i was just gonna leave a comment/reply but I have accidentally closed it twice and deleted it so, Apologies.

But I think you are overlooking the Heishou from a gameplay perspective, which makes the lack of uniqueness justified by lore just kinda infuriating.

If I have to actively check whether I selected Ryoshu or Outis to clash because they look so similar at a glance then I think it is an active problem if they're not unique enough. It doesn't help that the Mao all have the same kit template with minor tweaks that don't really differentiate how theyre played. S1 with coin reuse, Gluttony S2, S3 that gets Strider and inflicts Deathrite, Counter to get Strider. They all do the same thing with minor variations that end up feeling slapped on.

Id honestly be (more) fine with the Mao if it was just Outis and Faust. Outis wanting Unopposed Attacks and Faust's Assist Defense play off each other well, letting them support the other while giving them their own purpose on the team. But then Mao Ryoshu is just Faust with less??? There is nothing that justifies her existence with Faust in the picture, there is nothing she does that Faust does not also do on top of everything else she does.

I have less experience using the Si, but I do think they're a bit better, as they actually have different S3s and a clearer distinction of what they want (Rodion leaning more into Rupture, Gregor leaning more Poise). But why on earth are Seasonal IDs going not even characters, but mooks, that Don't Even Show Up In The Canto. this canto is not lacking for ID Choices! Why are they here????

The whole lore based lack of uniqueness is fine, and its not like we haven't had similar things in the past. But this also means theyre kinda uninteresting gameplay wise. And Also, they got 5 Ids. With 3 to one branch and 2 to another branch. They got an intervallo, They got 2 banners at the start of Canto 8. This does feel like nitpicking but I feel its important to emphasize how much focus they got in comparison to how much theyve done/shown in the story itself.

I could keep rambling on and on but I feel its boils down to. They're Boring. They have cool aspects but getting so many of them really waters it down? It is justified for them to not to be unique, but if the execution is getting a bunch of "you can copy my homework but change it a bit" IDs then I think I am justified to call them boring.

I also feel they (Mao) made Rupture so boring to play now? Yeah its nice to have better numbers but its just so thoughtless now. You press the go fast button and now you don't worry about keeping the stack alive. You're not forced to use them, but not using them is just straight up handicapping yourself. They're like the most boring way to make Rupture better

Sorry for rambling/ranting under your post, this ultimately is just about our own objective truths. I do see what people find Cool about the Heishou, I think its just bogged down by the way they were handled. I don't think Id be that negative about them if Mao Ryoshu didn't exist, or if she was just a 00. But as is Theyre just so Boring to me.

I don't really watch Esgoo because, well, I've played the game enough to be able to discern whether something's going to be good or not on my own, but I saw on someone's post that he said that Heishou ids are "personality-less background characters" that "look similar to each other" First of all, not every character must or even should look unique and spout memorable quotes. Second of all, maybe they all look the same because they're, well, "leashed". I reckon that implies that they don't have any freedom of self-expression, and have to adhere to strict rules. Thirdly, I suppose technically we haven't actually talked to a single Heishou yet, because Zilu is actually from Pinky. But you can still see Sinners' personalities shine through: Obviously, Outis would be loyal, but still wanting to see her lover, thus she's unleashed before Rodya. Ryo doesn't care as long as she gets to make and behold her beloved art. Gregor has given up on everything and just follows orders. Rodya tries to feign loyalty, but she's clearly unsatisfied with being leashed Faust actually becomes defiant after meeting with Baoyu, essentially starting to exploit Gesselschaft for hers and Baoyu's needs. Interestingly enough other Fausts are okay with that. Considering that Don was blocked from access, I thought that Gessel would've had the technology to exclude Fausts as well. And in case Esgoo was talking about the actual Heishou and not ids: As Outis has repeatedly stated: They're just shadows of Hongyuan. They have no need of personalities or uniqueness.
