For context, I decided that these three photo manipulations situated in the context of a book to help to visualise the difficulties that international students will encounter, because most of the international students will rent an apartment to live alone or share an apartment with friends during their university years, which is faced with being away from the care of a parent or host family, so they need to learn to live alone, and cooking is one of the biggest challenges. I am one of the international students, and these are my personal experiences. In high school, my mother came to New Zealand to take care of me. After I entered university, she left New Zealand and went back to her hometown. I thought cooking would be easy, so I didn't learn before she left, and then came the scenes in these three works of mine.

Feedback From Teacher:

1. In the third photo, you should have less shadows on the hand because there are not so many shadows when the hand just entered the black hole. And there are highlights in some places on the instant noodle, and the highlights should be removed, because there should be no highlights in these places.

2. The context should be mentioned in the statement, and should have a reference in the statement.

I found that the shadow should be on the dark side of the object, and I put the shadow on the light side of the object in my works.

I made another version of work 3. I adjusted the edge of the instant noodles to be more rounded. I plan to choose one of these two versions.

Choosing a Background

I took three photos, the chopping board, the placemat, and the wall.

I decided to choose a chopping board as the background, because the chopping board is the closest to cooking, and the texture is obvious, which will increase the texture of the overall work.

Maybe try changing the background to a photo instead of an illustration, it will look more like a photo manipulation.

Photo Manipulation 2 (Improvement 2)

Feedback from the teacher: I thought it was a little fake and weird to have my hands in the fridge, so the teacher suggested that I can use a low flow black brush tool on my hands to add shadows little by little to make it look more realistic. And don't add text to these three photo manipulations, because it's totally unnecessary.

New Improvement: I made improvements to my photo manipulation based on the feedback.
