End of April Update

after the creation of this blog at the beginning of April, everything started happening

My dog, Zelda, passed away on the 14th which was really rough, but we're moving forward best we can

I got sick on the 22nd through to the end of April because I couldn't afford to take a break, and had to take most of my finals while high on DayQuil, so that was rough.

On the upside though, writing is going alright! (Also playlists)

I got through the first draft of the Prologue, and am now working through some coding hiccups before I can move forward because Twine exists to destroy my will to live

started writing part of the draft of chapter 1, it's gonna be a long one, with a lot of character interactions as well as investigating.

Finished the detailed outlines for chapters 1-5, the story is growing beyond my control like kudzu. (I do have an outline for the whole story but there are a lot of things that need to happen)

This isn’t abandoned right??? I was really excited 😢

I’m sorry for the lack of activity on the blog but rest assured that this game hasn’t been abandoned! I’m still working on it and have actually made some pretty decent progress in the last few days.

While I don’t want to force my personal life onto all of you, I have to admit that April’s been a pretty rough month for me. I found out that my cat has kidney disease (luckily it was found very early on) so that ended up being my main priority. I also got pretty ill around a week ago and am just starting to feel a bit better.

I’ll work on being more active on this blog throughout May! I’m going to be dropping a progress update pretty soon so hopefully that will help ease any worries.

The Wayhaven Chronicles - Update 26/April/2024

Lots happening this week!

The edits and bug testing came back, so I’ll be starting on that! I know the demo is later than I’d hoped due to—still ongoing and super annoying!—internet issues, but at least the editing process is going as smoothly as I was hoping so no one is getting too overwhelmed!

Once those edits go in, I’ll send them out to my  next readers and sensitivity readers, then it’ll be ready to go!

And speaking of the demo, I thought you guys might like to see the logo for Book Four!

Super awesome, right? :D Really had a very clear idea of what Book Four’s logo was going to be, and Nai took it on board and smashed it as always!

And I was also smashing through chapter two this week! I am well ahead of myself on schedule, which is always a good feeling, lol! And because I was so ahead, I decided to add in an extra bigger choice set to add some variation to this somewhat linear chapter. It might be setting up the story, but that doesn’t mean the MC can’t have different ways to deal with how that happens!

So yeah, it’s been a busy week of some exciting developments, hehe! :D

Next week, I’ll be getting those edits in, sending off the demo section for final read overs, and then getting back to Chapter Two. It will also be social media days somewhere in between that, where I hope the internet will actually play ball long enough I can get asks done, as well as all the fun things coming up on Patreon! ;D

THE CAREFREE ROMANCE "Is it sin to love?"

Arthur/Aria, a people-pleaser mixed with a warm heart, is the perfect actor for the counterpart lead in a movie that ends in the happiest way of all. Many would categorize them as a golden retriever, always filled with energy and a happy aura. They walked through those stage doors, immediately greeting everybody with respect and smiles on their face.

THE TRAGIC ROMANCE "For the wounded and the lost."

Corin/Carrie, a cold demeanor mixed with a frozen heart, is the perfect actor for the counterpart lead in a movie that ends in heartbreak. You swore they were throwing daggers at you through the whole reading of the script. The directors say they can feel a connection brewing beneath their harsh exterior, but you can't seem to spot it.

THE THRILLER ROMANCE "The vanity of existence."

Kenley/Kaylee, a mixture of both cold and warm, you don't actually know if they'd be the perfect actor at all. They're all over the place, left and right, backward and forwards, you can't ever seem to spot them in one place for more than five minutes. The directors are starting to wonder if you two will even be able to progress through these scenes with their attention being constantly stolen, but hey, who knows, it might work!

Assuming this group had their own mystery machine was cam the one who got to keep it when the group broke up?

They did have an SUV (it was cheaper than getting a van) and the deed was always in Cam's name, but even if it wasn't there was never a question of who would probably take the car in the end. That car was Cam’s baby and they would damned to part with it.

What would the Ro's do if the Mc just ran and leapt at them? Who's catching them and who's letting them eat dirt? (friend and dating stage)

R: Will try gamely to catch MC and probably end up on the ground for their efforts. Where they are in their relationship will just determine how annoyed they are.

