Historical Fiction recommendations for people who hate white women in bodice doing fuck all, Greek mythologies, the Tudors and well, stories about Europeans in general...
Sea of Poppies by Amitav Ghosh
If you want to see a group of very different people going through IT, but you can't stand the term 'found family' because it’s cringe or you don't believe in such concept, this is the book for you. You will learn about indentured slavery of South Asians, the beginnings of the First Opium War and the very real, very large human cost of maintaining the 19th-century colonial highway (the Indian Ocean). It's the first book in a completed trilogy, but honestly, I think it works just fine as a standalone since I haven’t read the latter two myself lmfao
Silence by Shusaku Endo
This is about bad things that happened to a group of wayward Christian missionaries who landed in Japan. Somehow you will end up feeling sorry for the last man standing. Believe me. This has the distinction of being the most catholic novel I ever read lol. But it is still good. Pleaaase read it and let me know what you think.
The Stone Face by William Gardner Smith
Once, Black visitors of post-war Paris were treated like any other white men visiting the city, making it a desirable destination for those who can afford it to escape Jim Crow and American racism, as people like James Baldwin noted. Our protagonist is one such individual, but not long upon arriving in the city, he notices that Algerians are treated just like Black people in the U.S. Eventually, he realizes that he must make a pivotal decision. This is a novelization of the author's own experiences and observations.
I guess it's not exactly historical fiction, but more of a realistic fiction. However, I still think it's appropriate to include in my recommendation.

also i learnt this semester that in 1960 only 6% (!!!!) of german students/youths made their abitur so i would like every person who's parents or grandparents or even great-grandparents!! have abitur or went to university even to do a little reality check and understand that they're from a very privileged and not normal family because i hate the way people from academic backgrounds assume everyone around them has an academic family background too, because let me tell you that is just very unlikely!!!!
#revealing too much here but it baffles me that people have parents with abitur.#just so far removed from my social circle growing up#also ive been learning more abt my grandma's early life and grandparents with abitur.... genuinely unfathomable to me lmao#but also our east germany grind maybe

It will get cold again eventually. The summer will not last forever. I’m not doomed to live in this unbearable heat for all eternity. <- said while gripping the countertop so hard that the tile is starting to crack

It seems like the older I get, the more irrationally angry casual censorship makes me. And it isn't just the "unalive" "grape" alleged filter-dodging vernacular, but the way normal words will be peppered with asterisks, or screenshots will have words like "gay" "hell" "fuck" etc either partially or entirely blurred. Who is this helping? What is the purpose of it, except to reinforce shame and elevate a flimsy perception of purity and safety, however those things manifest. It's so tiresome and I'm sick of it.
