Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
The week long Ratnagiri Settlement study focused on studying a village through various lenses. My group was asked the map the whole village and draw the plan of it. It consisted of mapping the lanes, the houses, small patches present, the different kind of trees in the village, the backyards and even the small pile of wood present in the lane. Through this me and my group members learnt to study a place and map it out in the larger scale.

Electives / Sem 03
Disobedient Subjects by Aastha D.
The 5 day long workshop revolved around some ideas which were a discomfort to the society because of some inappropriate roots. We brainstormed many thoughts and counter questioned them. For this we saw some prejudicial movies which made us contemplate and then worked on the Japanese idea of 'Kintsugi'. Later we also developed our own texts which touched the idea of Disobedience.
The text which I wrote was 'Indian Households' which can be read in the collective work below:
We also made a collective mind map which revolves around ideas of every student and how one relates to another:

The 4 week long module focused on having city walks and understanding the surroundings. The area we worked on was Ghatkopar which is a mix of slums, high rise of Hiranandani and the Powai lake a bit ahead. Understanding the place, we then curated a crime story and characters which can revolve around in the studied space. The picture above supports the story our group formed.

Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
This module began with the discussion of short stories of Hamzanama. Each of us were divided into groups and were assigned to draw sketches depicting the short stories assigned. These sketches were later updated to making a space. Our iteration described the hide and seek between two lovers. This hide and seek was shown through placements of kites in which one can hide himself.

Structures and Buildings / Sem 02
Over a period of time there has been immense development in construction techniques. The structural systems have come a long way from mud-brick combinations to RCC frameworks. The earlier builtforms were erected only in order to shelter from sun, wind and rain but now has needs of greater heights, longer spans and intricate works. These structures are also able to counter various loads, pressures and forces. The timeline has also seen an upgrade in material and structural systems. Different types of elements need different types of frameworks satisfying given conditions of loads and forces.
This module helped us in learning:
1. timeline of upgradation of builtforms, usage of materials and properties of material.
2. basic structural elements and loads it undergoes.
3. climatic factors imposing pressures on builtforms.
4. sizing of structural elements.
5. various types of structural systems.
6. relationship between span and structural systems.
7. forces present in structural systems.
8. stress-strain, Young's Modulus, bending moment, elastic limit.
9. various load conditions affecting in various types of foundations.

Patterns and Forces / Sem 01
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
We see object just as a simple structure. But what we ignore to see is the structure it takes, the movements it undergoes, the components it's made up of, the forces it feels and so much unseen. And that's what we captured in this module. Seeing an object through different way and exploring it through all dimensions possible.

Space & Experience / Sem 01
Tumblr media
So what's Home basically for you? It might be walls and some furniture and some people living in it for you. But I see it through a different perspective. For me it's something that does not let you feel alone. You design the space according to you. You feel it: the comfort, the love, the sacredness and so much more.