Z: Could catch MC. Probably won't if they're just friends. Probably will if they're dating.

Kestrel: Would humor an MC they were just friends with and think they're being endearingly obnoxious. Would take full advantage of catching an MC they're dating and probably not put them down again

Hello! Will mc remember Alistair and Helena in the game? Maybe old memories too? Will mc be able to talk to Caspian about Alistair? Is mc older than Caspian then? I'm sorry for all the questions, I really want to know more about Ollie and Alistair&Helena

Hi! Don’t worry, I don’t mind the questions at all! I’m happy that you want to know more about the characters.

1.) Yes, MC will talk/reminisce about Helena and Alistair! They’ll be mentioned as early as the prologue!

2.) Yes, there will be some memory/flashback sequences! Alistair will appear more in them simply on account of him being closer to them MC but Helena will be in quite a few as well!

3.) MC will be able to talk to Caspian about Alistair. It’ll be a pretty big part of their interactions - especially if you’re on his route.

4.) No, MC and Caspian are around the same age with only a few months difference between them at most. Same for the two of them and Alistair. Him and Caspian have different mothers so there isn’t a huge gap between their birthdays. Sorry for the confusion.

If it hasn't been asked before, how does the ROs feel about MCs condition? And the ones that don't know about it initially, will they treat mc differently when they find out? I'm aware this might probably be spoilers but couldn't help but ask considering the previous ask👀

Right off the bat I’ll say that any character (not just the ROs) who find out about MC’s condition during the course of the game will start to treat them differently. I won’t go into the exact details because spoilers but I will tell you how they feel about the condition in general.

Astoria (like all of them) has pretty complicated feelings towards people with Interius. She doesn’t hate them or feel disgusted by them and is actually pretty involved in the activism surrounding their rights!

But…

She can just be a bit…dismissive. She unintentionally speaks for them instead of supporting their voices and has a bit of a toxic positivity mindset - very “things will get better!” instead of acknowledging how bad things have been. She’ll get better about it as time goes on but she’ll definitely need to improve her methods a bit - even if her intentions are good.

I’ll just say it flat out - Caspian handles it the best. He has had nearly two decades of “experience” on how to handle supporting MC and other people who suffer from Interius.

He’s obviously very supportive of people with the condition and is (shockingly) pretty involved in activist circles surrounding the topic - but when it comes to how he handles/talks about the condition itself on a more personal level, he tends to take notes from MC.

Like if they’re joking about it, then he might joke about it or if they’re silent on the matter, he won’t bring it up, and I imagine you get the point. Overall, he tends to let people define how they feel about the condition and works from there.

Solaine handles it the worst. There’s really no way around it. A big part of their story and route is going to be them getting over their discrimination towards people with MC’s condition.

That being said, their hatred towards people with Interius comes less from a place of genuine disgust and more from a place insecurity. Like, Solaine knows that they are heavily disliked, but they also know that the majority of Magus dislike people with Interius more so their mindset towards them has become “I’m terrible but not as terrible as them…” in a sense.

That being said, there is some level of genuine disgust there. I won’t try to hide that. As intelligent as Solaine is, they’re not completely immune to the opinions of the people around them or making decisions based on feeling instead of fact.

So yeah. They’re a bigoted asshole but they’ll get over it.

Maeve handles it…decently? She doesn’t exactly hate people with Interius but she is a bit uncomfortable around them at first because of the stuff she’s heard about people with the condition.

She doesn’t necessarily see people with Interius as being bad or dangerous (which doesn’t seem like much but is a huge step forward compared to most Magus) but she understands the dangers of the condition itself which leaves her a bit torn at first. Once she gets a better understanding of everything though, she is incredibly accepting!

Jasper…doesn’t really acknowledge it? I think that initially he just doesn’t know how he’s supposed to handle it. He doesn’t hate/look down on people with Interius but is aware that other people do so he kind of just keeps quiet so that he doesn’t step on any toes.

It isn’t the best way to handle it - and he knows it’s wrong not to stick up for what’s right - but he just finds it difficult to speak up against it considering how prevalent the discrimination is. It’s definitely something he will be working on throughout the story though - and once he gets past his initial fears, he’d also be pretty involved in activist circles.
