do you guys ever think about what it means that sieun lets suho touch him the way he does. you have this insanely guarded person who has no problem letting anyone know his boundaries as well as reacting (violently) when they’re crossed, but by the end of whc1, none of this applies to suho. he’s the only one sieun lets hug him, hold his chin, his arms, wrap himself around his waist, touch his lips with his hands.

sieun is someone who is not very good at recognising his own needs or admitting them to himself. he also never initiates physical contact and doesn’t normally enjoy it. but in his reception and wordless acceptance of suho’s affection is everything he never says—somewhere along the line, suho’s touch, which was once a nuisance, became a silent craving.

continuing my sieun having an all-girl friend group in university hc ,,,, none of the girls in his friend group are romantically interested in sieun but they are VERY interested in who he is romantically interested in, so he's constantly being pestered abt what his type is or if he's dating anyone or if he finds that girl pretty or, sieun-ah she totally smiled at you, ask for her number!!

at first he mostly ignores them but finally he can't take it anymore and just goes "stop. i'm already dating someone." that ofc IMMEDIATELY backfires bc they all refuse to let it go and want all the details of his "mystery girlfriend" that he's been hiding from them. sieun tries to put it off but eventually their relentlessness makes him cave so he just, pulls out his phone and shows them.

all the girls eagerly crowd around his phone only for the person on the screen not to be a pretty girl, but to be? a boy? he looks around their age. long dark hair, arrogant smile, one eye squeezed shut in a flirtatious wink at the camera. he's hot, really hot, actually (damn), but ?? who is that?

sieun totally straight-faced just says, "my boyfriend. ahn suho."

it takes the girls all of 2 seconds to adjust to the fact that sieun essentially just came out to them and immediately jump to protective friend mode. they demand a time for them to meet this “ahn suho” bc they simply must to determine whether this man is worthy of their dear sieun-ie. (he is.)

Something that i thought about was imagine when sieun gets hit by the truck after getting the call about suho and he just doesn’t wake up a few days later. or worse it actually killed him. then suho wakes up. and the first thing he does is ask about sieun and his grandmother can only hold his hand as she tells him everything from the time he entered his coma leading up to what happens to sieun. suho, who cared so deeply about sieun hearing everything and then getting hit with the realization he wasn’t there to protect sieun. and now he’s gone. just gone.

just like sieun couldn’t move on from suho when he was in his coma- i feel like suho wouldn’t be able to let go of sieun even though he’s already gone. sieun will always haunt the narrative of suho’s life.

Oh, and the helmet scene where Sieun is looking intensely at Suho? Apparently, it was THEIR idea. It was Hyunwook and Jihoon's idea!

And last but not least, the scene where Suho asked Sieun who are those behind him? Yoobeoji said Suho's eyes were focused only at Sieun's

U: Sitting in a wheelchair, he only says three lines. Though short, I thought they were so inherently Suho.

S: As an actor, it’s been three years since he played Ahn Suho. Maybe that’s why he came to the set with much more pressure and worry than I expected. The script, too, had only three lines, but the actual dialogue was different. In the script, it was written as “Have you been well(잘 지냈냐)?” but Hyunwook changed it to “Have you been living well(잘 살았냐)?”. I only noticed the difference during editing. That was Suho’s first line during the last time he went to Sieun’s house in Class 1, and I realized the actor changed it to reflect that connection.

The middle line, “Who are those people in the back(저기 뒤에 분들은 누구셔)?” stayed the same. But Hyunwook said that line didn’t feel right in his mouth, so after a couple of takes, we cut it on set. However, we wanted to keep the intention, so we ended up restoring it during editing. To be honest, in Suho’s eyes, he probably couldn’t even see who was in the back. He was only looking at Yeon Sieun. Maybe Hyunwook wanted to cut that line because suddenly shifting his gaze away from Sieun to someone else felt too difficult?

The next line was, “Our Sieun has grown up, made friends too(우리 시은이 다 컸네, 친구도 생기고),” but Hyunwook condensed it into “It is good to see(보기 좋네).” Looking back, if we’d kept the original, it would’ve felt too contrived and overly explanatory of the director’s intent. So, Choi Hyunwook… he’s really something, isn’t he?

They fall into the same sleep. During the seasons when the Catcher* was gone, the children fell, got hurt, and rose again. Sieun, now the Catcher of the new friends, comes to find an old friend who has finally awakened from sleep. Suho asks Sieun, “Have you been living well?” Those words, once a last greeting, became a greeting of the beginning again.

*translating 파수꾼 (Watchman, Guardian, Sentinel) as the Catcher to keep the reference to The Catcher in the Rye in tact.

i picture shse not being particularly in your face with pda bc they prefer to keep their physical relationship more private but suho is definitely a claiming in public kind of guy. putting his hand on the back of sieun's neck while they're walking down the street, hand on his thigh when they sit on the bus. claiming him in small, subtle touches that nobody would notice unless they were looking for it.....

+++ sometimes baku n gotak get a just a tad too touchy for suho's liking and he doesn't get mad or say anything, but for the next hour he has an arm draped around sieun's shoulders and radiating an aura that just screams mine.
