Well here we have it folks a 2000 word essay ! (with maybe slightly more words) 6 freshly written pages in Chicago style with single spaced Garamond font and images throughout. This essay covers A LOT. From Science Fiction to Anthropocene to Conceptual Architecture and Feral Architecture there really is a lot going on! Cute little colour coded photo at the end gives a bit of the roadmap for how the essay is structured and I have annotated a bit right on the essay itself to making posting an essay on tumblr look just that much cooler but also to help you figure what the heck is going on along the way. As much as I could I tried to use photos and screenshots from my previous work in the course as inspiration for my writing so I incorporated those on the first and last page as well as in the essay to try to explain how I came to the conclusions I did throughout the course. I found some super awesome sources in the MacOdrum Library online resources as you can see in my Bibliography, which definitely helped me to better articulate my thoughts. I very much enjoy finding lots of quotes for essays because often times other people have already said what you are trying to say but just more elegantly. There was a lot of content to cover in this essay so it led me to find creative ways to connect everything to make it sound like an essay instead of 7 separate writing pieces. Lol. Overall a very fun essay to write with some very interesting points to think about. Hope you all enjoy! Safe stay and stay healthy! (Also Yes I did take my last name out of every page, I am not looking for tumblr fans)
That is all for ARCN 2105 !! All work has been submitted and we are feel for the summer! Alicia Signing off!

Well hello from Victoria BC! This is probably the last I will see of my model for now...Too bad it never gets to come to its completion, maybe one day.
I managed to download Rhino on my laptop and retrieve my Task 8 file so I finished it up to the best I knew how and added some materiality to better show off how I imagine it to be. Unfortunately, the free V-ray trial I downloaded would let me add materials but would not actually Render for me it instead would show me a black screen, so all of these renders are just the basic Rhino “Rendered” view.
Now onto explaining my model as if there was not a worldwide virus pandemic stopping me from actually finishing it!
So first off, which model type I would have chosen (representational/scale model,  sectional model, detail model) and why? It was back at the first pin-up that I decided I wanted to use a sectional model. Throughout discussions in my group of three, we collectively decided that would be the best way to showcase our models due to the fact that we intended to stack all three models on top of one another to represent the change from submerged to amphibious to land fairing. My model would have landed right in the center because it is the amphibious aquatic life research lab half in and half out of the water. The sectional model would have been able to neatly show how my model interacts with the water. I intended for the model to resemble the sectional perspective image pictured above.
Now to describe what kinds of components I would have digitally fabricated,   which fabrication tools I was going to use, and why? So my plan was to first use the CNC milling machine to fabricate the land topography of my topographic model. That being the hill and the islands in my topography that were surrounded by water. For the water component, I was planning to use a blue epoxy resin in a wood formwork to create a cool water effect. I thought it would look super cool to pour the resin along the path of the waterfall to create a lifelike effect. For the actual capsule itself and the ruin in behind it, I was planning to 3D print a section of each of them by creating a clipping plane in Rhino and determining a center cut through both the capsule and the ruin. I wanted to use the 3D printer because I know it could pick up on the small details and nicely fabricate the curved edges of my capsule. To attach the capsule to the ruin I planned to hand model a suspension system out of string or some kind of wire to would attach to the ruin and the top of the capsule. This would leave my capsule suspended and floating half in air and half in the water
And lastly, I will talk about what digital models and/or drawings I would have had to create or were going to create in order to successfully fabricate my model. First off I would have had to create a CNC file on Rhino that I would use to fabricate my topography. That file would have been sized down to the 20x20x20cm size, on a rectangle the size of the CNC machine bed and would have needed to have no naked edges. I would have removed all the water components from the file because I planned to create those by hand. Once that was done I would have needed a separate file for 3D printing my capsule and ruins. The two pieces would be separate and like the CNC file, they also would have needed to have no naked edges. With both of those finished and sent to their respective fabrication machines, I would have then needed to create drawings from Rhino using the Make2D tool. I think the most important of those drawings would be the section because it will help to explain the model more clearly. But of course, I would have also included a plan, elevation, and perspective to try to explain the very cramped space inside of the 24 square meter research lab I created.
I think that's all for now! I hope everyone is staying home, staying safe and staying healthy! Thanks for an awesome semester!

13/3/20 Second Pin Up⭐️ Added a little context to my section perspective view from Rhino to show the human scale of the space and how it is being interacted with by my field agent. On the left is the bed area with additional storage underneath and on the right is a wall of fish tanks featuring various aquatic plant and animal life for research!
Going to look now at how I can incorporate a source of energy in the capsule space or attached to the exterior of the capsule to make sure it fits the requirement of being energy self sufficient. My thoughts are for a turbine of some sort using either air or water to produce energy that is then utilized to power the filter in the different tanks.

Task 8 Drawings from Illustrator! Plan, Section, Axo and Site Plan. I was not sure how to do the site plan because my topography is quite bare immediately surrounding the ruin and outpost so I thought it would be better to include an overall site plan of where my outpost is situated within my topography and then a roof plan of the relationship between my ruin and my outpost.

Outpost is coming together! Kept pretty much with the initial design just added detail and made it more realistic. Added minimal interior so far there is only the ladder to enter into the space, a bed for my field agent to sleep and a large shelving unit where she will store tanks of research specimens. Next step is making it 2D to get some drawings out of it!

What I’m thinking for the interior of my capsule...obviously a little smaller but same idea! Going to have a resemblance to a submarine because I am thinking about making it an amphibious structure half in and half out of the water.

06/03/2020 First Pin Up! 🌱Made a group of 3 and started working on our group narrative! We decided we would connect all of our stories with a relationship to water and how the water contributed to the growth of vegetation in our lands. Our field agents will be working on research of the water, the aquatic plant-life and how the water can be utilized to bring human life back to the landscape. For the models we are leaning towards a section model utilizing the vertical stacking of our 3 topographies from the underwater to the amphibious and then to the land based outpost. We are already starting to think about how we will build the physical model using CNC for the topography, 3D printing for the ruins/outpost and an epoxy resin for the water that connects all three of the models. Excited to see where it goes from here!

What went into my renders in Photoshop??? All of these from V-ray! I found it very useful to have all of these different render outputs to be able to select and manipulate different parts in Photoshop to create my final renders!

Scale was a bit off the first time around but the TA’s helped me out a bit and now my drawings are looking a little better! Split them up into two 11x17 pages so they fit better on the page and scaled one of the buildings up because it looked tiny before. The red parts didn’t change they are still there to show where I “ruined” the building in Rhino post-drawing in Autocad. Now my scale is a bit large but I wanted the buildings to be quite monumental in the landscape.

Getting better that this layer management thing! Finally! Much more organised this time around so I was able to have both my 25 year image and my 100 year image in the same Photoshop file which led to the fun little video of 25 to 100 years progression!
