reminder that warren’s lineage is literally tied to divinity, ancient mutants whom humankind believed were related to the biblical legions of angels. his people, including himself, are naturally stronger, faster, and more radiant when compared to other humans. there is a subtle glow about himself, but only noticeable from one’s peripheral view. this is also where his ability to heal comes from, rather than being a side-effect of his primary mutation.

honestly, there’s such a lack of intersectionality in the mutant community in regards to fighting against discrimination. like, there are mutants who are easily identifiable and therefore, face the brunt of discrimination, like kurt for instance. but then, there are mutants who are “passing” and can hide their mutation, like warren. there’s a lot to unpack here but it makes sense, since marvel harped on the civil rights movement when making x-men and tried to make it sympathetic to a white audience.

AMUSEMENT   FINDS   A   HOME  ON   WARREN’S   FEATURES.  said  amusement  is  paired  with  the  million  dollar  question  :  what  happened  ?  an  undignified  snort  is  the  reply  he  offers  the  other  man  as  he  allows  himself  to  rest  against  the  wall  behind  him.         ‘       eh,     y’know,    the    usual.   some   asshole    wants    t’    kill    me,    i   wanna    kill    him   too.    feel   free   t’   join   me   next   time  ;  could   use    a   healer.         ’    his  gaze  travels  down  to  the  –  now  healed  –  wound  on  his  side.  part  of  him  remains  surprised  at  the  other’s  abilities,  though  that  doesn’t  make  him  less  grateful.     

              ‘        great    work    as   always.    how’d    you    find    me   ?         ’

an  eyebrow  raises  at  the  offer,  lips  pulled  into  a  thin  line  for  a  moment  before  a  hefty  sigh  escapes.  warren  cocks  his  head,  wings  twitching  underneath  their  harness.  ❝   i’m  not  trying  to  incite  violence,  like  you  do.  maybe  i’ll  tag  along  to  keep  you  out  of  trouble.   ❞  the  last  of  his  words  carry  the  hints  of  a  teasing  tone,  despite  the  barbs  of  the  first  statement.  

❝   dick  pointed  the  way.  a  pair  of  eagle  eyes  also  help.   ❞  said  gaze  gravitates  towards  the  area  which  once  bled,  narrowing  wordlessly  for  a  moment.  ❝   have  you  ever  thought  of  quitting  for  good?  instead  of  fighting  in  alleyways,  you  could  be  relaxing  on  a  beach  somewhere.   ❞  the  healing  abilities  blessed  by  his  mutation  only  did  so  much  —  at  times,  the  fragility  of  humans,  their  oppressive  kind,  evoked  a  sick  form  of  pity.  in  this  case,  a  latent  fear  which  slipped  the  tongue.

          eyes  flutter  open  and  shut  several  times,  repeating  the  motion  as  his  gaze  dares  not  dip  towards  the  utter  chaos  at  his  fingertips.  ❝   i...  i  guess  dessert  can  be  salty,  right?  a  caramel  sauce  could  fix  this  right  up.   ❞  the  words  tumble  out  without  resonance,  as  he  has  not  even  the  slightest  idea  how  to  create  such  a  sauce.

although i write warren as a young adult, around 25 or so, i consider him as among the same generation as some of the older heroes of the universe. he was an original member of the first x-men and he graduated before starting up on his own. perhaps as part my main verse which is canon-divergent, he’ll be a teacher at the school, or at least a funding partner.
