14: What is the cutest thing your character has ever done?

Unfortunately, he isn’t very cute. Or at least he has yet to do anything I would call “cute”. I suppose willingly helping people is cute of him. is crushing an enemy’s head with his bare hands to protect a human cute? Uh… I can’t really… get behind that.

… Best we let this one go for now.

Have you ever talked about how robo dude's joints work before? Does he have several different kinds, like, I imagine his fingers would work differently than his neck? (Tho maybe the neck isn't a joint lol)

THIS IS SUPER DUPER OLD BUT I SAW IT LAYING AROUND IN MY ASK BOX AND HELL YEAH I SURE AM GONNA ANSWER IT

So, fun fact: as I stated way back in the day in this post (and reiterated in THIS POST), he’s made up of mostly pliable, flexible, and soft-to-the-(equallysoft)touch materials. Underneath the cushiony Flex Derma Chromium is a Generic Iosteel chassis which accurately mimics that of the human skeleton. The difference is that ball-joints such as knees, elbows, shoulders and so on are backed with shock-resistant caps that, should the joint be broken or bent the wrong way, can quickly pop it back in place or shut down the corresponding body-part’s functionality for mending. 

“Ok, but why the rivets and lines all over the surface?” you might ask. Well, aside from aesthetics… Those actually mark where those shock-resistant caps and linings are. They work as separators to not only prevent damage but bolster impact deflection. Think of it as kind of like the sides of a trampoline. Without those sides holding the fabric mesh taut, you won’t be getting any bounce out of that thing no matter how much you hop on it. If those rivets weren’t present, there might still be some shock resistance, but you won’t get the sproing out of it.

So, yeah. Bottom line: He be sproingy. And fun to poke.

Just don’t do it too much or you’ll annoy him.

1: What is your character’s biggest fear? 

Futility, at best. Things (Not just for him but for a mass collective) ultimately not working out– as he’s already had to deal with the closest to that, he does his best to avoid experiencing it again. This also might tie into ‘loss’, that is, of acquaintances and such. But he doesn’t dwell too much on these things; so far as he’s concerned, he just reacts to predetermined neural functions. Call it self-denial.

20: What is the most surprising thing about your character?

…To me? Probably the fact that he uses “I” when speaking, despite his constant rejection of his very existence. I think he might recognize this as a contradiction, but he– could possibly be going by the notion that mindless children’s toys use self-identifying pronouns.

44: What is your character proud of?

Well, he is prideful, but also not at all. It’s like a pseudo-meta-pride, acknowledging his creators’ accomplishments in actually successfully creating fully synthetic life-like intelligence, but also talking shit about them nonstop and rejecting their ideals. I think it’s more that he’d RATHER be a standard AI, because it would be far simpler, but he can also look at his ability to actually get depressed/dream/write music or prose and be like “Huh. … Annoying, but interesting.”

There was something about this nameless android that simply gave him an automatic aversion to fellow androids, robots, and other hosts of some form of artificial, synthetic, or simulated intelligence. Perhaps he was just projecting, in a manner of speaking. He certainly showed no signs of having any self-respect.

Alas, he eventually came upon one robot of feminine complexion in the midst of aimless wandering. With no goal in mind, he was bent to just Go. Go anywhere. Even if the road led him to someplace dangerous or unpleasant. And the road brought him here, into the presence of another man-made entity, which he immediately recognized as such.

And what did he say upon seeing her?

Well, despite the intricate web of complex pseudo-neural transmissions firing off within him, his reaction was quite basic; flat-toned, straight to the point, short and sweet...

「...No.」

And with that, he was already turning to find a different path.

“Shall I put on a pot of tea?”

“Turn up the heat/put another log on the fire, the rain brought a chill.”

“Fine, you can come in, but take off your shoes.”

“I don’t need you tracking mud everywhere.”

“The sound of rain is so nice.”

“I like the rain and all, but being stuck inside is so boring.”

“The day would be a lot less boring if you learned how to sit still.”

“I cannot believe we’re stuck in this!”

“Maybe we should find somewhere to take cover until it stops.”

“Does it ever stop raining here?”

“Oh no! The rain ruined our picnic.”

“Want to go for a walk in the rain?”

“Can I have a blanket?”

“Sorry to intrude. This rain came out of nowhere.”

“Look at the sky! The lightning is insane.”

“It’s getting pretty intense out there.”

Okay, so it had probably been a while since Todomatsu last encountered this entity. Mayhap he'd have forgotten all about him, or believed he got killed or arrested for something.

But no; none of that happened. The android was once more in the park, acquiring a bench for himself merely by looming over the couple sitting in it and waiting.

They moved. Oh BOY, did they move. They were out of there within moments of being caught in the web of his steely gaze. But now that he was sitting, alone for that little while, he didn't look all that intimidating.

Just tired.

...If an android could GET tired, that is. That tired look was now directed at Todomatsu, waiting to see what he was there for.

Perhaps it can be deemed uncommon– bizzarre, even, for an android to be as willing as this one was to care for a total stranger– especially one that had attempted to shoot them.

But this one was, quite clearly, of a special breed. From the moment the bullet had ricocheted off the alien material of his body and injured his new companion to the point where he'd identified coffee as a harsh drink without its sweeteners, he proved time and time again that he was not a common sight in this world.

And perhaps as an added testament to this fact, he'd even scrutinized the innocent, clueless nature of the man under his care for not taking care to cool down the drink properly.

But now he had gone off, leaving the stranger to lay helpless in the bed while he hunted for some kind of sustenance for this man. He knew the guy wouldn't wander off, at the very least. He couldn't. And so there was no reason to stay with him the entire day.

He was more concerned about helping him to recover, after all.

It was well into the day that the android returned from…wherever he'd gone. With him he had brought rations acquired by rifling through neighboring abandoned buildings, as well as herbs and berries he'd found and identified as safe. These things were all dropped in a clutter on the counter by the humanoid's cot, and the android quickly went for the fireplace to revive its flames.

Not a word of greeting was spoken. But he did say this, with his back turned to the man, not even having to look a second time in order to make his assessment: 

「Did you manage to sleep as I'd suggested? You appear quite awake.」

Thus spoke an android, cold and flat in tone, standing over what appeared to be a dead thing of some ilk. Such a sharp statement would mean no amount of empathy was given. Such is to be expected of one man-made machine.

And yet after a moment's pause, staring down upon the poor empty host of what was once a spark of sentience, he finally stooped to gather it up.

His self-contradictory actions did not end there, of course. For,  knowing full-well that this thing was dead, he did in fact SPEAK to the small corpse.

「I believe one would expect you to be buried. As if it would matter.」

And yet, despite the judgmental wording, he planned to do just that. Because to him, at the very least, burying a corpse rather than leaving it out so would better suit the environment's best interests. Every biome needed its sustenance, after all.

The android had just stood and turned on his bare heels to go perform this potentially unceremonious burial, when suddenly he stopped. And then he sent a long, unwavering stare in the direction of the new face that entered his field of vision.
