the paralyzed girl, though that was something she’d liked--using a medical issue to her advantage. “I’m sure it’s possible,” each word was dragged from her lips slowly, gaze never once moving from her now clasped hands. “If you helped? I--uh, well, I mean, it’s plausible.” A hand rose to brush across had forehead. “I just, well, don’t think it’s a great, uh, idea?”
Tumblr media
Gabe grabbed the handles of her wheelchair without much thought. Wheeling her around had become second nature lately. He didn’t want to say he wouldn’t have been this friendly around her if it wasn’t for her handicap, but, well… He wouldn’t. In fact, he hardly noticed her before…Before. He winced. He hated even thinking about it. He hated knowing what he’d done. Or, rather, what he could have done. What he probably did. Sure. “I mean, you could, like, float…right? Like on your back? If I helped?”
